Crap albums you've spent far too much time listening to.

I just realised how much time I spent listening to Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants by Oasis, trying to convince myself it was good. I'll never get that time back. Same with Know Your Enemy by the Manics. Both are crap albums, but I remember really hammering them at the time.

Anyone else spent an inordinate amount of time on albums that are just shit?

O Fracas

the album isn't crap.. it was just a bit dissapointing. has really strong individual songs though.. brouhaha, factfinding, zeroes&ones, what jim ears, just a shame they were all singles

Also

Oh my word. Zeroes & Ones, what a TUNE.

Come back tera:tora, all is forgiven. O Fracas have gone off the boil a bit for me. Shame cuz I bumbed them for a bit.

For me maybe Hot Chip's recent album. Maybe Massive Attack's follow up to Mezz. Liar's second album. Geeze. I loved the debut so, so, so much.

Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City

I like them, but I don't love them. They're an OK band - I don't know why I gave the album so many chances.

it was around this release

that i became really grateful for bands doing promo streams of albums on myspace. after silent alarm i really wanted to like awitc and i must've listened to the whole thing around 10-15 times, but every time 'in an age of... moderrrrrniteeeee' came in my heart sank like an anchor.

Isn't this thread

basically albums you used to like but don't like anymore?

I think it's

albums you have never liked but you keep listening to in the hope something will click

Ah

Fair enough.

not really

I agree with A Weekend In The City.
I tried so hard to give it some love but it rejected me every time.

Ryan Adams - Rock N Roll

Terrible album, tacky 80s rock production and an awful title - but I still dedicated a good six months listening to it in the hope that one day it would miraculously become 1/10th as good as Hearbreaker.

Needless to say it didn't.

All My Bloody Valentine Albums

I will never get that time in my life back. You bastards said it was good as well. i Blame this site.

^ LOL at this

Oh, and ban request while we're at it.

So,

im going to get banned for not being a sheep and pretending to like an awful band?

you mightn't enjoy them

but surely deep down you know they're not an awful band.

Someone

needs to tell them that being in a band is about lyrics as well as sound. And the fact you cant hear the lyrics over the awful feedback on their records makes them awful. Thank You.

haha

oooo matron

you can hear the lyrics!

and they're very good, in case you were wondering.

Well Mogwai manage to be a great band

without much in the lyric department.

No lyrics / inaudible lyrics >>> shit audible lyrics

Lyrics...

......aren't always that important...

wow

you sound like my grandad

It's okay guys.

He likes The Killers.

Mystery solved.

It's pretty much Noise.

It's pretty much take it or leave it...sometimes. I like it. It's also inspired a hell load of bands...It's about breaking barriers, doing whatever you want, I don't think it's suppose to change lifes...

I really don't have a solid opinion.

I'll put into words later..

wow

Can we revoke his right to vote in elections and stuff?

Foals - Antidotes

I wish it wasn't so crushingly mediocre

What...

makes it so mediocre?

the fact....

...that its crushingly mediocre perhaps?

or possibly

it's air of crushing mediocrity

There isnt

any way that the foals album is mediocre, and the fact you havent actually said why confirms that. Thank You.

Ahahahahah

So as far as you're concerned Foals can't be criticised but MBV are fair game?

I listened to it about 6 times

wrote a review and I haven't listened to it since.

"crushingly mediocre" indeed.

yes this

I find it easy to listen to though.

I spent years

waiting for Generation Terrorists to get good...

yeah

with all those pretentious quotes on the sleeve you just wanted it to be good

if something

is jank it won't last more than five minutes. I never got that whole philosophy of 'giving something time' or 'letting something sink in'...

GT

is amazingly good. brilliant songs. terrible production mind. and a bit long. Still amazing though.

the stone roses

I gave it my best I really did

Nirvana

...all albums...years I won't get back

Radiohead

Would have to agree and also Nickleback

why would you

give any time to Nickelback? Neon Bible for me

Metallica

Megadeth
Skid Row
Thunder
Aerosmith
Guns n Roses

er....all heavy metal.

Nirvana

You don't like Nirvana? Why?

That is very very spooky ...

I was clearing some stuff out at the weekend and I came across said album. I bought it for a quid at a charity shop about a year ago and can't quite bring myself to play it. I think its the title of the first track that puts me off. If anyone wants it then PM me.

