The Bubble Project

Many bad things have happened in the world. But none of them were the bubble projects fault.

The Bubble Project

With reviews on drownedinsound.com, coming under experimental and punk, the bubble project are a band that write a good catchy tune, but like to have fun doing it. But if you ask any of the four members to describe the noise they make, the answer would simply be, POP.

Our story starts in November 2000, a pub in sunderland after the demise of their former band the mullet police. The Bubble Projects first line up consisted of

  • stephen - guitar/keyboard/samples/singing
  • ricky - bass/keyboard/guitar/singing
  • tim - hitting the drums as hard as he could.
This line-up recorded two demos. The first,in november 2000, without ever having a practise together. The end result was called music and songs by the bubble project. It showed the bands two sides. The catchy songs and the experimental. Featuring a nine minute piano piece called nine ten, which the band once preformed live at a boyeater unplugged event. The performance lasted exactly nine minutes ten seconds, during which the room was in near darkness and total silence. A review of music and songs can be found at drownedinsound.com under experimental demos. With a little interest shown from santos records, the band recorded their second demo, music and songs by the bubble project vol 2 in july 2001. Again it showed the bands two sides. The band played around sunderland a lot and Newcastle a few times during 2001.

the band took time off over christmas 2001 to make some changes. One of those changes was ian black. Ian joined the band on bass, leaving ricky to take care of keyboards and samples full time aswell as more singing. But having Ian on board was no great change. A life long friend, the band were always getting him to play/sing songs with them or just sit on stage with them. In february 2002 another change was made. The band took all the songs off their two demos (8 songs in all) and put them together on one CD and called it who killed retro girl?. It proved to be a good move and turned out to be a hit.

The band are soon to record a single which they will self release later in the year.
