Suede Split. Or Brit-Pop Death Rattle Continues
Posted: 06 Nov '03, 16:01
After over a decade of getting high on every substance known to man and animal, it is with great sadness that we reveal the end of Suede.
The following message was sent to their fanclub this afternoon.
"Suede would like to announce that from next year they will be working on their own individual projects.
There will not be a new studio album until the band feel that the moment is artistically right to make one.
This announcement does not affect the forthcoming touring commitments. Suede would like to thank the fans for their wonderful support over the years.
See you in the next life."
DiScuss: What was your all time favourite Suede song, gig or memory? Will the demise of The Bluetones be the official brit pop death knell? Anyone heard any more rumours about Menswe@r reforming?

Thanks God
Thank God for that, they had become embarrassingly shit. Just the other day I was comparing TV performances from now and then, and it is just shocking how bad they have become. -
..
if the world was perfect the next headline on here tomorrow would be "Oasis split"
oh the joy that would bring-
At effing last
Finally some good news in the world of pop, no more will my fond memories be tarnished.

Suede
the amount of stuff that's not in the press is.... vast.-
Re: Suede
Fruity is slightly sad, but he won't cry. Fruity liked Suede.-
Re: Suede
Elvis Likes Fruity. Better bands have split, worse bands have stayed together.-
Re: Suede
i expressed my indifference to them earlier... well ok i posted a little glee, but i tired of suede some years ago. the thread slowly grew, and here are some of the more interesting pro statements:
"Oh fuck right off you wanker."
"They're just about the uncoolest band around at the moment though so all the up-themselves trendies slag them off.
"suede arent a band, they are a religion, which why some of us feel something just died."
"NME'sters, you missed something. back to the strokes then eh, you dullards."
"Suede aren't Bowie wannabies, they're way better than Bowie."
we need some more high profile band splits. oh please let placebo be next...

well, it would seem
there is a god... -
not again..
too bad, i really loved suede :/ -
The End
About time too, unfortunately. First album - classic singles, average otherwise. Second album - classic. Third album - great pop record, some ropey lyrics. Fourth album - great tunes, embarrassing lyrics. Fifth album... should never have been made.
I'll miss them for what they were.-
Suede - The Living Dead
It's not so hard to take, cos the Suede that we all love was they who did My Dark Star, Trash et al. They haven't been that for a while, and Brett must know in his heart of hearts that there's no real comparison between Obsessions and This Hollywood Life.
Still, whatever anyone thinks of what they are now, they were the driving force behind Britpop and have a massive fanbase and will be sorely missed. -
Re: The End
I see the article also mentioned The Bluetones. It's nothing to do with whether a band a part of a 'dying genre', it's whether they still make a decent racket. The Bluetones' last album was as good as anything they've done. Suede's wasn't.-
Re: The End
praps it's just my taste changing, but i thought the Bluetones really should have quit whilst they were ahead. Ditto Purresscence, Supernaturals, Cosmic Rough Riders, Stereo MC's........-
Re: The End
I liked the last Supernaturals album. "Life Is A Motorway" was hilarious.
Mind you, Menswear are still with us. It's just that these days they operate under the name "The Libertines".-
Re: The End
Yeah, the last Supernaturals album was pretty good, and quite different to their old stuff really. They were also good live at the time.
But they are now no more.
Please god, let the Cosmic Rough Riders be next...-
Re: The End
The Supernaturals were not dissimilar to The Thrills, albeit with an added sense of humour and much better tunes. I miss 'em.

Suede Suede Suede
The Strokes should thank them I remember the hype of Suede years back .... Either way I think both Suede and the Strokes SUCK. Thing is Suede used to be good their first album is glam perfection. The Strokes are just big in the UK god knows why!? Please I would take a Menswear solo project compared to the American crap the UK is making popular ...
What I do like:
Franz Ferdinand
The Rapture
Ladytron
Winterbrief
Motormark
For crying out loud if Dashboard Confessional get HUGE in the UK please please kill me!!! -
Crappy DF
Dashboard Confessional are already huge in the UK basically. I remember when Emo used to be Emo - and stuff like The Get Up Kids was considered to be it. Now Emo is shouty 'post hardcore' ATDI rip off bands like FFAF and Finch.... man emo and punk suck
Ah Britpop was crappy but in a way it's so good. My History teacher went to see Elastica when she was at Uni...-
Re: Crappy DF
This is not good because Bright Eyes are a million times better than Dashboard but whatever ... Dashboard is white washed American MTV crap like the Strokes ....
Elastica were amazing they had more punk in one pinky than 600 Julian Casablancas that commercial whore!
What is next will the Brits make

this sucks, but......
The last few things from suede have been week. I used to always look forward to their b-sides(besides teh album) but I think brett just sort of lost it lyrically. That 2nd album is a corker(also consider the circumstances it was made unde with bernard leaving before completion). Please spare me the shit that is popular today. the strokes suck(lame songs, melodies and lyrics), white stripes(fuckin fad band)and anymore nyc/detroit shit. The libertines are okay(I think pete is the one to watch)while the future of music lies with bands like keane, amtyville(ex geneva), amplifier and brett solo -
Good day for the future
Pity they split. They made some great songs, and its
just a shame that they couldn't go out on a high note.
On the plus side, maybe there'll be a Anderson/Butler reformation ala Page and Plant in a few years. -
Hmm...
and hopefulyl Bernard will leave his guitars at home and we'll be treated to a stylophone version of The Wild Ones, Brett's ash'tinted vocal chords straining and failing to reach those high notes. Two and a half great albums, one album that sucked the very depths of the gutter and one that left you indifferent. Sci-Fi Lullabies will be the album to remember them by and I'm happy to bet that, like my copy, the second CD has barely been played due to its uncomprising awfulness. -
Britpop
I like the songs i've heard by Suede but don't no their stuff in great detail... but they kind of remind me of my childhood... Despite the fact of me being around 9 when Brit Pop was at it's height, i feel a surge of respect when it comes to Blur/Elastica/Supergrass/Suede etc... Good old days when it was Oasis vs Blur for the number one - now it's Blazin Squad vs Kylie (Kylie obviously). Ahh and now it's all shitty Libertines and The Strokes... i can't wait for it to die like Nu Metal did.. and Britpop.. it'll be 10 years later when people start to look back and think 'Boy i remember that craze of The White Stripes!' and possibly find some kind of goodness in it (if that's possible). I feel i can go back and actually appreciate it now, no matter how crap it apparently was... The whole fun is remembering songs you used to love (Mansun's Wide Open Space being one).-
Re: Britpop
i miss britpop. i miss the glamour. i miss the sexiness. i miss the great singles. i miss my life story, silver sun, pulp, mansun and suede :-(
x-
Re: Britpop
The thing is, when Mansun's debut, Attack of the Grey Lantern went to number one it was at the centre of something that a great number of people felt part of.
I was in that huge Weatherspoons pub in Charing X when The Vines were playing at the Astoria. Some bloke had come in and given four random guys a bunch of tickets, for free, such was the demand. They had new clue who they were, naturally.
Rather than dissolve amongst an acetic ocean of fanciful memories and bitterness towards the current crop'o'crap, it's our duty to search out the great new wave. I guess it's just that we're all at a bit of a loss, cos there's no meaning in Gap rock like The Strokes or retro-indulgances like The Darkness. Guess there's no other way, though...
