Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
As those wintry curtains of night draw themselves over our summer days, we can relax with a pint of mild a good bit of shag for our pipe in the knowledge that we're still rockin. We think it's Brave New Ideas #9 (lost count now - running out of fingers and the abacus was sold for crack) but we know it's really really worth seeing. See the Stars! of Tomorrow! Tomorrow night! Plus! Big old fancy aftershow DFA dance bash!
DrownedinSound.com & 93 Live present...
BRAVE NEW IDEAS #9
Thursday 4th November 2004
@ 93 Feet East, Brick Lane, London, E1
Entry £5
DiS Readers Cheaplist: 3poundguestlist@drownedinsound.com
Doors 7:30pm
Killing Moon
...are probably the best live band in London at the moment according to Drowned In Sound... Having emerged from a 4 month spell locked in a tiny basement, they've developed their sound and songs to something rather special indeed. Expect them to reach the heights very soon.
Dustin's Bar Mitzvah
formed little over 1 year ago and sound like The Ramones and The Kinks going mental in a dustbin. Or, to put it the You're So Old Street way; "They'll either die and vanish or mature and explode. Either way; a rare glimpse into a world of a band being a band just to be a band".
+ Secret Guests (onstage 8pm)
Sadly, after The Cranebuilders pulled out, we had about 36 hours to sort out another gig. We can't really reveal who they are, as they're playing another gig accross town that night, but they make an ace rock n roll racket and our spys who saw them the other week think they're the future. Check em out.
Get on the DiS Readers Cheaplist: 3poundguestlist@drownedinsound.com
After you finish rocking to the sounds of Killing Moon, Dustins et al at 93 Feet East, we here at DiS are very happy to tell you exclusively about a DJing appearance by DFA this Thursday, 4th November.
Having released their DFA: Compilation #2 record the other week, they'll be in London to celebrate. Tim Goldsworth and James Murphy will be present, alongside assorted guests. The boys will be on the decks all. night. long.
The gig takes place at Druzzi's, a nice basement in Hoxton. To be more specific, it's underneath Nightmoves restuarant on Shoreditch High Street.
Doors open 10.45pm-ish, it's a small venue of no bigger than 250 people and it's £5 in. A bargain, really. Things wrap up around 3am.
However, attend the DiS 93 gig, show your stamp on the venue door and get in cheaper.
That'll be three bands and DFA doing it for you for not more than a fiver. Show me something better that night and I'll eat your computer.
LCD Soundsystem - one half of DFA also release their fourth single, 'Movement' next monday.

Yes, Discovered that the memebers of Killing moon were in the year below me at school (proper New Cross!!), so asked them to play our single launch to...
Looking forward to gig tonight ;-) -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
But we dont have mulleted scensters at our gigs?
It's geekdom all the way, baby! -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
Word association, innit. Hoxton. Mullets. -
Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
mullets? oh dear, not a dis smoozefest i hope.. killing moon should awesome - saw them bewitch everyone when the played lewisham. -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
Brick Lane aint in Hoxton. It's near. But far enough away.
Aaaaaah stereotypes, there must be more to life... -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
If I come will you buy me a curry? -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DF
I would say the Hope and Anchor is closer to Hoxton, but then I would be sustaining a pointless coversation. i wish my job was more interesting.. -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
I was talking about the DFA thing ;)
Indeed. Now, I'll just go and pick up my book of tortured writings, my faded pinstrip jacket and shuffle off to something indie. -

Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DF
if you're at a loose end tomorrow, you can get in free to my gig at the infinity, and I'll even buy you a beer to watch us with... Its not bribery, you don't have to like us. We just really want to get some feedback on our new material.. -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DF
I'm at The New Year tomorrow, so can't.
But looking at your influences, your band must be pretty killer. -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DF
in that case, if you ever find yourself at one of our gigs theres a pint waiting for you. We're october all over, we're ex tunbridge wells, so friends with cove, charlottefield, joeyfat, JatA and the rest, not that we sound anything like them.. -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DF
Wicked.
Jon Richards was at Growing last night.
Didn't speak to him though. Don't think he really registered I was there.
JatA rule. That is all. -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DF
somebody told me John might be leaving the band, thats just a rumour though -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DF
Well, is he really in it, like, properly?
Cos he was in Joeyfat.
And he's doing his own solo stuff, too. -
Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
ok, so who went to this?
did dustins trash the stage?
how good were killing moon? -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DF
It was actually amazing.
One and half songs in to the Dustins set the poxy assed lairy lead singer jumped off the stage and tried to attack some fellow shoreditch twat type. But it was all a bit rubbish and the band were booted out of the venue.
The result was not having to hear the rest of their mind numbing tuneless set.
They really need to crawl back into the hole they came from. -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DF
But the first rule about attention seekers, is that you don't talk about attention seekers.
Fucking disrespectful rich preppy wankers. -
Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
right, it's like that then is it?
o well.
i had a little hope that they might be quite good.
what about killing moon? -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
I thought they were really good. I've seen them before and thought that they had something special about them, and they're starting to fulfill their potential a bit. I felt sorry for them in a way, cos both the other bands were fucking shocking who didn't give a shit about either the audience or music in general. But people did seem pretty impressed by what Killing Moon were doing anyway. -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
Bit of a rubbish turn-out for a DiS night. Dustin's were truly despicable. If they continue at their shitty band, their destiny can only take the form of a polished turd. The one song I caught, let alone the fight afterwards, was enough to make me hate them and their utterly deplorable behaviour.
Killing Moon however were glorious, utterly glorious! And you felt that even through the crap sound. It's the first time I saw them play and every tune totally transfixed me. They don't look as confident as their music sounds which was kinda cute...! -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
Yeah, they do need to be a bit more confident I think. The singer does these weird spaz-attack style movements and then mumbles stuff about 'trying something on keyboards' and totally undoes the spell. But they'll get there I'm sure. It was a crap turnout, wasn't it? Nevermind, hopefully it will only be a matter of time... -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
I agree, Killing Moon are a brilliant band. dunno bout last night but they were ace when I saw them last month. -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
art brut, thats shameless spin doctering because ive heard from various sources that killing moon are from luton and essex. Theres nothing newcross about it. -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
O GOD, does it really matter?!
Y don't you discuss the music - have u even seen them play? cos if you had you'd be frothing over how great a band they R -
Re: Brave New Ideas: This Thursday ++ Exclusive DFA afterwards thingy!
err, well I went to school with them in SE12... I know I did, it was 6 years of my life...
And, yes I though they were excellent the other night, I was very, very pleasantly surprised
