My thoughts, as a rock sound contributor...
The list is a strong one.
Yes, some records have been missed, but that's accidental: you try keeping tabs on every album from January 1st. If you made such a list, and then looked over it two weeks later, you'd want to replace certain records. (i.e. WIVES WIVES WIVES).
But there are so many excellent, left-of-the-commercial-center albums among those 75 - Bullet Union, dalek, Dive Dive, Shots Fired (well done Marc for signing them up), Bear Vs Shark, Jesu, 65days, TRANSISTOR TRANSISTOR (get the fuck in, that album is excellent) - that the obvious shit can be overlooked. There are so many different opinions amonst the rock sound staff, hence why it covers so many different types of music, that there's bound to be room for The Darkness, NIN et al.
This is probably the most comprehensive list of quality 2005 records I've seen so far, certainly richer in variety than Rough Trade's. (Which is really saying something.) Of course, DiS's will be the ultimate list, but the results of that are yet to be seen...

i think this list is quite good. it obviously leans toward the heavier music of this year, but that's what rocksound is for, no?
i'm really surprised by how diverse it is - as a prejudiced outsider to rocksound i wouldn't have expected them to rate 65dos, mew bullet union etc.
maybe i should buy rocksound...?

rocksound seems to have gone a lot more rock/metal in the years since it started in terms of features and things but i like the fact that it always keeps space for all different types of music. and there is always something interesting on the free cd.
and that is the best 'album of the year' list i've seen so far this year. i have twelve of them just for the count.
As another rock sound contributor
There are actually a few surprises on that list - didn't expect to see either Mew or Autolux in there, although I was expecting Pelican to be higher. Overall, it's not a bad list though - some really good albums in there.

I only agree with two of their choices (Arcade fire are fucking amazing and Queens of the Stone Age who should be higher up)and the rest are complete crap! especially the darkness who have only released one shite song from their album!!!
