Personally, ive had both the Sennheiser & Sony ones in the past. The Sony one's are much much better. More bass and more treble. Both earphones cost about £20-25.
They are very good but will break. However, they did replace them without much hassle (which means you get all new wax guards, attachments etc). The wax guards do fuck me off though.
i use those sonys and they are class. i got sony mdr xd200 for listening at home and they are good but so fucking big. ive got a bean head so i look like an idiot. anyone recommend some that dont make me look like gary linekar
crappy little ipod earbuds you can have mine for nada. I've got two pairs sat unsued in a drawer. Send me a message with your address and I'll pop them in the post.
are too small. When I wore them, just the once on the day I got my iPod, I would smile, say to the lyrics of Vicar in a Tutu and they would fall out. They hurt my lugs.
if you are using the ear buds that came with your iPod that you don't really like music. I don't know why I jump to that conclusion but it's like if I see someone eating McDonald's I think to myself "oh, you don't like proper food then".
i buy these plain sony black ones that cost about £8 from local electronics shop, last about 10-18 months, and sound amazing compared to any other earphones i've used.
proves you don't have to break the bank for a good listen.
but i'm not gonna lug them about with me or wear them whilst i'm cycling, especially since the sound quality sucks in those situations anyway. and bollocks to buying new ones.
Maybe I got some dodgy Chinese knock off pair, but mine were a bit average? After all the great reviews, they only really coped with dance music, r&b and pop and made all rock / indie very sludgy and wall-of-sound like.
either tinny or swampy after Bose. As long as they can drown out the daily grinding sounds of the hell of OTHER PEOPLE TALKING in the street etc I am happy with my Sennheiser.
especially if they were from hong kong or somewhere.
or even if they weren't.
headphones are one of those things you probably shouldn't buy off ebay unless you're 100% sure the seller is legit
that said, i got some fake sony ones for two pounds which are great.
A bit on the pricey side, £40. However, the sound is very clear and they are the most balanced headphones I have ever owned.
Plus, they are great if you use mass transit, they seal into your ears so they block out background noise.
Their customer support is also fantastic (in the US at least).
My girlfriend has Sennheisers and I feel they are too bass-heavy.
...haven't tried these, but am considering buying a pair, as I can't imagine Grado putting out something that doesn't sound good; my SR80s are my favourite headphones:
I have Bose in-ear ones that I wouldn't recommend at all: far too much bass, and pretty muddy sounding. Plus, they're pretty overpriced, like all Bose products really.
The CX300s are pretty decent, but there's no mid-range, just top and a decent bass, so are good for the price i guess. But 3 pairs of mine broke, with the left ear channel being blown out each time (though this was probably a faulty iPod).
they aren't as good as my Alessandros, but they also aren't massively oversized with a 5m cable and zero isolation (though admittedly, the isolation is fairly close to zero - i'm pretty sure my entire office can hear mine). They're a baby Grado in every sense, but it's about as good as you'll get for the price (£30-ish). And yes, they are still very good
Saying that, i'm not a fan of in-ear phones at all. Cheap canal phones (like the Creatives and CX300s mentioned above) just sound congested, innaccurate, flat and bloated to me. And i've never tried out any IEMs (which go deeper into your ear) because i really don't like the idea of poking around in there. Plus i've read some urban legends about people popping their eardrum when they take them out too quickly - no thanks mate. Also, they tend to be expensive.
Although coming from a stock iBud background, i'm sure you'll find anything an improvement. Although you probably don't like music n ting
so yeah, iGrado ftw. You just have to develop a selfish disdain for anyone else who might be in earshot
They are horrible. Really good bass if that's what floats your boat but awful treble, slightly improved with Treble Booster turned on in the EQ settings. I had some very similar Sony ones(even the rubber seal things fit the Senheisers) that sounded so much better.
In ear types hurt my ears, I've tried Sennheisers which were decent and some expensive Sony's which were fookin' shite. Sound was ok, not as good as the Sennheisers but build was woeful.
I've been using those Koss one's now for ages and they are the tits. Sound quality is awesome, price is very reasonable and a lifetime warranty. Very comfortable.
The design is like marmite, I don't mind looking a bit Blade Runner tho and they're not as big as they look.
Great sound, great value, great customer service. They replaced my broken earphones (small cable tear) with a brand new model that sounded even better, all within 3 days.
I ordered some new Creative EP630s yesterday cos I broke my others, so to get me through the weekend I bought a pair of reasonable-looking noise-reduction earbuds from Woolies for a fiver...
They're surely some kind of cruel practical joke, it's like I'm listening underwater, can't tell what song it is half the time. Is this really how most people listen to music? :(
these are my ones and i love them, they cost me £52 from Amazon. the only problem with them is the extra long extention cable which you have to use because without it the standard cable is too short.
you can get really
good in-ear sennheiser ones from richer sounds for £20.
^
Can't go wrong with Sennheiser CX300s
Yep^
go for those. Think they were about £15 on amazon about a year ago. Sound good and have lasted pretty well.
boo
i paid £30 in HMV and they couldn't give me student discount :( Fortunately £20 was gift voucherness
You can't beat Sennheiser CX300's
Mine broke recently after 2 1/2 years of daily use. I have upgraded to CX 500's which have a clearer sound but lack the bass punch (so far).
Whatever you choose get them from Amazon as their prices are very competitive
I've got
cx400s.... amzon, 17 quid, normally like 40.... brill
Sennheiser
All the way, the big buds are pretty much the only in-ears that will actually stay in my ears. They sound great as well.
I am a fan of these

