Apart from this appearance of Converge, do they just report on the same bands every week? I'm sure Slipknot, RATM, HIM, Funeral for a Friend and MCR were on the front of every week's cover four years ago when I was in year 10 at school.
...to criticise, but id much rather 'the kids' were reading about converge/blacklisted/rolo tomassi (all in this weeks issue) than not reading about them at all.
I read this in smiths earlier today. Pretty shit, as expected. Still cool that most people interested in fishing magazines would have to reach past Jake's face.
covers a far wider range of music you'd expect, certainly more interesting stuff than the nme's concentration indie boringness and usually in a more intelligent and amusing way.
Kerrang's review of my old band Maths was awful, tried to compare us to Gallows and Will Haven like they do any band thats kinda heavy punk (although Throats > Will Haven isn't a terrible comaprison).
NME's review was surpringsly well informed, it was actually a bit of an anti-climax to see them get it so boringly right, comparing us to la quiete and shit. Problem is, no one who would have read that would have given a shit.
I'm surprised about the surprise! Kerrang have been writing about Converge for a long time from what I can remember.
I used to quite enjoy a read of Kerrang, they never seemed to take themselves too seriously - although to be honest it's been a very long time since I bought an issue.
when I was 13. It's a great platform to launch onto other music. Nothing wrong with a few Slipknot fans being introduced to bands like converge. For me it was my love of metallica, anthrax etc that made me buy Kerrang and introduced me to black flag, ministry etc
who's out of touch. I see Slipknot as an entry to more extreme music 'cos of the image appealing to younger metallers. To me Kerrangs aimed at a younger audience just discovering metal.
I used to scower the smaller reviews in kerrang and there would usually be some treasures, I just got sick of them covering the same three bands that I didn't care about after a while so I stopped reading.
but no, the majority of slipknot fans I very much doubt will have bothered with Converge because Slipknot are the "pop band" of extreme metal
amusing contrast with the rest of the stuff on the cover
but its hardly a shock cover is it?
course it is
it's a desperate attempt at credibility but they're doing it wrong
they'll just make do with selling not very many copies of this issue
idiots
I remember them being in Kerrang before
but never the front cover.
Cheesy headline as well.
I wonder if Jakey B just
got out of bed one morning and thought 'you know what would be cool? Getting a tatoo on my throat. That would be cool'.
lol:
SLIPKNOT: PISSED OFF AND VENOMOUS!
Better Headlines:
Converge: THIS IS HARDCORE
Slipknot: THIS ISN'T
who the fuckin' 'ell are slipknot
in relation to me getting out of bed?
also
that's a terrible magazine cover. terrible.
^^^^^^
the pope said to his aid
:S
oh dear.
i might have to buy Kerrang now, for the first time since i was 14.
im thinking about buying it
i just dont understand why they have now decided to put them on the cover?
(i know they are touring at the moment, im going :D) but its confusing.
what ive seen of the magazine they do have small segments on hardcore and stuff, but they dont really pay much attention to it do they?
So
Apart from this appearance of Converge, do they just report on the same bands every week? I'm sure Slipknot, RATM, HIM, Funeral for a Friend and MCR were on the front of every week's cover four years ago when I was in year 10 at school.
^ Lostprophets
every time I saw an issue in the shop, it was always Lostprophets (or the singer) on the front cover.
easy..
...to criticise, but id much rather 'the kids' were reading about converge/blacklisted/rolo tomassi (all in this weeks issue) than not reading about them at all.
thumbs up to kerrang.
i never said it was "wrong"...
...it's just unexpected.
rolo tomassi are in it too!
I am actually going to have to buy Kerrang. Oh dear God but MrsScagden will smirk at me.
Hide it inside a copy of something else
like porn
yes
but this is very rare, and about ten years too late
I like how Bannon's actual face
is 100 times more intimidating and cool than the Slipknot guy's shitty mask.
this made me smile
and then go 'oh yeah, it is'
Weird innit
I read this in smiths earlier today. Pretty shit, as expected. Still cool that most people interested in fishing magazines would have to reach past Jake's face.
is there a converge poster in the magazine?
if there is im sold
Don't think there was
didn't check really but didn't get that 'converge poster' vibe. S'only cheap anyway, might as well find out.
Last week there was a picture of Eva Spence from Rolo Tomassi
and she was wearing a Regina Spektor T-shirt!
<3<3<3<3
Was she wearing a a bra?

stfu
I remember when it was Wolfsbane, Anthrax and Paradise Lost
...and it were all fields around here.
Bannon looks like Nosferatu in that picture
I like.
Haha
Kerrang is like the training magazine for future NME kids.
kerrang
covers a far wider range of music you'd expect, certainly more interesting stuff than the nme's concentration indie boringness and usually in a more intelligent and amusing way.
you say that but
Kerrang's review of my old band Maths was awful, tried to compare us to Gallows and Will Haven like they do any band thats kinda heavy punk (although Throats > Will Haven isn't a terrible comaprison).
NME's review was surpringsly well informed, it was actually a bit of an anti-climax to see them get it so boringly right, comparing us to la quiete and shit. Problem is, no one who would have read that would have given a shit.
*shrug*
maths is over? :'(
or you just left?
as far as i'm aware
they're still at it, they seemed happy enough in Glasgow on Sunday.
I left a few months ago
completely expected
converge is totally kerrang material these days.
they'll be on
cause they're touring again.
I think the last time, aside from this I was surprised by a Kerrang cover was when they put Against Me! on, couldnt see much demand for that
haha
=D
The guy in the top hat made me chuckle.
Spooky metal!
yeah
any time Kerrang has a decent band on the cover it's a little surprising.
awesome
Kerrang have always been Converge fans, they've done loads of stuff with them, grow up.
Converge seemed suprised about it aswell though
exactly
I'm surprised about the surprise! Kerrang have been writing about Converge for a long time from what I can remember.
I used to quite enjoy a read of Kerrang, they never seemed to take themselves too seriously - although to be honest it's been a very long time since I bought an issue.
I used to subscribe to Kerrang
when I was 13. It's a great platform to launch onto other music. Nothing wrong with a few Slipknot fans being introduced to bands like converge. For me it was my love of metallica, anthrax etc that made me buy Kerrang and introduced me to black flag, ministry etc
am i out of touch here?
but wouldnt most slipknot fans be familiar with converge already?
Maybe it's me
who's out of touch. I see Slipknot as an entry to more extreme music 'cos of the image appealing to younger metallers. To me Kerrangs aimed at a younger audience just discovering metal.
Could be wrong mind
yeah I agree
I used to scower the smaller reviews in kerrang and there would usually be some treasures, I just got sick of them covering the same three bands that I didn't care about after a while so I stopped reading.
but no, the majority of slipknot fans I very much doubt will have bothered with Converge because Slipknot are the "pop band" of extreme metal
Didn't Slipknot rip off the Saddest Day intro
in a hidden track, or soemthing?
Nah
Not that surprising
Kerrang DOES cover a fairly wide range of rock music, but it almost always puts the bands that will sell on the cover.
Apparently the editor has an awesome taste in music
but is obliged to fill the magazine with shit every week to sell copies. So it's not too much of a surpirse.
i bought it today
it does some half decent stuff in there, just its outweighed by pages of crushing shte, like elliot minor talking about waxing their balls.
the converge article looks good though.
