Minutemen took jazz, funk and folk influences and played them in (almost exclusively) sub-two minute punk blasts of righteousness and amiable humour. George Hurley's skatty jazz drumming combined with the legendary Mike Watt's thudding, often chordal bass playing to provide a solid and remarkable base from which singer/guitarist D Boon could holler, vent and contort. Their 1984 double album, Double Nickels on the Dime provides their recognised career highlight, if not for being far superior to their consistent output, then simply for containing 43 wildly varying tracks, including 'Corona', now famous as the theme tune to Jackass.
Their career was cut short with Boon's tragic death in a van accident in 1985, although Hurley and Watt continued with fIREHOSE.
