Carling - Is it Really that bad?

I'm currently sampling some, and I must say I'm very partial to it. While I admit its main appeal is that its taste reminds me of being out or at festivals, I can't feel the hatred for it.

I've tried many-a-beer, too. We have a special bar in Burnley that serves thousands of continental beers. I would never choose Carling from their library of wonders, but I don't begrudge drinking it at any other beverage vendor.

Is it REALLY that bad? REALLY?

  • Yes

  • it's horrible

  • No

    I quite like it.

  • yes

  • Yes

    Cuntjuice

  • i'm gonna start drinking beer.

where should i start? well i mean what brand is good to start with?

  • Its pretty horrible

and I usually only end up ever drinking it at bars with no other selection, which usually means its ridiculously overpriced. So yeah. Carling is only ever really associated with bad times for me.

  • PS

I am actually only after yes/nos. I just require a basic result. Ta x

  • its shit

insipid tasting, a beer for people who like food and drink to taste of nothing.

    • What's your tipple?

      Sambuca?

      • i dont drink at the moment

but i just used to drink shit lager, because most of the places i go thats all you get to choose from.

and im a cheapskate. but i would never stoop as low as carling

  • yes

one of these things that you dont notice so much whence already drunk though

  • It's really horrible

  • no

    but still pretty horrible

  • it's pretty awful

but low prices and low funds have led me to condition myself to be able to drink it without wincing. See also: carlsberg

  • It's fucking pisswater.

  • It's not awful

It is still beer, however it is far from great

    • ....yeah, and getting tossed off by a panda is still sex, right?

      Oh.

      • Beggars cant be choosers

        Beer or no beer?
Panda sex or no panda sex?

        YOU decide!

  • it only has nostalgic appeal

as in when im drinking it the feeling of "oh wow this reminds me of that time when..." over rides "this industrial lager tastes crap".

  • It's okay unti you get used to other, stronger, better lagers.

I used to only drink Carling, now i'll always pay the extra and get something foreign. Of the common mid-priced ales Carling is by far the worst tasting in cans. In pints i think its okay, but again i'd pick Fosters or Carlsberg over it. If you're not drinking it in a pub then i wouldn't bother. You're more likely to get drunk off half the number of stonger ales, plus they taste of something. Tyskie, Zywiec or Stella every time for me.

    • Stella is fucking vile

for good lagers, anything from Central Europe's generally a good bet:
      a fair German beers
      most Polish beers
      Czech beers
      Slovak beers

or, for a crisper, mediterrnean taste you can't go far wrong with Sagres

  • Pretty awful.

Are you still in the stage where all beer tastes not very nice?

Once you're out of that stage people normally drinks Carling because:
    a) they prefer being drunk to drinking
    b) they are scared of looking like a ghey for buying something else

  • It's not that bad

It's just completely anonymous. It's surprisingly easy to drink, but that because there's nothing to it.

It's thus quite useful for drinking to get drunk.

  • Yes, it is awful...

  • yes

unless you're too far gone to notice

  • I like it

so much so that I've started buying that C2 stuff, for when I need to be up early

    it's delightfully cool and refreshing

    • Whats in C2? Or is it just lighter?

Actually Carling is just 4%, you big queen!

Carlings pretty inoffensive. I have no problem drinking it, though I smoked away my test buds a long time ago.

      • it tastes the same

        but half the strength

when I can get through 4-5 cans in an evening it's handy to be able to stretch the last couple out

        5am starts ftl

  • no

there are better beers but the likes of Carling/Carlsberg/Fosters will always get shit on. They're not indie enough.

  • It's pretty shite

But I'll drink it if it's there. As long as it hasn't been sat in a rucksack for 3 hours in direct sunlight. There's an experience I never want to repeat...

  • Yes

Even as cheap drinks go its probably one of the worst.

  • awful

worst of all the cheapy chemical brand lagers

  • lager = yuk
