The Golden Virgins call it a day
Posted:
Sunderland-based indie rockers The Golden Virgins have decided to split up, citing "lethargy, alcoholism and a deep-seated hatred of the music industry" as reasons for the disbandment.
The band released their debut album Songs Of Praise to critical acclaim back in 2003, and attracted radio play from Radio 1 and kudos from the British indie scene.
I for one will recommend that you track down Songs Of Praise - it's a lost classic.
The Golden Virgins will play a farewell show at Independent in Sunderland on Friday 27th October. Tickets are a reasonably-priced £4.

shame
that really is an ace album.

A shame
They really were the forgotten band of the north-east, and undeservedly so. I shall be there for the farewell gig.

Shame
And its true they were the forgotten band of the NE music 'scene', unfourunately reduced merely to being that lot that go 'click click' on Thursdays in Diva.
Still, nice to see DiS has realised where Independent is.

what a terrible loss...
...who were the golden virgins?

I have the album
unfortunately i didnt enjoy it as much as I hoped. I am a camera and light in her window were great pop songs, but the album didnt match their fantastic live set at leeds fest in 2004.
Still, its a shame they decided to split.

Arse

Class band
Real shame they're splitting but haven't been up to too much recently. If I'm about, which I unfortunately think I'm not I'll be at the last show.
