Doesn't that just depend how loud you put your speakers up?
If so, Dillinger Escape Plan's 'Calculating Infinity' always makes me turn up the speakers to 111.
i think he means live.
hey johnny, do you mean bands that ear-shattering live?
GUITAR WOLF
'Jet Generation'
^
This has a very very loud intro.
Yes!
Rumoured to be the loudest CD ever recorded.
but I never understand how a CD can be loud
it all depends on the volume I play it. However Jet Generation does begin on a rather disturbing shrill piece of feedback
sister ray
i mean bands that do no good for your ears whatever volume you choose to listen to them
live as well. i had tinnitus for 3 days after mbv. i haven't seen jamc or the velvets but i'm sure they blew a lot of ear drums
Manowar
Multiple times world's loudest band - they once even broke the record after Guiness spotted recording it because they thought it was encouraging unhealthy behaviour.
also
Motorhead
MANOWAR!

After supersonic
I'd probably say Gravetemple
Mono
Melt-Banana
Asva
Kikuri
Black Sun
Gravetemple
Prestidigitators
Romance
a place to bury strangers
hurt my ears when I saw them, it was annoying.
I would love to see My Bloody Valentine they are my hero's... kinda.
I have it on good aurthoritie that a good dubstep night will blow your mind with the bass. I mean sure those rock bands will fuck you up with some hardcore guitar frequencys. But you aint felt nothing yet untill you get base all the way thru you at a massive volume. Like real sub base.
Jarssic 5 did a thing at leeds fest with just pure sub base on the main stag and I sware I neary fell over an people where lookin ill it was awsome. Cut Chemist you legend.
ever been to Subdub?
SubDeezy
Fo sheezy!
nope
where dat at?
I don't get to enough base events as I live in rural NY......
..... North Yorkshire
It's the big Dubstep/Dub night in Leeds
It's not on over the summer, but you should definitley go one day!
yup
it's some heavy shit
yo douche
if ya like ya basey shit dubstep style I have a mix I can give ya link to.
thanks but no thanks bud
i'm kind of on a "no downloading/buying music" tip at the moment
cool man
:)
I really should
Ahhh yeah it will be the sub fm lot Ramadanman and the Ruffage ssession.
I love them guys.
There is one in York next month I have sent them my mix to have a listen to, and they gave me a shout out on their radio show the other night and asked me to come down. They do stuff with the Leeds pose.
Plastic people had some Loud moments...
FWD>>
yeah thats 'the' dubstep night in all the land
Ah yes
The old University of Dub nights at the Brixton Recreation Centre were always cell/soul-shaking/destroying in terms of bass. It would fuck up your breathing if you stayed in there too long. I was fairly convinced that it was going to turn the foundations of the place into jelly.
65daysofstatic.
Thank god for my earplugs.
ive not seen them..
but i reckon Lightning Bolt has to be in there..
asva
yus
Swans are supposed to have held
the 'world's loudest band' record- apparently people vomited at their gigs- Merzow tries to achieve the same effect too.
*Merzbow
---
he's pretty loud...
but not the loudest
Hate to the point out the obvious
but Mogwai wins this thread pretty much hands down.
nah
they are not ear destroying in the same way that say mbv, asva or gravetemple are.
they are pretty loud though
Swans
at the Town & Country. Rumour was that they'd bought in their own PA. Staggeringly loud - even the music between bands was driving people into the foyer, and even then you had to shout to make yourself heard.
Bonecrushing was the only word when Swans came on.
Didn't see anyone puke though.
Rosetta
Ear-splittingly loud, and suffocatingly atmospheric. Also EW's 'Dopethrone'; the bass tone is absolutely terrifying!
SWANS
Cochlea damage in both ears, permanent ringing, no hearing loss thankfully. My clothing was fluttering.
Botch?
John Woo, oh yeah.
--
MUSE
are really loud live.
That is all.
Its hard to compare
my experiences now of seeing MBV (who were probably the loudest live band I've seen), Sunn, etc etc, with bands I saw when I was young but I do remember a fairly lame indie/punk band, Compulsion being crushingly loud. A friend of mine went to hospital after because his ear bled and had screaming tinnitus for months. He was told never to see a live band ever again.
