In every scene, there has to be at least one trailblazer, one band who’ll do things different, go that extra step, or sometimes, that extra mile. Lumping Coheed & Cambria in with their fellow post-hardcore manglers is easy, but it also makes them stand out like a day-glo clown at a Tory conference.

Not for them, songs about girls and trucker hat pains. No, Coheed have made a record entitled In ‘Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth:3’. yes, three. As if to imply that there have been two other volumes in a space age Tolkien-esque trilogy. Which there have been. Hmm.

You could call them distant emo-pop-cousins of Mars Volta, but to be honest, they’re much more the pop-hardcore version of The Smashing Pumpkins circa ‘Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness’ and all the pop brilliance and utter indulgent madness that went with it. Fortunately, there are in these eleven tracks, enough straight ahead MTV anthem tunage to keep even the most uninvolved listener happy. Immersing yourself in an album which is one-third of a novel that singer/guitarist Claudio Sanchez has written – no, really – is optional.

Three Evils (Embodied In Love And Shadow)’ and ‘Blood Red Summer’ are catchy enough to reminisce of prime time Jimmy Eat World, if they were doused in AFI’s makeup. It is indeed unsurprising that Coheed are joining AFI on tour in the States. There is amongst the grandstanding songs giant children’s choirs, orchestral set pieces and a whole lot of electric widdle. Nobody said this ride was going to be easy; but for all the Babylon 5 elements, it’s ultimately a straight-ahead rawk thrash through the high-tune emo text book.

Punisher comics optional.

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

"As if to imply that there have been two other volumes in a space age Tolkien-esque trilogy. Which there have been"

Um, I thought they only released one album prior to this. Which would make this their second album. Weird...

...and Claudio has been contributing to a graphic novel. Should be full of death, death and more death if the lyrics of this album are taken literally.

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Ear

Well in interviews Claudio's been saying alot of the characters get killed off in various way...but personally I really can't be fuckered to follow the story. Great band though.

Re: Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Ear

Aye - there's some slitting of throats on there, I think.
And they really are a great band - took a while for them to click with me, but once they did...

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

Gareth Dobson roolz. Very fair review. I regularly wedge this album in my stereo, 'The Crowing' is probably the most amazing four minutes of prog-esque riffing I've ever heard.

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

make that 6 minutes

and its the third part, because the first part is released last, after the fourth part (which will be released next)

i like these guys

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

I always thought they sounded liek Rush...but whatever.

Great record though.

well...

maybe they should have kept this monstrosity pile of filth a secret and kept silent as well.

there is NO NEED to have a Rush tribute band playing EMO and sounding like a diseased squirrel. It's like having Ludacris sing old jazz songs to smiling 4 year old children. It's like the Manics actually playing something remotely similiar to punk rock. It's like Drowned In Sound actually writing a review worthwhile....in summary: it will never happen and it shouldn't happen.

RUBBISH.

Re: well...

I love your posts.

Re: well...

So do I now.

Re: well...

You suck. Go find a new hobby. Please keep DiSsing DiS reviews though :o)

Re: well...

Though I'll listen to anyone's opinion if they choose to voice it, the fact that you wasted three whole similies complaining about a band that no one forced you to listen really indicates to me that you have too much time on your hands and too little respect for other people's tastes.

Re: well...

i think ambellina is a big loser.

similies? what are we, in english class?

um... no. we are not.

haha i'm only kidding. i second that.

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

any review that name-checks 'mellon collie...' can't be wrong in my book - oh, and Mastagon, i kinda agree, all apart from the Dis bashing bit.

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

No, I.K.S.O.S.E :3 (IN KEEPING SECRETS OF SILENT EARTH : 3) is not the 3rd album to be released from Co&Ca, first release was "Second Stage Turbine Blade" the next release, which is the conclusion to the story, will be intitled "My Dear Apollo, Goodbye, Im Burning Star : 4" then the last album that will be released which is the 1st album will be intitled "The Online Bag adventures of Coheed and Cambria" but all of this is taken from different sources from where i heard it from, so somethings may be changed.

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

I've just bought the album purely on the basis of the this review - and its absolutely spot-on. The title track is so good, for once i can't put it in words. Fuck everyone, C&C now have the world at their feet.

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

In the past 5 or 6 months to me and my friends Coheed has become somewhat close to a religion. The drum lines are the most unique I have ever heard. Also the way Claudio portrays his voice to almost any kind of note possible reminds me of how Davy Havoc sings. Anyways I would just like to say to everyone who disses bands that you dont like really gets to the people who do. So think before you act speak Please.

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

What can i say i love these guyz!!! Probabaly the best band in the world, alone with The Used. Guyz buy the comic book they have released, its fucking awesome!!!!!

You really know the whole storyline when you have read this comic.

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Ear

yep the used SUCK ASS but these guys are awesome

deserves four because it is original, and no it is similar, but song structure musically and harmony wise it is very very differnt,

mind oyu i would be stupid to expect a reviewer for DiS to get opast the 'his voice sounds similar' stage and not bother listening to the harmony lyrics or music,

wow you guys really can suck sometimes

Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Ear

To me, Coheed will always be a budget-price Mars Volta without the intellect or the vocal brilliance.

I can't stand Claudio Sanchez's stupid voice - it sounds like it should be the soundtrack to Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors or the Ulysses cartoon.

coheed and cambria

coheed and amazing.
saw them last year with circa survive and they're just awesome live.
their lyrics & bass is ace
i advise you listen to all their albums
