Swells wades in to Lydongate

This just had us all in the office giggling, thought some of you might enjoy it http://www.thequietus.com/articles/lydongate

  • The thing is with swells for me

Is that he's funny for half of what he writes, but then it gets a bit repetitive and not funny.

  • Terrible.

  • Did you really find it funny ?

I dunno, maybe its me, I didn't laugh once reading that.

  • how much

did he get paid for that?

  • that was awful

  • I thought it was funny

jesus lighten up you miserable twats

  • He's about as funny as Prole

    • Don't be daft

He's nowhere near as funny as Prole.

  • Morrissey

Swells is obsessed by him. Can he write an article without mentioning him?

    • ^This

Also, given his recent form, I wouldn't be surprised if he took them to court over that article.

  • That was really disappointing

    Even for Swells.

  • Is this article

conclusive proof that Swells just has generic racism pieces primed and ready to go whenever a race-related story crops up?

    Dull, unfunny, repetitive, largely pointless.

  • Getting down to the bottom

and then seeing that advert was well worth it for me.

  • That was verbose and boring.

The internet's main flaw is that it gives piss-poor journalists an undeserved pedestal.

    • yuh

except that swells has been one of the most famous music journalists in the country since long before the internet

  • swells is the worse person in history

i hope he comes down with consumption

  • Who the hell is this Swells fellow?

    • ex NME journo

basically ruined The Bluetones career by 'outing' Mark Morris as a racist, despite basically no evidence - http://www.bluetones.org.uk/interviews/2000/nme_19_02_00.html

      • i'm glad most publications

have stopped trying to make celebrities out of their journalists. "one top Rottweiler", CRINGE. when mark beaumont retires it will be a good day for the universe

      • ...

No-one of any consequence read NME back then. The Bluetones' career was ruined because they were wet indie shite.

      • Outed him?

"Mark's a good bloke and I sincerely doubt he has a single racist bone in his body."

Sounds like the worst outing in history.

  • that was shit.

    what is his point?
or is there no point? is that the point?

  • oh no

the comments link back to this thread

quick, say something witty and intelligent like erm...

    http://tinyurl.com/5d7t6e

oh no, what have I become
    *wet's Morrissey bedspread*

  • urgh that's a total cringe

    • hello, FNG here!

So what's the deal here then? We're all about 12 and a bit slow on the uptake?

      • I'm 37 and might be a bit slow

        and totally french.
Can't believe I read that in full...
A few minutes of my life gone...

      • You rubbish man

go and write something interesting instead of getting arsey.

      • is this actually steven wells?

if it is, this is embarrassing

      • I REALLY REALLY LIKED YOUR ARTICLE STEVE

PLEASE DON'T MOCK ME ON THE INTERNET

        • What are you, twelve?

Why are there only 3 types of music journalism these days? It's either a wanky "best band since foals" type review, a really badly written straight down the line "the guitar sounds good on this album, as do the drums. 7/10" type one or a negative review full of "hilarious" put downs and terrible similies connoting things to hitler and saying stupid stuff like "this band are so shit that..."?

          • I REALLY REALLY AGREE WITH YOU YES_

PLEASE DON'T MOCK ME ON THE INTERNET

            • Feel my wrath

              YOU ARE TWELVE

          • i don't think it's him anyway

  • Horrendous

as was the Micah P Hinson review..

  • jesus that was bad..

i used to enjoy the nme back when steven wells edited the letters pages, but that was just shite.

    • lol wells

has made mention of this thread in his comments

imo I think he's overestimated how much people give a toss about Lydon

that kind of writing works better with different public personas

  • Good ol' Swells...

Good to have 'im back... NME certainly hasn't been the same since his axing post positive articles for Daphne & Celeste/Steps etc.
