not only do you get a free five track CD with various mixes of tracks from SL, I was offered a wristband for Monday too. Apparently it's just been confirmed or something... I love RT East! so you need to get a wristband from the shop I think... just ask!
Skeletal Lamping is fxxxing with my head already, first impression was: oh it's all a bit too much, but now various splinters of songs have wormed themselves into my head already. It's definitely a bit more far out than Hissing Fauna and I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not. There's nothing like "The past is a grotesque animal" on there though, and I felt that gave Hissing Fauna it's emotional centre in a way that's maybe missing on this new one. But I need to give it a few more spins ;-)
TO CELEBRATE THE RELEASE OF THE NEW ALBUM OF MONTREAL WILL BE PLAYING A SPECIAL ACOUSTIC ONE OFF SHOW AT ROUGH TRADE EAST.
Skeletal Lamping may be bizarre, complicated, and dense, but it's also extremely catchy and packed with slinky grooves that demand a physical response.
WRISTBAND COLLECTION 1 HOUR PRIOR TO GIG, FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVED BASIS- ONE PER PERSON."
quite a bit of waiting around and queuing beforehand but well worth it... they played at least half of Skeletal Lamping I think, and hearing these songs more stripped down and in such an intimate setting added something... you get the sense with this band that there's maybe too much going on sometimes, so it was an interesting change, they could have maybe played more songs people knew but it was beautiful anyway, managed to film one track ("and i've seen a bloody shadow"), sound came out quite well, probably due to the acoustic setup: http://tw.youtube.com/watch?v=XYW7P6DxcNI
but it was worth it, the new songs sounded really good with this set up, good to know they still have great songs beneath the chaos, thought it was a shame they ended on heidmalsgate as it sounded a bit duff, but still a great set
i guess there's worse places to hang out for a few hours...got there just after 18.30, stood in the queue until about 19.10 when they finally let wristband holders in, then another twenty minutes in the front waiting, so all in all just under an hour, was a bit annoying/claustrophobic but still, if that's what it takes for them to set up the way they want it, it's all cool with me. the sound was great, vocal effects were especially noted by the band. they've been playing around with lighting and layout for the instore shows there and I think it worked especially well this time, most of the racks were on the side in the alcove by the sofas, which was also sealed off, the lighting was just on the band so it felt like a proper gig, think sightlines were decent as well...really worked! I think they actually still had some wristbands just before the show but i'm not sure, and you'll never know with these things, if you really want to be there, you'll have to get there early...
yeah, i'm going and very excited...
they play Rough Trade East on Monday at 7pm too, btw...
really how do you get tickets?
i bought "skeletal lamping" there yesterday...

Hangings! Bananas! Horses! The new Flaming Lips?
In-store was great fun!
The mellow version of Heidmalsgate really amused me for some reason, and it was slightly weird to see Kevin Barnes without make-up and stuff.
Any word on
if he has managed to get hold of a horse for Thursday night?
thought it was brilliant too..

I ended up unnecessarily spending 5 hours in rough trade yesterday
but it was worth it, the new songs sounded really good with this set up, good to know they still have great songs beneath the chaos, thought it was a shame they ended on heidmalsgate as it sounded a bit duff, but still a great set
5 hours!!?

it was 5 hours including the show
so it wasn't too bad, more due to my own laziness and not knowing the area so just lurked, managed to get to the front though so was well worth it
I'm going
I'm very very excited.
