I think they're all gorgeous, even the deaf one. I'd definitely go out for a bevi with any of 'em and i think it's great that something like this is on the box.
Saying that, i still have to watch it from behind a cushion. I don't know where to look, i feel kind of embarrased watching it, not for them obviously, but for me, i feel like i'm voyuering (that's a word, okay) into what's a huge and very personal issue for them. I also think it's slightly exploitative.
Onions?
i only saw the first episode
so they pick very good-looking girls who have (non-facial) physical defects. how liberating.
I've not seen it
but I don't see how it would be any more exploitative than any of the other model 'talent' shows around.
True but the fact that they're making a big deal
out of the models disabilities strikes me as even more exploitative. Anyhow if it interests you it's worth analysing reality tv based on Marx's Theory of Alienation...what you come out with, to me at least, is a very valid analysis of the rise of reality tv.
As I say
I've not seen it so I've not seen how much they're making of the respective disabilities. If that's what they're focusing on rather than the competition itself then I'd say it's more bad taste/poorly produced than exploitative.
Yet more bad taste programming on BBC3,
oh my what a surprise. It could have been a genuinely interesting programme, instead it just struck me as very exploitative...even the title, Britain's Missing Top Model, screams exploitation and fetishisation. It's implying that there is something somehow deficient or missing from these women and lumps them into an artificial category for want of a better word. Programmes like that do nothing to forward acceptance in society of disabilities and impairments.
iplayer
I'm going to watch it now, get back to you in a bit. Like that they've made the screen bigger.
i really don't get the concept of the show
it's like the paralympics for models or something?
it's a tv contest to find a model from a shortlist of 8
except all these girls have disabilities of some kind.
but why?
because disableds are people too
a friend of mine at uni had a fake arm
she was fucking gorgeous
I don't understand why the deaf womans there
sure it's a disability, but I don't see how it would stop her from breaking into the 'normal' fashion world. Whereas I can see how having no legs would. It's like letting a deaf person run 100m at the para-olympics.
<wouldn't hear the gun joke>
what's the gun joke?
As in they wouldn't hear the gun
:|
how would they hear the
starter pistol?
they could use a flag?
there must be a way any how. And the point is models aren't exactly famous for what comes out of their mouths, in their mouths maybe, but not out. So why on earth does not being able to speak inhibit her from becoming a model.
99% of the population
cannot be models as they do not have the requisite features and body. Other than the deaf ones, these are no different.
It is a pointless programme.
yeah they should have a model competition
for ugly people attempting to break into the modelling world.
i'd PISS that.
so basically
who can pout the best, make their hair the biggest and fit the most eyeliner on?
It's an alright show
they are/seem to be nicer girls than the average disbaled person, probably because they are treated slightly better for being pretty, and face difficulties going through normal life/ are quite reliant. It isn't exploitative at all I think, and gives them an opportunity to do something nice for themselves.
