So... who's in? Who's out? Who'll bat? Who'll bowl? Should Colly be getting the wobbles?

Post endless conjecture here and then watch it fucking rain.

Ambrose at 6?

I'm absolutely shitting it.

An open letter to Michael Vaughn

Dear Michael,

You've always been my favourite batsman to watch. I think you are so elegant with your cover driven fours. Please get some runs in this test. Please.

Kthnkxbye

MrSs

I'm going to make a prediction

He's going to make a quick 30/40 odd looking as elegant as shiny shoes before getting bowled through the gate / caught in the deep hooking.

Nah

The calls for him to be dropped aren't yet loud enough to warrant him getting any runs, or even looking good. Give it another couple of tests then he'll probably get a big ton in a dead rubber.

Great captain though - maybe move him down to 6. He could be the new Mike Brearley.

i reckon he'll get a duck

oh....hang on

i won't really get to

watch any of this test, being at Truck. So I don't mind if it rains a lot.

Ambrose at 6 is ridiculous though. I'd rather have Stuart Broad at 6!

I won't be able to follow any of it today either

this afternoon the whole school troops down to a big hall place to hold a memorial service for our dead principal. I think if I sneak a longwave radio in that might be seen as being bad form.

i dunno

was he a cricket fan?

Apparently not

shame

Sometimes a shift in position can gave a huge effect on a batsman's performance

It may be Ambrose feels more responsibility to get runs at six and does well. Certainly, I think it's better than Flintoff 6, Ambrose 7 would be.

If we're

300-4 when Ambrose comes in then fine. I'll worry if we're 60-4 though.

He's already shown he can handle test cricket

It wasn't that long ago he got a first class double hundred. He's a better batsman than is being made out at the moment. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets a score this test.

I hope so

as I really like the guy. As you said up ^^^^ somewhere, better him at 6 than Flintoff.

I'm concerned like some of you are

about Ambrose at 6. I like him but he needs more time, assuming Flintoff is batting at 7 we could be virtually all out after 5 wickets.

I find him quite hard to forget

his piercing eyes and floppy hair haunt me in my dreams.

you love it really

him running down a beach, his hair blowing in the wind.

Stop it!

I won't be able to sleep tonight.

I won't be able to see by the morning...

Pattinson's playing

Collingwood and Sidebottom out.

WHAT?

source please.

More info on Pattinson pls

I know very little about him.

He's Australian

^ this

i'm so confused and scared.

Some info on Pattinson

He's not Tremlett
He's not Hoggard
He's not Simon Jones
He's not Harmison (not that this is necessarily a bad thing)

How the bloody hell did he jump ahead of those four??????

FOR FUCK'S SAKE

Truly amazing

He's never played in England before this season. I think this will turn out to be some sort of practical joke by the England selectors. Why isn't Simon Jones playing?

or Hoggard?

Hoggard at headingley is generally pretty awesome

i've just read that article on CricInfo

apparently it's his home ground and he's perfect for the swinging conditions if it's overcast.

But but but

Hoggard is good for swing in the right conditions.

He's been England's best bowler in many tests over the last few years and he's been dropped and then totally overlooked after one lacklustre seried.

Jesus. I would personally be very happy to never see HArmison bowl for England ever again, I've had my heart broken too many times, but surely Hoggard deserves another go?

I get it

Hoggard, Simon Jones, Tremlet and Harmison were all caught by David Graveney having a wild fast bowlers' sex orgy with Mrs Graveney.

HAR HAR HAR

OH.

We've been put in.

Slight delay cos of a little bit of rain. I reckon 49-1 at lunch.

Plenty of movement for Steyn

Not much for Ntini so far.

Pattinson is coming in at 11

bearing in mind he has some stiff competition this does not fill me full of confidence for our tail.

don't worry

Fred will make a swashbuckling comeback triple century, with Jimmy Anderson picking up a maiden ton as well.

Steyn getting outswing and bowling full

to Vaughan on 0? What could go wrong?

