Interpol To Return This Year

by Andrew Farley
Artists: Interpol
interpol
New York doomsters Interpol are to return in September with a new album.

The album, the follow up to their 2002 debut, 'Turn On The Bright Lights', will again be produced by Peter Katis. The band have commented that they are unlikely to play live during the next few months, making festival appearences seem improbable. We can but hope.

DIScuss: Who's better - Interpol or the Stills? Would like to see a double headline tour? Is the New York music scene all it's cracked up to be?

Thank god for Interpol. Let's hope they have enough ideas for a second album.

    THE STILLS!
didn't Interpol, The Stills AND Franz Ferdinand play a gig in manchester last year?
I remember because it was just after T in the park.
    that would've been amazing.

they might be able to squeeze in reading.
yes, they are the best band to have emerged from anywhere over the past few years.

interpol kick the stills' sorry (collective) ass......i bought 'logic will break your heart' recently listened to it a couple of times and i don't think it's bad exactly, i just felt like i'd rather listen to interpol instead.

it's about bloody time! canny excited i am.
      • Re: Interpol To Return This Year

i don't think you can compare the two. interpol are a truly mighty band - only time will tell if they lucked on the brilliant atmosphere and style of the first album. the stills are great with a tune, but really just a bit of fluff.

          whoo hoo. can't wait.
        • Interpol To Return This Year

hhmm both are very good but i have to say interpol are better than the stills. the mood they set in their music and the atmosphere at their gigs is like no one else. the stills are young whipper snappers on the music scene and maybe 1 day they will be the better band, but for the time being interpol are the kings. plus intepols bass player is camp as christmas but he gets away with it

          Interpol > The Stills

I can't wait for their new album. As someone else said, I hope they have enough ideas to avoid making TOTBL Mk II, as nice as that would no doubt be. Obviously it will be in their usual style, but hopefully it will also be markedly different. Fuck knows how they are going to pull that off, I just hope they do.
          • Re: Interpol To Return This Year

Yeah I agree, a second TOtBL would be nice but not as nice as something genuinely new...must admit, much as I like the production on the old stuff, I was quite disppointed to hear they were working with the same producer - they could play samba-influenced extreme electro noise-funk and it'd probably sound the same with that sort of heavily treated recording work...

Oh hooray, Interpol are one of the best bands I've ever seen live. I don't know why, it's just 4 men in suits, but it just feels so special.

Interpol by a very long windy and cornish[have you driven on their roads!!?!] mile. I had a ticket to see Interpol, FF and the stills, but got a temp of 103 and couldnt go, not only that i also had a drivng test that i couldn't do, I lost £80 that week as none of my emo no appreciation for musical supremacy that are the darklords Interpol- friends would pay up for their ticket, they wouldnt go without me, umf emo!?!? Not that im complaining... I've got Turn on the the Bright Lights

I also bought whilst i was over in NY the Yes New York compilation... YES the NY scene is all its cracked up to be, however where in the world at this present moment beats Brighton?

Being mentioned in the same sentence as Interpol is The Stills' greatest acheivement so far this year.
