to listen and add them. But when I logged on, I had a friend request from them. Spooky. But yeah, they pretty OK. Looking forward to future releases, for sure.

people who wear novelty hats
People who say "We have a laugh 'ere don't we? They ought to put us on telly"
People who form bands using 80s computer game sound effects and/or lyrics about 80s TV shows and think they're being original
People who write in CAPITAL LETTERS and say LOL a lot
People who use the word "Hai" on the internet

People who use the word random all the time, almost always to describe things that aren't random at all.
I honestly didn't mean to go on a rant about a band I've never heard. It was just beautiful_balloon asked me what I thought was wrong with the name and it seemed best to answer.
and I agree they are bad things to be reminded of. But the logic doesn't really work. I could easily say Danananaykroyd is a contrived band name, therefore they remind me of other contrived things, therefore I won't listen to them.
In fact, the argument can reasonably extend to any band who aren't called 'The Stoops' or 'South Yorkshire Musicians Collective'... and such names could easily be criticised for unoriginality.
Every band name has to be contrived to some extent, and will always have some connotations, just as how you dress can always have connotations. Its a fairly transparent name that just states 'we are a band.' I like it. Anyway go listen
I'm seriously wondering what kind of person really gives a fuck enough about a bands name to refuse to listen to them. To me that's totally ridiculous. Its the same shit as bands being told they've jumped on a band wagon and copied the sound of other bands that they've never even heard of. If you take away the history and association, band names like Radiohead, The Beach Boys, The Smiths, The Beatles, The Cure, Talking Heads, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Aphex Twin, Run DMC, Pixies, The Velvet Undergound, all sound a bit odd but they're great bands. Liking a band should never be about getting past a name. Its about their sound and their performance and the integrity, honesty and entertainment with which they do those things. If you don't like that element then fair enough and you have every right to say so and I respect that but to write off a band just by their name before hearing a note makes you look like an idiot. People who truly like discovering new music don't have primary concerns about a bands name or what they look like or what they wear. But, music is about performance and expression and some bands do choose to do that through their name or how they look or what they wear. For me thats great and the beauty about being in a band is that it is entirely your choice.
As it happens, I think our name is one of the simplest band names I have ever heard and I can tell you that it has no other connotations than the bare bones of what we do; Being in a band. We love it.
I think someone needs to have their smug head surgically removed from their arse.
Thanks a lot for the nice comments from people, hopefully see some of you on the tour in November.
Whether you appreciate it or not every name has connotations - that's the way language works. And those connotations are given meaning by the individual. Presumably you chose the name because you liked it and felt it fitted with the band's music. Theguywithnousername just listed what he associated with the name - it's no biggie, and he's clearly not a potential fan any way.
People make these kind of associations all the time. What I associate with people who take umbrage at minor, unimportant, imagined sleights is fragile egos.
I think what undermines Darren's point slightly is the fact that I did listen and subsequently commented on my views on it (on the message he replied to). So, although I did say I wouldn't listen on account of a name, it's a bit silly for him to have a go given that I clearly then overcame the prejudice, listened and posted what I thought.
I think it's naive of anyone to think that people's impressions of a band won't be coloured by a band's name. Obviously you get past it once you've listened but clearly you will immediately conjure up an image from a band's name
Your name actually does suit the music so it's probably well-chosen but in this instance it actually proves my point that I heard the name and thought "this isn't going to be my cup of tea" and I was right that it wasn't, and that it wasn't my cup of tea for the reasons I assumed when I heard the name. To be honest I don't even think it's necessarily a bad name for a band- it's unique and memorable but also one where I immediately thought "I'm not going to enjoy this".
Anyway. Darren - good luck with WHB; you've clearly got a few fans and are doing alright for yourself and you're clearly passionate about what you do so I hope it all goes well for you.
Hey, thanks for the reply. It didn't really wanna just offend you and seems you didn't mean to offend us so we're all good. To be truthful the only thing that really riled me was when after you did listen you said "I love the fact no band on Earth has ever sounded so exactly like I predicted from the name alone...". Honestly, I found that a bit snooty but this band is kind of like my baby so I guess I'm touchy about it sometimes! I appreciate your calm and honest response. In any case its cool that people chat so openly about music on sites like this. It seems to be the only thing keeping new music alive.
I logged on to Myspace
to listen and add them. But when I logged on, I had a friend request from them. Spooky. But yeah, they pretty OK. Looking forward to future releases, for sure.
VERY good
i really like their stage presence and energy- saw them for a White Heat night and insta fell in love
You've Had Band is their best song :)
the same happened to me
i saw them at the vortex a couple of months ago and now i can't wait for their next london gig!
i also fell in love with Stricken City that night!
yes re: Stricken City
!!! they are both ace indeed :) I love that WHB are signed to Kitsune now
I can't listen to them.
I just can't get past the name.
They may be the best band in the world ever but I'm never ever going to find out unfortunately.
That's a pretty silly reason not like listen to a band
they're ace, by the way
How wacky on a scale of 1 to 10?
whats wrong with the name?
It sounds contrived
and immediately makes me think of:
forced Kerraziness
people who go round at festivals in jester hats
people who wear novelty hats
People who say "We have a laugh 'ere don't we? They ought to put us on telly"

*meant to say "novelty ties"
I don't have a hat obsession.
PS I wish to apologise sincerely to all members of We Have Band for my above post.
I honestly didn't mean to go on a rant about a band I've never heard. It was just beautiful_balloon asked me what I thought was wrong with the name and it seemed best to answer.
I'm aware they may not sound like this at all.
thats an amusing list
and I agree they are bad things to be reminded of. But the logic doesn't really work. I could easily say Danananaykroyd is a contrived band name, therefore they remind me of other contrived things, therefore I won't listen to them.

I'll give it a go
so long as someone assures me it's not massively wacky...
:D
I love the fact no band on Earth has ever sounded so exactly like I predicted from the name alone...
They're probably pretty good at what they do but it's just not for me.
Darren from We Have Band.
Just a little message. About our choice of name.

LOve.
Darren...WHB.
Did you actually read his posts?
He even offered an apology.

I've only just seen this.

*There's a bit of grammar confusion there
in terms of whether I'm addressing Darren or talking in general. Sorry about that.
The end.

oh
i thought this was going to be about a new tom vek album involving a big brass band but its not and i'm really disappointed
tried to start this thread yesterday
but yes they are awesome.
You've Had Band is superb
Yep
Saw them at the Lock Tavern. They were great.
Not often I go home and actively seek out bands I've seen randomly live.
There are
band names that offend me much more than these guys. Danananaykroyd is a much more "wacky" and contrived name than We Have Band.
We Have Band are pretty good.
I refuse to even listen to Danananaykroyd.
They want to be clever, fine. They don't need my support.
bleepy
already heard all their songs
hooray for the radio
Nice "we've been trapped in the toilet roll factory for 48 hours now!"
Promotional image
i still don't get nu-rave
We Have Band are great
Saw them live a few months ago and was really impressed.
