One of the week’s two big re-releases – alongside I Was A Cub Scout’s ‘Pink Squares’Blood Red Shoes‘You Bring Me Down’ is typically bombastic, but completely in keeping with the Brighton duo’s repertoire to date – breathlessly running to its end with scant regard for noticeable development or arresting alterations from the song’s past issuing, via DiS in 2006.

It is a better recording, though – scrappy, but full-blooded; scratchy, but the sort that goes for the eyes rather than the back of your sofa. As an alert to an already leaked debut album it’s semi-effective – immediate but lacking lingering resonance – but to anyone well into BRS’s material it feels like an opportunity lost. Something really new might’ve been a more appealing purchase.

Newcomers out there, though: step on here for a brief but blistering ride.

It's not a better recording

because of the vocal effect which makes Laura-Mary sound like she's being recorded in a shower cubicle.

I like it.

Yes.

i like the song

but i agree it isn't a better recording. i don't get why the riff in the verses is so subdued to the left speaker. it's a good riff, so why diminish it like it's nothing special. anyway, great song - okay recording.

re-record

that was my idea to pan it left, the room mics on the amp are panned right....when you see us live as you look at the stage laura's guitar is on the left and i wanted to create some sense of space with this re-record. then when the chorus comes in the sound fills up in the right with an extra guitar part.

i do think its a better recording tho, the guitar sounds way more like we do live, way heavier. and boy is it better playing, i cant listen to the old one my drumming is so off!
