They might let you in for some kitty patting.
Plus they might take on volentears just to play with kittens for a few hours a week. My ex did this and loved it.

I had a kitten in my house until about a week ago
my housemate moved out and took the little cutie with him.

and what was even cuter was if I was in the kitchen, he would run about at my feet, I would then move to go out the kitchen and he would run ahead into the lounge, when I walked past the lounge he would be hiding behind the door and would pounce out as if to give me a fright. You couldn't help but pick him up for a snuggle it was that cute!
