The Neil Young concert at the HOP FARM was great weather apart. He should have played "SEE THE SKY ABOUT TO RAIN "
It took us three hours to leave the car park. Not well organised, back in London 3am !
Also they did not allow us to keep our tickets, does anybody know the reason for that.I collect all my concert tickets.
Vince power ? Umm ,
I collected
my ticket at the boxoffice and handed the whole thing over five yards away, Utterly pointless.
Despite having kittens about it the SeeTickets organised coach to Paddington was fine and I managed to catch my 12:30 train fine.
Neil was a bit good though, no strings left on guitar at the end.
Both of those things
were a bit of a downer, but they couldn't spoil how amazing Neil Young was.
Shame about the ticket stubs
But for me, that version of No Hidden Path more than made up for things! He was definitely a bit good.
I thought that was
funny, we could have just printed off copies off the internet and laminated them as they didn't scan a single one, also not checking everyone's numerous massive bags as they went in which could have been filled with machine guns for all they knew. 2 hrs in car park, everyone was pretty calm and some men bonded with their car park neigbours.
Absolutely bizzare crowd, because of their being only once stage people guarded their 'places' with their lives and two women who attempted to dance or show any enthusiasm were physically lifted out of the crowd and removed for 'ruining' peoples day....
WICKERMAN
Word up about the crowd
The old guy next to me kept telling everyone to stop singing along because he didn't want to hear them. He was wearing a flasher's mac and I was praying for them to play Dirty Old Man so I could shout it in his ear.
This
has made me laugh.
he probably had a point
some of the singing around me was fucking appalling and I would have preferred hearing Neil doing it instead because he is really good at singing
The twat in hat contingent was higher than expected too
I thoughth the organsaition wasn't that bad
We didn't have to contend with the car park admittedly (we were picked up outside). Obviously the weather was pretty bad, but Rufus made that perfect!
I heard that there was at least double there for Neil Young than there was the day before for Mighty Boosh. So I guess the site wasn’t really tested. I thought that they made it feel like a festival rather than a gig in a field.
The old gits with their chairs and picnics were dead annoying, not exactly displaying the hippy vibe I’m sure many of them had in their youth! I managed to beat a few into submission during Primal Scream though!
Musically I thought the whole day was awesome. Would have been better if Neil Young had played 30mins longer, but I guess it’s good to be left wanting more!!
It didnt seem to packed for boosh
I have no idea how many was there though.
The Boosh thing
sold 15,000 of 30,000 tickets according to Chortle at the weekend. I don't think there was quite 30,000 there yesterday but nearer to that than 20,000.
The sun coming out to "Hallelujah" almost reduced me to tears, maybe the fact I'd had a blub to it the previous Sunday meant I don't cry no tears.
A lot of people turning up a 6pm and standing a foot in front of you and so on but there's bound to be a few knobs in such a large crowd as we all know.
Laura Marling played perfectly well, thought see might be a little nervous with such a big crowd (even then) and I hope she couldn't hear Neanderthal heckles that I could.
Guillemots were probably the best of the four times I've seen them, really got the crowd going at the front at least.
Rufus, I spent most of it queuing for a pie (which was very nice) but even from the sidelines he put in a better performance than I expected (I'm not the biggest of fans)
MMJ tore it up, they were great, played plenty of stuff from Z which I think is there best album and really have to go see them headline again soon.
Supergrass are as reliable festival band as you can ask for and they didn't disappoint. Even played 'Alright' and 'Mary' which made the set for me. Gaz's daughter(?) having a mini-mosh in her yellow coat was pretty cute too.
Primal Scream played four new songs, the single and title track were pretty good although 'Beautiful Future' is a shade repetitive. The SP/KL and Swastika Eyes section was very good for the small pockets of younger people rocking out around the picnic brigades in their chairs. (Note to the guy who has hitting on the two girls near us; probably better not to tell them you were pissing in a bottle and tipping it on the floor near them and if you have to do it four times in 45 minutes you might might to drink a little less that early in the day.
What can be said about Neil Young, really emotional to see an 63 year old play so much stuff touching on ageing. Think he played four songs from Harvest and I would have preferred an 'Ambulance Blues' or 'Powderfinger' thrown in but that's only a minor complaint.
Talk of it being a three day festival next year. Hmmm.
Longest post of the day award goes to....
MitchellStirling! ;)
For what its worth, here's my verdict:
Everest: didnt get there for them
Laura Marling: Missed her and am gutted
Guillemots: Boring, though not helped by the weather
Rufus Wainwright: Didnt really float my boat until he sang Hallelujah and the sun came out, that was a nice moment
My Morning Jacket: Missed when I went to the car to dry off
Supergrass: OK, not bad but didnt set the world alight
Primal Scream: Seemed a bit half-arsed, Swastika Eyes was good though
Neil Young: Amazing, blew everyone else of stage. Perfect sound where I was. there were other songs I would have liked to hear, but it's no complaint. Superb. Made the whole thing worthwhile
Lack of Real Ale: Deplorable, but i had no trouble getting to the bar
Toilets: Not sure why everyone queued for the cubicles when you could go in the other way and there were free urinals
Food: I just went to a stall with no queue, which wasnt hard to find, even at 5.30
Taking away tickets: Pointless and disappointing.
Car park: stupid, but couldn't put a dampener on the evening. Neil Young made everything else not matter.
there was real ale at the boosh thing
strange they didnt keep it for you lot.
glad to see some MMJ love
seeing them on Tuesday, can't wait. I like Z but hoping for an At Dawn/It Still Moves-heavy set...
MMJ were amazing
better than Neil Young, who was pretty awesome, 20 minute last song aside
the
25 minute no hidden path was hands down the highlight of the set!
it was awful
STOP SINGING THE SAME LINE NEIL
YOU COULD FIT ANOTHER FIVE SONGS IN THE TIME IT TOOK YOU