PING!

Predictable.

aren't you excited about Freddy Pal?

KP will see us through this

These aren't really conditions

Flintoff tends to excel in as a batsman.

I'm just hoping

he'll start pinging it about, ala Beefy in 81

AGAIN?

FFS!

Steyn to Vaughan this series

5 balls, 2 runs, 2 wickets

I know you forget how amazing it is sometimes,

because it happens so often, but to pick up a ball from off-stump and cream it through mid-wicket for four to get off the mark... incredible.

the guy's just plain daft

but i think he'll get 24 today.

sorry KP

I love it when he's in this

kind of mood. Just the statement of intent.. Brilliant.

:(

that's the end of Strauss

for fuck's sake England

AB deVilliers is an utter cuntgerbil

Claiming a catch off Strauss where the world and his wife would see he'd grounded it.

Also the Cook decision was a shocker. Much as I love Billy that was bad.

oh for f**k sake

that's 2 of our 3 wickets that shouldn't have been given. de Villiers is a complete wanker if he did that, i agree.

wait

did he claim it but it wasn't given?

No, it was referred

but the very fact that he claimed it when he knew full well he'd grounded it makes him the cunt he is.

oh yeah, he's still a cunt

it would've just made me more angry if we'd lost a wicket because of it.

it wasn't given

it just nearly was, strauss was caught behind a couple of overs later

Where is snow_brigade?

My dad is at Headingley right NOW.

Shit

:(

Bell & Pietersen are really taking the game to them

Ntini's getting a mauling at present by the looks of things.

I actually feel a bit sick now

Odds on my tickets for Sunday being refunded?

don't be silly

it'll go at least 4 days. SA will struggle to make runs and the weather may play a part.

Hindsight being wonderful

and all that. Why did Flintoff just not replace Sidebottom and bat at 8?

Collingwood, Ambrose, Flintoff, Broad looks an awful lot stronger than Ambrose, Flintoff, Broad, Anderson as a lower middle order.

this is what i would've done

and this isn't just hindsight.

2 and a half bowlers?

Great captaincy.

I am not counting Pattinson and Fred is only worth a half for now.

anyone want to bet

that broad makes more than ambrose did?

I'll bet that Broad

top scores.

Now is your hour Ian

The 199 was great, but this is it. Show us what you're made of. Write yourself into history.

I believe in you.

Fuck it

they're all shit, my comments make no difference

In the absence of snow_brigade

I'd just like to say I fully expect Jimmy Anderson to come up trumps and take 9-24 as we bowl South Africa out for 94 before close of play.

oh dear :(

Broad gone as well

tremendous, this

Don't Worry

Jimmy's swinging the bat! Everything will be fine!

according to guardian obo

J M Anderson not out 8 balls 10 runs 5 fours

he might be swinging the bat but even so, i thik 5 fours is a tad excessive

this sucks

why are we batting so stupidly agressively, by looking at the score it seems as though it's a one-day innings gone a little wrong.

^

I reckon it's cos Fred's back- everyone is going hell for leather so as not to be shown up. And we don't have anyone who can anchor an innings (like Graham Thorpe used to, or Chanderpaul does for windies).

He doesn't though

His success largely comes when the conditions are in his favour. Collingwood was the man who used to really get stuck in and not give his wicket away when everyone else was giving theirs away (in the Thorpe mould). Now Broad's about the only one who does.

He CAN

but he don't do it enough- today was another attractive 20 odd, out chasing a wide one while well set. Sigh.

it's true

he's just not got around to it yet. but he will. he *will* be our ponting.

We're not

The fields are just very aggressive, which means the score moves quickly.

Monty's out

would you credit it?

all done

england are going to have to bowl well to stay in this against that batting attack...

holy hell!!

amla caught by vaughan, but he's called back. then he's caught behind next ball and bowden calls no ball to avoid having to answer the appeal.

losing all respect fot him as an umpire...