The sound isolation and carry case are superb. Plus Shure give you a two year guarantee, which is nice.
Get Sony one's
Personally, ive had both the Sennheiser & Sony ones in the past. The Sony one's are much much better. More bass and more treble. Both earphones cost about £20-25.
....
the in-ears ones i mean.
.
the bass in the in-ear ones improves with time after the rubber is a little less stiff ('that's what she said').
^^
nice.
That's what I use.
They are very good but will break. However, they did replace them without much hassle (which means you get all new wax guards, attachments etc). The wax guards do fuck me off though.
They are £8!
For that tiny little strip. I was outraged. Aside from that, I love the headphones.
These are ace

^^^^^ Those are the ones I have
reeealllly cheap and they sound amazing to me......I love 'em.
Yeah
these are soooooo good
The cheap-yet-decent
option is Philips. You can earphones with cushions for a fiver, and they stand head-and-shoulders above Apple sound quality.
However,
I would like a pair of those Creative ones myself..
I use these Sony efforts, 12.60, fucking great, why pay more?

do these
have the volume control thing midway up the cord? i really need that in a pair of headphones.
no
they dont
If you mean the
crappy little ipod earbuds you can have mine for nada. I've got two pairs sat unsued in a drawer. Send me a message with your address and I'll pop them in the post.
I use these - sounds ok, wouldn't mind having to replace them if I sat on them (thems there my criteria) http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/587389/Sennheiser-PX-200-Mini-Headphones-Black/Product.html my other half has these, which I couldn't see the point of for just walking about but having used them a couple of times they are liking dying and going to headphone heaven. It's like having your ears hugged by the God of Music as he plays sweet nothings into them http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/en/home-entertainment/personal-audio/headphones/acoustic-noise-cancelling-headphones/qc3/index.jsp (he did get them substantially cheaper in NY)
koss plug
are weird to put in but v comfortable and sound tight
my ears
are too small. When I wore them, just the once on the day I got my iPod, I would smile, say to the lyrics of Vicar in a Tutu and they would fall out. They hurt my lugs.
why oh why
Do people even bother using those ipod headphones? The first thing i did was chuck them in the bin.
I kind of assume
if you are using the ear buds that came with your iPod that you don't really like music. I don't know why I jump to that conclusion but it's like if I see someone eating McDonald's I think to myself "oh, you don't like proper food then".
I am very judgemental like that.
I am trying to get better.
i'm inclined to agree
It's almost like, "whats the point". You might as well not bother.
yep
my white ipod earphones went straight in the bin
i buy these plain sony black ones that cost about £8 from local electronics shop, last about 10-18 months, and sound amazing compared to any other earphones i've used.
proves you don't have to break the bank for a good listen.

but i'm not gonna lug them about with me or wear them whilst i'm cycling, especially since the sound quality sucks in those situations anyway. and bollocks to buying new ones.
I bought some Sennheiser CX300's off ebay
Maybe I got some dodgy Chinese knock off pair, but mine were a bit average? After all the great reviews, they only really coped with dance music, r&b and pop and made all rock / indie very sludgy and wall-of-sound like.
I dunno... Maybe it was just a dodgy set
Everything sounds
either tinny or swampy after Bose. As long as they can drown out the daily grinding sounds of the hell of OTHER PEOPLE TALKING in the street etc I am happy with my Sennheiser.
probably fake
especially if they were from hong kong or somewhere.
or even if they weren't.

The standard iPod ones are good for when you're cycling, as they block out no sound at all.
Otherwise - absolutely fecking worthless.
Ultimate Ears!

Just say NO to SKULLCANDY!
Srsly.
Total waste of money. Irritatingly the sound is good, but the build is just woeful.
I read loads of warnings about the quality (or lack of) of their products, but pressed on and bought a pair of FMJs regardless.
AWESOME sound......for about two months, then they just stopped working. Got sent another pair and the same thing happened again.
The net is full of people with similar stories and the same thing happened with my brother's pair.
Avoid.

most audiogeeks say they suck, categorically
of course, it could just be the audiogeek equivalent of hating on the popular bands because they're popular. But still...
Koss PortaPro

Big recommendation from me.
i got some portapros recently
they are mint. i love them. came to them from sennheiser px200s and i prefer them big time.
Shure shure shure shure shure

I love my
Bose - they sound very good, even if it's too much bass (which is lacking with iPods anyway)
picked mine in Germany, but dunno if they're available over here
now I'm trying some bluetooth wireless Sony thingie, good for wearing but awful compressed sound
I laugh too at ppl wearing white standards iPod earphones, like "look at me, I have an iPod, how cool I am"
Sennheiser CX95 style
these are my ones and i love them, they cost me £52 from Amazon. the only problem with them is the extra long extention cable which you have to use because without it the standard cable is too short.
