So pretty much genius, layered, atmospheric songwriting, or Coldplay wannabe cheesy fucks?
I can't decide. I think I like them more than not.

i saw one video i really liked
on a totp once
buti could never find it again.
and i haven't liked anything else by them
erm
neither of the categories you list.
I really like their music.
They are great.
Now Here is Nowhere >>> Ten Silver Drops
though.
Both albums are great
Lightning Blue Eyes is brilliant.
1,000 Seconds is really good
and so is Alone, Jealous & Stoned
and others...
Yeah, they're good. But they edge pretty close to cheese at some points. I'd say 7/10. Maybe 8.
Might go rate them.
September 000
I'm still not sure about this one.Too much 'blues'.
Secret Machines are godlike
fender rhodes (actually have great taste in gear, gotta love that)
stupendous drummer
great writing
solid vocals
well dressed
well spoken
Got Garth Hudson on their record (they rule for that alone)
3 great albums so far
1 great ep
Great Live (last tour they had a round stage that could be walked around 360 degrees- cool)
lost the guitarist (double loss cause he sang vocals with his brother)
Buy Or Die
They
have a new album out in October,http://www.nme.com/news/the-secret-machines/37960
And please do not compare them to Coldplay, I find that quite an odd comparison. Road to Nowhere is a great album, the second was okay, Alone Jealous and Stoned is beautiful.
erm
*Now Here is Nowhere.
i actually
prefer ten silver drops to now here is nowhere. there are cracking tunes on n.h.i.n, but i can listen to the whole of ten silver drops. still fucking brilliant band. wonder what they are doing/how they've done as a two piece.
*
looks like they have a new guitarist. back to a 3 piece then.
they alway were a trio
um
yeah
As space-rock goes...
The Secret Machines are up there with the best of them. Bring on the new album.
10 Silver Drops is Fucking Amazing
Really Fucking Amazing even.
first wave intact
is my favourite song of all time.
has been for about 4 years.
i remember seeing them play leeds 2004
if i remember anything that day it was the seriously epic drumming. absolutely blown away.
Love them
Absolutely incredible live, the drummer is a monster.
Hope losing a member doesn't affect them too much, we shall find out soon it seems.
^ this
live they are excellent, so much smoke on stage there could have been twenty of them up there, you'd never know.
didn't even know they lost a member
shame...which one?
Benjamin Curtis (the guitarist)
brother of keyboardist/bassist/singer Brandon Curtis.
I heard they hooked up with Interpol's touring keyboardist (who's name escapes me) and one of Josh Garza's (secret machines drummer) freinds on guitar now.
I'm hoping for the best.
Benjamin Curtis
played guitar and sang a bit, would be standing in the middle when they played live.
Went off to play in another band, can't remember there name, but I remember thinking they aint nowhere near as good as secret machines
yeah okay I know the one
that is a shame
Can I use this thread to brag about the fact I've got one of their
almost-wrecked drumsticks?
Its battered within an inch of its poor little life, and is thick like a midget's finger.
I'm impressed with just having seen them
as I sadly have not nor am I likely to ever see them (in their original state) and to have one of Josh's sticks (presumably from a gig)-worth bragging about I'd say.
yeah they are goood..
looking forward to hearing their new stuff. is any new material up anywhere on the interweb?
i saw them at reading a couple of years ago and it was probably one of the best, most enormous live performances i have seen. having said that i agree with the the cheese comments, but i think that's part of their charm (wrong word).
saw them @ coachella
a real surprising highlight of the day.
