Another reason why americans annoy me

First they have their own 'English' dictionary, because 'Color' shouldn't have a 'u' in it. Then they take brilliant British shows and ruin them with their stupid slapstick ways - like The Office. Now they go and do this:

They have messed with the Gok. This has upset me. And American women should keep their clothes on.

Facist

Facist.

1. Language is allusive - To americans colour shouldn't have a U in it

2. The american office is very good
3. How to look good naked will always contain naked people
4. don't be an americanaphile

^^^^

americanaPHOBE

Big time!

I am proud to admit it!

proud?

yes 'proud'

with a 'u'

you're trying to be Stealthy

with your well constructed post.

Bad call on the Office i'm afraid...

the US version is possibly superior to ours. SORRY, IT JUST HAD TO BE SAID.

^^

certainly funnier

I'd agree

different style of humour though. I prefer the American version overall

and I hate Ricky Gervais

with a passion.

Yeah

You could call it 'The We Prefer Cheap Unfunny Miss-The-Point Copies Club' lool

:)

lol i showed them eh

funny times :D

Gervais is amazingly irritating

Its nice to have people agree with you, isn't it?

It's not worth it

They probably like Frasier and Family guy too.

Family Guy sucks

Frasier is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time

Agreed.

I think that with the additional episodes etc of the US version, you get to know a lot more about the other office staff. And Steve Carrell is brilliant as Michael Scott.
It took a while for me to be a convert as I loved the original, but it won me over.

you see I dislike Steve Carrell in general!

And I prefer British dry humour - it just works better with the accent

I was cheery and then I saw that

I love Gok. Carson has nothing on him!

Carson's the best Question of Sport

team captain this side of Bill Beaumont.

america is my favourite country

language is meant to be malleable. their spellings were made easier for the millions of people learning english as a new language.

...

Don't be silly. Of course their language is changed. German, French, Spanish- most new words in these languages come from English. I'm not saying it's a good thing, but you shouldn't make a half baked argument about the Americans when other countries are far worse at absorbing foreign words and altering spellings.

not to mention French is / was officially regulated

the great thing about English is it's totally fluid and organic. hence having larger vocabulary than any other language.

oh, and god knows how many French-origin words there are in English, which were Anglicises

i would also imagine

there are differences between French spoken in Africa and Europe and North America..

how annoying!

Americans are better than us

get over it

The Americans have good and bad points as a race

just the same as any other country, including here.

...

If we brits didnt have our steadfast snobishness and superiority over different nationalities, we would probably have to sit in a corner and die/ take it out on animals/ children.

Becoming visibly annoyed with Americans

is a very bad way to belittle/tease them.

and very un-British. You should know this.

RETARDO THREAD ALERT

and you always seemed like such a nice poster. FOR SHAME.

I am nice.

I was having a bit of a rant because I love Gok and this was horrid.
It doesn't make me a bad person.

i disagree

Freedom of speech.

I am quiet in my right to rant.

quiet?

it was just pretty ironic

and made sense like that. also: you smell bad.

*quite

Oh this is all going so wrong.
I'll get my coat.

you have a right to rant, sure

but it still makes you look pretty stupid.

Having an opinio makes me look stupid

now there's an argument

*opinion

wello saying that an entire nation of people annoy you

because they spell words slightly differently is a bit stupid, isn't it?

entirely this.

They annoy me because of their voices

I like every voice and language in the world except for theirs. That's fair enough isn't it? Actually the coldness that they display so confidently is what annoys me- nothing is based on real emotion and is just people going through the motions. American artists are great though, and musicians etc.

Actually the coldness that they display so confidently is what annoys me- nothing is based on real e

have you actually been to the States? a generalisation i know, but mainly a warm people i'd say

genuinely warm

or just nice to everyone as that is how they've learnt to be successful? I like a discerning person that makes a choice over who they'll be kind to.

i like people who are kind

unless they have a reason not to be

ALL AMERICANS TALK WITH ONE ACCENT

JUST LIKE THE ENGLISH

Actually hang on a minute

don't you dare get up on your high and mighty american horse, last time I checked the Americans can't stand the canadians

what on earth are you talking about?

you're saying that it's ok to hate a nation's people because there's a stereotype that they make jokes about another nation's stereotypes?

Please reread I didn't say I hated the Americans

I said they annoy me.
Big difference.

ok then

you're saying that you find a nation's people annoying because there's a stereotype that they make jokes about another nation's stereotypes?

What? No!

I find it annoying that Americans will take a British TV show - like 'How to look good naked' and replace one of my favourite British TV host with an American host - what's wrong with using Gok Wang? I then said it annoys me that the America decided to change the English dictionary with their own and then misspell words like colour. I then pointed out that Americans who get all uppity because I mention this fact and then start screaming that I am a fascist because of my opinion should relook at themselves and their equally fascist views against the Canadians (for example)

and seriously

you're assuming that all americans take the piss out of canada? you actually scare me quite a lot

let's tell alley she's a 'fascist' because she hates canadians

though i doubt she actually does - but then again she's american so she MUST do!

i'm not american

and if i was, why would you assume i am anti-canadian. what a silly thing to say and stupid way of thinking. you're saying it's okay to tar all of one nationality with the same brush, because some of them may hold similar views about other nationalities? okay...

and "what's wrong with gok wan"??

maybe he's got other things to do? maybe the american tv executive know their audiences better than you do and think that this guy, whoever he is, would make the show more popular?

But! But!

We have Tyra et al presenting Britain's Next Top Model, and Heidi for Project Catwalk.

(we don't)

AND THIS ONE TIME,

THEY SHOT THEIR MUSKETS AT BRITISH SOLDIERS AND TALKED BAD ABOUT THE KIIIIIIIIIIIIING

:D

I have a another list for that

hear hear

I agree with you mostly and, because I like you, I'll even overlook that the american office is not the worst example of an american remake (although the english version is far superior, they've actually made a reasonable attempt i think....considering their track history)

Nikita/assasin was perhaps one of the worst american attempts at a remake

(I havnt dared to peek at get carter or the wicker man

SRSLY

the remake of the wicker man is SO BAD, it's absolutely amazing
watch this http://youtube.com/watch?v=e6i2WRreARo

i watched this the other day

its almost a B movie its so bad
but its kind of appealing in a wierd its shit kind of way
definition of a B movie, really

I agree that although it's awful

there is something about that makes it just about bearable. The original is one of my favourite films and I didn't go into the remake expecting much.

At a glance, I keep thinking your username is Harold & Kumar btw.

WOW

I'm going to download the whole thing

i think had they gone through with the american version of "spaced",

the british would hate us americans even more than ever before.

last i heard

that was off

i have changed my mind

this thread is spectacular.

actuaLOL highlight: http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/3704653#r3704800 SOLID GLOLD COMEDY!

PROD

Boston Tea Party wut?!

With a 'u', 'cause that's how we spell it here.

I used to hate Americans

Then I realised British people are just as bad, if not worse.

We are all guilty

in the eyes of the Lord anyway

COULD I JUST POINT OUT

that the American way of spelling was common in Britain in the 17th century (although not standard as there was no standardisation then) and so if anything, it is the yanks who use correct English and we added U's into words like 'colour' to reflect the 'sophisticated' Frenchies.