Fuckin' hell.
Sad in many ways, if they were the last band he ever saw live.
2mnaydjs at Koko was just silly
TURN IT DOWN!
I'm sure gigs used to be louder
I mean generally, I'm sure there's still plenty of gigs that turn it up to 11. I'm talking about early-mid 90s here. I don't think that's a bad thing by the way.
Judas Priest
loud...very loud live
a friend of mine said
she had ringing in her ears for a few days after seeing AIDS wolf.
i don't like it when it's too loud because YOU CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING APART FROM KKRKRKFNHSJSKIGHHJISSSSHH.
What the fuck's the point?
Music isn't meant to hurt.
I agree
I love loud music but there is a limit I mean base frequencys will shake you to shit and not hurt ya ears. But the higher frequncy stuff just hurts for the sake of it.
I wouldn;t moan if it was My Bloody Valentine mind.... but then you don't see them every day.
I wana keep my ears for more music in da future
Gallows
= loudest band i've seen.
I saw
AFX at Herbal once. That was pretty disgustingly loud. Unfortunately it was a "repulsion" set too.
hahahah
Ahpex is a fucker
I saw Xiu Xiu a few weeks ago
and there was an amp problem thingy which kept screeching... I swear to god it was like having a hot poker going thru my ears. We had to leave.
I saw My Bloody Valentine
at the Roundhouse and it wasn't that loud.
Loudest band I have seen was Motorhead, I had to lie on the floor to avoid the noise
motorhead are easily the loudest band ive seen
way louder than converge or down or any postrock - and its been in real big venues everytime so they must've been even louder.
last time when clutch supported my legs felt numb as i tried to walk out at the end.
clutch were pretty loud too.
GALLOWS
ARE NME MAJOR LABEL PUNXXXXXXXX WOWWW. REALLY BACKS UP HOW ANTI ESTABLISHMENT THEY ACT.
MANOWAR IS THE LOUDEST BAND EVER. FACT.
OTHER BANDS PLAY, MANOWAR KILLS.
This is stupid
Hurts your ears whatever volume you listen to them? What the fuck are you talking about?
Gee if thats the criteria i guess id have to nominate any fucking awful band, um bright eyes shall we say? yeah listening to them certainly is a pretty painful experience.
saw Flipper live ages ago
they hurt my ears and made me feel physically sick afterwards.
Of today's bands TODD & Part Chimp are probably the loudest I've seen / heard.
I've read stuff about Blue Cheer being the loudest band ever,
but I don't know how much of it is mythologizing. There are stories of them being too loud to be recorded in a studio, so they had to do the sessions at the end of a pier. Apparently ships 12 miles away could hear them.
They caused so much vibration when they played they had to nail the drumkit to the floor, and once they had to stop playing because the walls of the venue were cracking due to the vibration. Insane.
yeah that all does like a lie
* sound like
80's Matchbox = Tinnitus
asva
my bloody valentine
om
sunnO)))
they are cowards/sontaraan experiment (more to do with the ridiculously small venue though)
wolf eyes
when motorhead played at vale park (HEAVY METAL HOLOCAUST!!!!) in the early 80's my parents could hear it from their house four miles away.
LOUD!!!!!
Part Chimp (anytime!!!)
Mogwai (in 2002)
Melvins (with Cameron Jamie)
Jesus Lizard (please reform)
Botch (camden!!!)
Earth (eart2 live)
That I have seen:
Mogwai
Isis
Sunn O)))
No Age were surprisingly earsplitting as well.
At Supersonic right
the big stage turned every band on it into massively loud pain merchants. I think Asva were the loudest.
My Bloody Valentine were actually as loud as everyone on the internet said they were!
The Rapture at the Scala
around the time of House of Jealous Lovers. So loud someone threw a full can of beer at the sound man who happened to be one James Murphy.
Louder than Motorhead, MBV, Jesus and Mary Chain, Metallica, Sepultura and many other very loud bands I've seen.
wolf eyes
and surprisingly, animal collective. Last time i saw them i felt very sorry for anyone without earplugs, the bass was MEGA.
