Algernon Cadwallader

Who else has heard this band? Dumb name but really really good band in my opinion. What does everyone else think?

  • Didn't like them

  • RUBBISH RUBBISH

Kinsella rip off crap that lacks any of the beauty of Cap'N Jazz. There's a couple of shitty UK bands doing it now too. Where are the external influences? Sounding EXACTLY like your favourite record is pretty lame. At least throw some kind of personal take into it.

    • I really like them.

I listened to them a lot today. Good stuff.

    • This is why i don't like them

      Thanks.

    • I see where you're coming from

but I reckon this is mostly the singer's voice, if he sung a wee bit different I don't think people'd think it was such a rip off.

      • Oh come on

Even the song titles. It's just boring pastiche of something that's been done so much better. Much as I love Cap'n Jazz, I would be ashamed to produce such a brazen rip off.

        • I guess we just have to agree to disagree

I get where you're coming from, and there is a strong kinsella influenced sound in there, but I think they are a lot more than just derivitive personally.

          • How so?

In that they sound exactly the same, he pretends to have the same singing voice, he rips off the song titles etc etc? There's no agreeing or disgreeing. I'm afraid you're wrong! They are 100 percent pastiche.

            • He isn't wrong

The vocal is very similar but the music is much less cacophonic.

    • Do you like Maps & Atlases?

I believe them to be a very special band who wipe the floor with all these wannabeez.

  • Better than Cap'n Jazz

    • ^

      lol

i do like the album, but it's the most blatant kinsella rip off i've ever heard (that includes this town needs guns)

      • Why I 'oughta

        ;-P

      • Does it matter though?

The songs are ZO GOOD! I defy anyone not to want to party when Look Down or Motivational Song is on.

        • Yeh

I think it does, cos I don't think it's good for that very reason. I don't see any beauty in pastiche.

          • Fair do's

I honestly think you're missing out though, they provide me with some good pump-ups

  • I love this band

and yes, they do sound quite a bit like Cap'n Jazz.

  • LP now available:

  • Better than Cap n Jazz

Better than MOST of the Kinsella stuff.

I don't need some chump telling me "oomghg THYR SO RUBBISH. THEY JUST SOUND LIKE CAPNJAZZ BLAH BLAH."

Take a hike and suck it up. You're boring.

(they also sound a lot less like c'nj than people make out.)

    • You're

      very stupid.

      • No.

        You are.

SEE! EVEN I CAN PLAY THIS GAME!

        • It's not better than any

of the Kinsella stuff and it's boring, watered down pastiche.

You're stupidest, turn around touch the ground, bagsy no backs.

          • It's better than a lot

of the kinsella stuff, it's not boring, it's not watered down pastiche.

            Anyone noticing a trend here?

            • Yes

Only it blatantly is, so what you're joking about/saying holds no weight.

              • holds no weight where?

With you? Why on earth would i care if it 'held weight' with you?

                • Why would it hold weight with me?

You're posting on a public forum.

                • You obviously care

                  or you wouldn't respond.

It sounds like them, the vocals are a carbon copy rip off of a very very distinctive voice and they try to write words and song titles like them.

                  It's pastiche.

You can't argue with a definition. They conform to the definition.

I also think it's a rather shit pastiche.

                  • I understand your point,

But I think a band like this stands out so much as it's not a style that has been heavily emulated. I find it funny that there are seemingly endless rounds of say, gruff punk, hardcore or screamo bands and noone bats an eyelid (not saying you do, just an example), and yet a load of people shout CAP'N JAZZ as soon as they hear Algernon as though it's a negative thing.

On the other hand, I agree that the level of pastiche that this band stoops to is pretty funny, but it's just so that I like it. Sorry.

                  • The only obstacle in the way of arguing with a definition

                    is grammatical.

And seriously, the music doesn't really sound all that much like Cap'n Jazz. Much more tapping, much less cacophonic, much neater etc. The vocals are very similar though

                    • NEGATIVE

That's the recordings being more polished by virtue of the fact that they were made years and years later.

                      • You're right

More polished production does equal more tapping.

  • just ordered one of these

thanks for the heads-up matt. there's not many for sale in europe (and the dude is really nice) so act fast!

    • Yep

      Remi's a good guy!

      • remi is awesome.

he always reminds me of ratatouille now <3

        • Whoever he is

Is inflicting rubbish on silly kids.

          • stop being so coy

do you like this band or not?

            • Their last ten posts are in a thread about this band

              Probably a little keen.

          • Christ

this band exist, get over it.

  • the album's really good

sure it sounds like Cap'n Jazz and god knows how many other Kinsella bands but who actually cares when it's this much fun?
