Here’s how it started: I approached
‘Club Foot’ with a totally open mind. Whatever was said before about
Kasabian was ignored; whatever was posted on these boards was scratched from the record. For 20 seconds I was a purely blank canvas, awaiting the moment when a truly excellent opening - and it is an excellent opening - gave way to something exquisite, something that truly deserved the tabloid hyperbole and weekly purple prose that’s come the way of these Midlanders since day one.
Here’s what happened next: give Kasabian a blank canvas and they’ll fill it with the most immediately aesthetically satisfying but utterly inspirationally vacant piece of tat around. ‘Club Foot’ is in your face all right, but packs all the punch of a freshly discarded wank rag - the pleasure’s over in seconds, but the stench remains until the offending item is binned.
Here’s how it ended: a minute in, the sticky mess is ejected. Really, who gets off on this insufferable toss?
Kasabian - Club Foot
Kasabian - Club Foot
Kasabian - Club Foot
That's genius.
Although I do like this song.
Sorry about that.
I can't get enough of insufferable toss.
Kasabian - Club Foot
Kasabian - Club Foot
Kasabian - Club Foot
they have some truly shite lyrics too.
"I break bones stealing mobile phones"
shit! they must be pretty hard. Looks like all that swaggering (also known as 'ian-browning') out of the smoke wasn't just a front.

Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
I wasn't talking about 're'-releases, just releases. The Manics are past it, hence, like Suede, their last LP only had a couple of singles.
Kasabian are popular. Get over it.
They re-release a bunch of singles and each time they chart. Get over it.
People like them, therefore they are relevent and a damn site more fun to watch than a lot of other crap like The Subways, Others, etc.
Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
The Manics start a SELL OUT tour next week. Kasabian's tour has not yet sold out in many of the places they are playing. Get over it.
The Manics built up a following through playing live and playing the media without the aid of a large marketing budget, unlike Kasabian. Get over it.
When the Manics were at their commercial peak "last century" sales of about 2500 did not guarantee a Top 20 placing, unlike now. Get over it.
Thankyou. Goodbye.
Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
I mean, if they said that it was all fun, and they were doing what they do to be funnily ironic, I may have a shred more respect for them.
But really - they clearly take themselves way too seriously, a byproduct no doubt of 'celebrities' REPEATEDLY going on about their 'punk' attitood. Fucking Alan McGee, that Patsy Kensit... I mean, SHUT UP! Punk? Dangerous? WHAT THE FUCK?
This music is as safe and as boring as tea time at an old folks home, where the only excitment comes when Carol starts putting up the letters in the hope that she might accidentally spell 'boobs'.
Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
Compare them all you like in that respect.
Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
No one was comparing the Manics to Kasabian other than in the way that Sony/BMG market their singles and in regard to the amount of general exposure and airplay they get in comparison.
Kasabian's music is good at what it does, same as Isis' is good at what it does, same as M83 is good at what it does. If you don't like screaming you ain't gonna like Slayer and if you don't like baggy synth stuff, you ain't gonna like Kasabian. I wouldn't bet against the tent at Reading being pretty full when they come on this year.
Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
Reading between the lines is exactly what I'm doing, instead of using the excuse that on the surface just because they've had three top 20 singles and "can fill a tent" (your words not mine) does not a good band maketh.
Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
What makes a good band is some interest, some tunes, some attitude and a cracking live show.
What DEMONSTRATES a POPULAR band is a string of hit singles and high profile live shows.
This is boring me now.
Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
All together? Your on your own there matey...
"What makes a good band is some interest,"
Interest from whom? Marketing men with an expansive budget perhaps...
"some tunes,"
Depends whose tunes we're talking about here matey.
I've heard Kasabian do Oasis, Primal Scream and the Happy Mondays.
However I'm yet to hear Kasabian actually do Kasabian.
"some attitude"
What, as in punctuating every second word in every sentence with the word "fook" and calling people faggots?
"and a cracking live show."
I've seen 'em three times mister, in both big and small venues headlining and supporting and they haven't exactly made me want to go out and form a band or even tape one of their songs off MTV for that matter.
"What DEMONSTRATES a POPULAR band is a string of hit singles and high profile live shows."
Using that argument then, why aren't you praising the achievements of Westlife, Ill Divo and G4?
"This is boring me now."
Ho-hum.
Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
And so on.
Why are you arguing over Kasabian?
The worst band to make it big in this scumhole country of ours since Finlay Quaye.
Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
Clearly you don't like Kasabian, but everything is subjective and I'm certainly not the only journo in the UK to have given them a good review. LSF and ID are both great tracks. If they were such a shit band why would they be headlining the second stage at Reading?
And yes, what demonstrates a POPULAR (read that 'popular') band IS a string of hits and big shows. So yes, Westlifte ARE a P-O-P-U-L-A-R band too - because they've had lots of hits and lots of big shows. Same for Dido, Coldplay, Green Day, Oasis and whoever else.
Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
But.
For some strange reason people do like them.
Hmmm.

Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
You always knew, eh?
Wow. You've known me a long while now too, right?
Again, heh.

Just turned on the radio. You can guess what was on, can't you?
Yup, fookin' 'Club Foot'.

Did this chart particularly high?

Re: Kasabian - Club Foot
I so enjoyed our witty banter.
Kasabian - Club Foot
they are bastards
kasabian are quite interesting. maybe they read this fascinating little list of witticisms and decided they would put off releasing any new material for zonks. beneficial herbs is the only other song of theirs i've heard since the album
..................................
where is all the new stuff
Model rockers,
aren't they? better at looking good than sounding good. at first thought the guitars sounded interesting but after a few songs you'll realize they are all samey and limited. the rhythm section is not bad, but not particuarly good either. and a song called LSF? posers. by the way not sure about the 'metapher' the reviewer used...bit too yucky...
...
doesn't make me excited.
