Tom Waits
Combining experimental song structures, velvet black atmospheres, and a voice like a St. Bernard with a severe tobacco dependency, Tom Waits is arguably the best singer songwriter, ever. His work reels from bar to bar, plucking the weird and the wonderful from the smoke choked ether, blundering into pianos and glockenspiels, croaking sorry, tawdry stories to anyone who is willing to listen.
