The Cribs: Martell
'Martell' sets it's stall out in the opening couplet, as Ryan Jarman asks inquisitively "How hard can it be? to get a slap on the back from a room full of morons..." like a sarcastic chipmunk after a formaldehyde overdose, before retorting "...so you hate my sunglasses? Well your precious Leeds is dead, just so long as you know." Confrontational then, but in the most caustic rather than violent sense, like a modern day Wonder Stuff, who of course were the second coming of Slade. And there you have it, rock's newest family tree is born - from Noddy Holder and Dave Hill to the Jarman brothers in three easy steps.
In an ideal world 'Martell' would be number one for every season - particularly the football one - all year round. Altogether now, "Someone's got their eye on you now don't you know...WOAH-OH-OH-OH..."

The Cribs - Martell
I will look back on 2005 and remember it as the year I lost pretension and learned to love hooks.
The Cribs, Maximo Park and rediscovering stuff by the likes of The Walkmen and The Futureheads.
Good times, good times.-
Re: The Cribs - Martell
Exactly. There's no shame in loving the hooky ones.
'I'll Be Ok' anyone? -
The Cribs - Martell
It says:
'How hard can it be...'
I think the NME review of this was good. I think the song's alright, but it seems a little too effortless to me.
Also, the 'La la la la, can you hear me I don't think so...' seems a bit of a lazy lyric. -
The Cribs - Martell
The cribs and wakefield trinity in the same post, ah good times are here!
Can wait to see these guys at leeds festival this weekend, should be a good gig, last year was fantastic.-
Re: The Cribs - Martell
Saw them at the academy 2 in brum last week, and they were top-notch...theyve got a great energy about their live shows (saw them supporting the chiefs aswell), plus they didnt find it neccessary to indulge the prat who kept shouting 'get your bum out' and 'show us what you piss with'...which was good.

Re: The Cribs - Martell
Is it just me who finds the artwork slightly worrying?

The Cribs - Martell
Maybe it's lazy and has been scrambled together in a few minutes but by god it is catchy. I like it. -

when are they going to release 'the wrong way to be'?its soo much better. i dont like martell. the b-sides are pretty good again. i nearly cant listen to "la la la la can you hear me?" though. i saw them in dublin last week and they were good, the crowd was pretty thin though.-
Re: The Cribs - Martell
Pretty thin?
That's those skinny vegetarian indie kids for you.

The Cribs - Martell
I think he meant worrying in a different, altogether more sleazy fashion (about the artwork). -
Yeah
Yeah. Another good song. Not the best, but not the worst either.
