Evan Dando

Signed to label: Setanta

Evan Dando came to fame as the frontman of The Lemonheads, a one-time punk outfit, turned acoustic power-pop trio when they signed to a major label in 1990. Over a series of grunge-friendly albums, including It's A Shame About Ray (1992) and Come On Feel The Lemonheads (1993), the group saw its frontman become something of a pin-up icon for slackers. However, as fame took its hold, so did Dando's fast-worsening drug habit, eventually causing the band to split after 1996's Car Button Cloth.

Spending most of his transitional years in Australia, the troubled singer/songwriter returned in 2001 with a series of acoustic shows and a live album of both old and new material, Live At The Brattle Theatre/Griffin Sunset. Proving that separation does indeed make the heart grow fonder, his long-awaited comeback album Baby I'm Bored received considerable press and public attention on its release in 2003.

Trivia: Courtney Love complained about having "impure thoughts" about Evan. Like her husband Kurt Cobain, Dando liked his cover versions. His biggest hits with The Lemonheads were 'Into Your Arms' and 'Mrs Robinson' originally by Love Positions and Simon And Garfunkel, respectively. Tom Edwards
