After the overground explosions in the sky and a newfound hope in the states, where can post-rock possibly go?
New Zealand you say? Usually I'd run you out of town, but Jakob - a three-piece signed to the label owned by those cheeky garage upstarts The Datsuns - are actually pretty decent. The first effort on this two-tracker, 'Sephamore', is a strong, instrumental number in the vein of Mono and Oceansize. It's not as epic, granted, but if you're after small but perfectly formed examples of post-rock, this is spot on. B-side 'To Be Locked Up' lacks the dynamics of the title track, but rumbles along slowly and pleasantly enough. Well, I say pleasant: it's clearly the soundtrack to drowning yourself in cement. A recommended introduction.

Semaphore is an awesome track. It's parent album Cale:Drew is wonderful. All you fans of MBV, Mogwai, Explosions, Mono, etc should check it out. Try High Dependency Unit (HDU) for size as well. Some of you may remember them from ATP when Shellac curated in 2002.