I've done this a lot with albums by bands I like in the hope that I will eventually get to like the album. I;m afraid Pocket Revolution by dEUS comes into this category, as does The Madness by Madness (don't ask, really.) Oh, and a Snow Patrol album that my mate went on and on about and I played 6 tracks off of - that was far too much time, trust me.

any album by sonic youth.

OVER OVER RATED.

Know Your Enemy

isn't a great album by any means, but it's a fascinating one. I know it's been said before, but it's the Manics' Sandinista!

My choices? Erm, I play CSS and New Young Pony Club's debut albums far too much... but for laughs at the terrible lyrics more than anything else. Also, the nagging sense of "Nnnggg.. These COULD be great bands! They really COULD!"

NYPC album is great

although I don't pay much attention to lyrics they're not bad in a numbskull electropop kinda way.

Agreed about Antedotes

Although the crushing mediocrity may have something to do with production. Nothing seems to stand out and it lacks the energy and excitement of the earlier recordings and demos, I think.

Also who ever thought, 'I know what I love about foals, the horns! lets have more horns!'

Alt

I adore Antidotes and don't think it's either crushing or mediocre. Mostly because I don't think "crushingly good fun" works quite as well as "pimms o'clock" as a phrase.

Pet Sounds

Yeah I can sympathise it revolutionized record production and all that over shit I don't care about, but bar two songs it's awful. Really fucking awful. The amount of time people have wasted listening to this album convincing themselves of it's genius is just a bow to how stupid some people really are.

oh, and everything the Smiths have ever released.

^ so wrong

give it some more time|

Wow.

Are the two songs God Only Knows and Wouldn't It Be Nice? Because I Know There's An Answer is easily as good.

weezer

make believe

Fuck Buttons

I tried, oh God I tried

ditto

i really want to like them

everything i ever heard about on DiS

nah jokes, i don't listen to any of that stuff

The Tears- Here Come The Tears

Desperate to see Butler and Anderson make an all singing all dancing fabulous comeback...to be fair it had a couple of decent songs on it but overall it was a bit of a flop, didn't stop me deciding to see them over Foo Fighters at Leeds 05 though!

think

it's a massively underrated album.

Beck - Midnite Vultures

I listened to a lot.

Then I realised it was utter bollocks and that I'd have might as well bought Sign o the Times (or another decent Prince album) instead....

CSS

And I think the first CSS album is a bit lightweight too.

Well, what's stopping you?

Then you'll have a great Prince album AND a great Prince pastiche album. And hopefully you'll also get a sense of humour, too.

Midnight Vultures is fantastic, and I remember the live performances of that album tour as the best Beck ever did. Frenetic, hilarious, funky and brilliant.

Weezer

and Make Believe.
The day blue and pinkerton were overshadowed by ear-aching atrocity.

Colplay - x&y

Dont ask.

Fucking Fuck Buttons

always put it on at work untile everybody leaves

The Death In Vegas Fabriclive

I so much wanted it to be excellent - must've tried four or four times.
I may try again now, but from memory it's just basically bland techno. I was expecting the highest calibre of electro :(

that los campesinos album

though i only gave it five listens, i still felt like i was trying to like it and in the end i
gave
up

I enjoyed Protest The Hero

far too much at the start of the summer, considering how cheesy it is.

second

babyshambles one

both Neutral Milk Hotel albums.

CONTROVERSIAL

i gave aeroplane

a lot of time, but it hasn't clicked with me yet...

know your enemy is turd

and ive put so much effort into liking it its just annoying that i didnt get anything back

St. Anger

By Metallica - i've probably listened to it more than master of puppets. even tho i no its terrible.

Jandek - modern dances

It seems like exactly the kind of thing I SHOULD like and every time I put it on I think 'this'll click soon and I'll bask in its genius' but dear God.... it's. just. awful.

Imagine our Love - Lavender Diamond

What was I thinking? It's absolutely dreadful but I kept listening trying to convince myself it was otherwise.

The Psychedelic Horseshit one

I tried desperately to recognise the artistic merit in a piece where television static appears to be their inspiration. I believed understanding and revering an incoherent carcophony of noise would elevate my taste above that of my peers.

Yet no. It does not. I realise that I would use the linear notes to wipe my a-little-too-furry arse after a two foot stool, which handily sums up my sentiments on the record.

I tried.

come on

it's amazing. from start to finish. There is no artistic merit, that's what makes it true art.
