Reading and Leeds: great, apparently...
Posted:
I was sat on my arse in London, but whatever...
The folks behind the bigger-than-ever Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds have said that this year's event was great. Which is kind of expected, even if it'd been rubbish, really. No?
Thousands upon thosands of music fans attended the twin-site event, headlined by Muse (pictured), Franz Ferdinand and Pearl Jam. Mean Fiddler's Melvin Benn said:
"What a weekend. Two cities, Reading and Leeds, 214 different bands and performers playing in each city to a massive 200,000 people. Great weather, great music and great fans. To say I am happy would not even be scratching the surface. I am ecstatic, as were the bands and the fans."
Apart from those that had their stuff nicked, obviously.

After Muse
My tent collapsed.
-
Crime was down
Don't think it can really be completely blamed on the organisers. You bring stuff, it might get nicked. Don't bring anything worth money, keep wallet near you in your tent, you'll be alright.
I suppose we should probably go on at them to get a proper fence and have tighter rules on letting people into the camping area, but then people who go and just camp, or camp with a day ticket would get pissed off...
-
But it was great...
really!
-
!
If it's yr job to take photos, you're going to need bring good photo taking equipment, I doubt you'll get many great shots on a disposable camera...
-
really?
friday = worst day of Reading ever.
-
what can be blamed to the organisers
was the ridiculous 'attempt' at crowd control on the white camp side of the ferry.
No queue, no barriers, minimum security with no way of getting extra help in. just a huge lump of people fighting forward.
6 hour wait, Started off halfway down the queue, ended up at the back because people were pushing in at the sides more and more.
I won't be going next year unless i know they fixed it.
-
....
I had a conversation with security that went like this.
"i think you need to radio more people in this is just ridiculous"
"can't, anyway i don't have a radio"
"what if there's a riot?"
"i dunno"
-
'white camp side of the ferry'
as in to get the ferry across?
-
was it my imagination
or was it really really overcrowded near constantly? not that i minded so much when so many people turned up to watch Metric but it did take forever to get from stage to stage, i remember when you could skip between stages in minutes.
-
I am ILL now
it was worth it.
-
thats cos
they shoved 20,000 extra people in and only moved the edges of the arena about 2 metres further out. bastards.
-
I agree
in leeds it was a lot more crowded in the arena. In took a long time to meet up with someone and after muse on sunday it took forever to get out of the arena which wasnt that great in the rain. Apart from that it was a great weekend and there were no riots on the site, though i cant help thinking this was only down to the rain...
-
the over crowding
was unbelievable, it took me an hour to draw money from the bank, luckily this meant i missed Mastodon,so no harm done.
The event overall was alrite and the friday was passable. Pearl Jam stole the show, but i had to sacrifice youthmovies to see them
-
this was possibly the most annoying
thing.
the arena was exactly the same size as in the past, but with more people. the difference was very noticeable.
-
i spent all festival moaning
i thought it was RUBBISH AS
-
oops
^ that was me ^
-
-
Maybe
They should have 3 sites, certainly solve the overcrowding, but would inevitably piss off locals
-
-
perhaps...
cannabis should be made compulsory on-site in order to avoid violence.
-
yep
if you have 20,000 extra people in there.. surely.. more toilets, anyone?
this year = ridiculous
-
you
cant blame security, you can blame the company behind the security. The security is basically people like you and me (students lay abouts etc.) who just want a free ticket, minimal hassle and a little exta cash. there's no training involved, its literally - 'so you man this area 7, you man this area till 7 - right off you go good luck and come back here tomorow to get your cash.'
-
fuck that
friday = worst day EVER ever.
-
p!atd!
franz!
i saw connie huq swear!-
i didnt poo all weekend
when i got home i weighed myself.
half an hour later i was 4lbs lighter.-
...
"the over crowding was unbelievable, it took me an hour to draw money from the bank"
That's like, virgin festival-goers mistake number one.
THERE'S A TOWN 10 MINUTES AWAY
-
unless you went there
and weren't talking about the one's they put up at the site
-
they have cash machines on site now?
man, it's been a long time since i went to reading...
-
-
-
i had some fun, but...
why did Mean fiddler decide to rid the place of herbal highs and poppers? my mates dragged me all the way back into town, during the Dirty pretty things (oh darn) just to get them. personally i don't see any point in them in the first place but it surely just encouraged more people to hunt down (or wait) for the more fun drugs, hang on i don't know what my point is...
200,000 in each city!? where does this exageration come from, the only time it seemed any busier than normal was for a few acts in the radio one tent. I do miss the old boys who used to spend all weekend camped out on Y2 listening to punk in their big ol army surplus tent, where did they go?
-
oooooohhhh
oh god i loved connie huq before but to know that she talks dirty as well..
-
I thought
that there were plenty of stalls selling legal highs this year, well at leeds anyway, though there were no stalls in the arena, but plenty in the campsite.
-
it was easy to find them,
but why remove them from the stalls?
-
Drugs r Bad
The alleged reason for removing the legal highs from Reading was due to a moronic teen drinking amyl nitrate
-
Bad
it was the worst line up i've seen there for ages, i only really got excited about the long blondes... sayin that i was workin on the friday night but most of it was gashflaps.
Pearl jam were ace though, maybe that was just the acid... i dunno..
they should use the money they have to pull ace acts in, instead it seemed like some kind of pre mellenial thing...
-
keeping the old wallet...
...near you in the tent was no good at all, people were opening tents and having a good 5 minute rummage around inside shirt pockets and bags before making their leave :(, incredibly sad!
-
LOL
!
-
cobblers
reading was ace this year, not a bad word to say except nearly got robbed in the middle of the night, but got worken up by cops shouting at some wee chavs outside, overheard one of them shout "aye lets take you back to the ppl whos stuf you stole blah blah" fuckin arrested and the shit kicked out of them? classic.
-
-
Body Count
muthaphuqer!
-
it seems
a little drugs education is in order if teens think they are supposed to SWALLOW poppers..
-
.
you're not supposed to swallow poppers?!
o shi-
-
-
-
-
-
-
I was asleep
woke up to a silloetted figure rumaging through my tent. Absolutly shit myself but it turned out it was just one of my friends trying to find one of them plastic cups i bought from poundland to put his vodka in. Still a scary moment!!!
