I've never been a big fan of the Pixies. The reformation gigs were awful, too. They looked as if they'd rather be anywhere else (well, that's based on the one I was at and footage from Coachella).
The Mars Volta, as a spectacle - an inspiring, all-consuming ever-expanding beast of a band - spank the crap out of the dull indierawk of The Pixies FO'REAL. The Mars Volta could widdle and wobble while I fill my brain with ale and I would be very happy indeed.
Of course, they're not a patch on the nevergonnaleavemystereoever At The Drive-In. Gosh I HEART that band still...
