It's probibly some ambient electronic stuff like Murcof or GAS which is closer alot closer. They use orchestral instrumentation and digtial stuff to put it in a whole new very modern context.
i guess there is a lot of crossover
especially from artists such as philly glass, but it's also often more avent garde, and as such a direct progression, rather than comparable to older classical music of say the barroque era
there is alot of classical influence
in most music I would think so Metal definatly has some of that goin on in it.
no no no.
doesnt electronica pre-date Metal??? hmmm
yeah its older just
Ive decided
my comment was pointless.
get back to your cubic balls
not you again
actually i did have a point. Electronica you could argue dates back to early 20th Century, a good 60 years or so before Metal and therefore should be discounted as a modern genre. So there.
Metal IS closest to classical
Country? no
Jazz? no
Blues? no
Hip Hop? maybe
I went to a "Residents Play Wormwood" show which was The Residents performing their album "Wormwood" (curious stories from The Bible) and I was really struck by The Residents use of "Metal Music and Metal Themes" to tell "Bible Stories". I remember thinking hey, The Bible really is so "Metal" and I think that same correlation can be made with classical and metal- definitely.
classical music isn't a genre
There's some Romantic virtuoso music which has a lot in common with some virtuosic guitar playing (Paganini, Liszt, etc), but then, there's some late-Romantic impressionistic music which is more like ambient electronica (Debussy, some Ravel), some late Classical lieder which isn't massively far from angst-ridden song-based indie, etc.
