Fonda 500
Fonda 500 don¹t sound like an ordinary band, because they are not an ordinary band. They are a kind of Nu Pop Nonsense, but held together by strands of pure pop genius.
'Fonda 500 are the best band on earth, end of story' - Careless Talk Costs Lives
After the release of two highly acclaimed albums (8 Track Sound System and The Autumn : Winter Collection) and two equally acclaimed singles (8 Track and Super Chimpanzee) released by The Village in the year 2000, the Fondas are finally back with a new album, Number 1 Hi-Fi Hair.
After such an energetic start to their career in 2000 it may seem strange that '01 was apparently barren. Certainly there was no shortage of live shows... and for those who witnessed them, there was no shortage of new material. The shows too were often brilliant and occasionally dismal, but never the same twice, and included a successful tour of Holland. One of the most prolific songwriting partnerships in the UK remained active and produced some of its finest material to date.
So against a backdrop of positive things starting to happen for one of our finest bands it was back to the 8-track for the recording of the new album. The new album is none generic, but hangs together beautifully as a coherent listen. The tunes include huge chugging bastards, pastoral symphonies, Japanese counting songs, eighties cheese, spacehopper wigouts, gorgeous 'Pale Blue Eyes' type things and instrumental passages that would be the ideal accompaniment to adverts for feminine hygiene products.
After a record deal with Truck Records and signing their publishing to Mutesong, there became a high level of interest among various TV production companies - one series of Teachers was liberally scattered with choice Fonda bits.
The band are now signed to Gentle Electric.
