New Yorkers Fountains of Wayne, aka The Greatest Band In The World, finally come to the UK next month. The only dates they're doing are thus:
Feb 29th Manchester University (£10)
Mar 1st Glasgow Garage (£10)
Mar 3rd London Mean Fiddler (£12)
Tickets are onsale from usual outlets although, as noted below, wayahead.com have already sold out.
It would appear the UK release for their Grammy-nominated single 'Stacy's Mom' has been put back till March 1st.

why not just actually wait for a story before you write one for a change?-

Add to that Glasgow Garage on March 1st.
Bristol... please...-
Re: Fountains of Wayne hit the UK
oh fuck off you tit. they haven't played the UK in years, ergo this is a news story.-
Re: Fountains of Wayne hit the UK
i'm quite aware that they've not played in the UK in years. which is why i was hoping that the article would confirm the full details of this 'tour'.
maybe you start doing this as soon as you find sketchy details on other tours, or maybe you should stop jumping the gun-

And a south coast gig would be nice too - even if it means having to go to Portsmouth - a total dump, just a shame that the venues are so damn good! (Wedge, Pyramids, etc... ) -
Re: Fountains of Wayne hit the UK
well, as the tickets are onsale (see wayahead), and gigs typically sell out quick for popular bands, i don't see how this is jumping the gun.
the band were in our top albums of 2003 and a lot of our readers are really into the band, so it IS newsworthy. if it was any other band and it hadn't been confirmed just this afternoon, then yeah, maybe we should wait a few weeks and mention it when it's all sold out. we will endeavour to find out more dates at the start of play tomorrow and tell you all about it... -
Re: Fountains of Wayne hit the UK
considering the story contains the most important date of the tour (london), it's not 'jumping the gun' at all.

Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
Don't ANYONE book online for this show. Both WayAhead and Aloud are charging a £2+ service fee and £4.70 postage making a London show ticket with face value £12 cost almost £19! OK, some people may be totally desperate to be there and will be happy to be ripped but, let's face it, apart from the relative rarity vaue, this one's not really going to be that special, is it. We know exactly how they're going to look (regulation NY slackers) and sound (just like the records only a bit louder - but not that much louder, they're getting on a bit now).
WIM is way overrated; from their ace debut they've actually regressed into supersafe MTV-friendly mainstream American idea of what constitutes 'alternative' music. Can't begrudge them some serious bucks, tho'...-

Re: Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
WayAhead, Aloud, Bigmouth, GigsAndTours, NME tickets... they are all WayAhead. They're pretty hard to escape. Ticketweb are better if you have to book online.
But as someone who has had big problems with WayAhead in the past (far more than just their booking fees, I can assure you), I would advise people to avoid them if at all possible. Wherever you can, always use a venue's own box office... if you live near enough, you can usually avoid booking fees altogether.-

Wow. It's happening again. That pre Fountains gig buzz. And a couple of months to wait, as well! I've got my tickets for the London show, but a south cost gig would indeed be nice. Portsmouth? Southampton? Brigthon? All three? You know it makes sense. -

Fountains Of Wayne - staceys mom
Hi,
without trying to make rash judgements - "staceys mom" sounds like an old man's take on the group "busted" - fine if your 19 but these guys are almost veterens, staceys mom must be about 60.
Are the other tracks on the album any good "no better place" sounds okay nothing special.-
Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
i found the album a bit puzzling. it's 16 tracks long yet there are 4 tracks on there that shouldn't make it out of the "b-sides only" box. buy the album, it's very good - even if stacy's mom does sound a lot like Busted (i reckon). -
Re: Fountains Of Wayne - staceys mom
It's ruddy marvellous. It's just like the first two - starts of with poppy stuff then calms down a bit.
"Stacey's Mom" is ace. Not every song has to be the aural equivalent of "War and Peace"!-
Re: Fountains Of Wayne - staceys mom
its definately better than busted. i like it, its almost humorous. but then it is pretty boring after the first two verses and the chorus

Re: Fountains of Wayne hit the UK
Don't reckon there will be any other dates now. Bought London tickets (they're flying out the door) and booked a hotel. Holiday time!-
Re: Fountains of Wayne hit the UK
*crosses fingers and hopes venue is upgraded to the Astoria*

Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
Its sold out now.. lucky i bought tix.-
Re: Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
Wot? London? Where did you buy the tix from?
That's pretty amazing if it's all sold out already.
It's also pretty good that I didn't "wait till you have a news story" as 'em' said, before putting up a story. Heh heh.
Well, here's hoping for a venue upgrade... -
Re: Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
Available still through Stargreen and Ticketmaster at time of writing, but not (the wretched) WayAhead.-
Re: Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
Yeah, someone I know just this minute got a ticket from Ticketmaster. Won't last long though. I don't want a venue upgrade though, small venues are way better.-
Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
I agree about the small venues. I have seen FOW twice and both times were in small venues and it was amazing. -
Re: Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
Mean Fiddler's not one of the better small venues though.-
Re: Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
Yeah, you're probably right there. What about the newly renamed Dingwalls - whatever it's called now. That's a pretty cool place. Also Shepherd's Bush Empire... I like it there.-
Re: Fountains Of Wayne Hit The UK
I think it'd be good at the Scala - not just cus i can get a bus from round the corner from DiS towers, but cus the pa's good and it's more like a venue that happenes to a club (tho it was a cinema) than a club that has a stage where you can barely see, and musky air that makes it feel so dingy and overbearing. Context is so darn important. I didn't even think Arab Strap worked at Mean Fiddler. Pretty Girls was good, but probably cus they were my favourite band of 2003...
