Anyone here get on it?
I meditated for the first time today after a friend gave me some books (ZaZen) and recommended I tried it. It was nice; a level of relaxation i don't think i've experienced before. My feet and arms fucking kill though. Anyone got any tips on what time of the day to do it/where to fit it in with your daily routine etc.
Also, what tunes (if any)do you listen to?
x
what does it entail?
I have never done it but plan this very week on starting.
So these books are freely available?
Also - Daniel P Carter?
Noise/drone style
To be honest, you'd be happy with white noise. Not to get all hippy, but the wind in the trees is great for meditation.
If your legs hurt,stretch first,yeah?Duh
After the most stressful time of time works best, usually before sleep.
Hope that's helpfull,and I don't come acrooss as all,well,yeah...
do you have to do the position?
cant you just sit on a comfy sofa?
Yeah I do it.
Had one of the best years of my life when I discovered it and got into it a few years ago. Learnt alot about life/people/the world. Considered giving up alcohol for good.
Don't do it so much now but still a tool I use. Great stress releaver. The only downside for me is that sometimes i don't like the spaced out feeling so much afterwards, so I have to choose more carefully when I do it. Sometimes just prefer to be straight edged.
But saying that there's nothing like being so completely relaxed and tranquil as you go about your day, at peace with the world.
The sitting is
more to do with opening up the spine/diaphragm area from what i know; the positions foster good posture. I tried the 'half-lotus' and lost the feeling in my foot after about 10 minutes, managed to shut that out though. You could do it on the sofa i suppose, but it would be quite hard me thinks.
This is why people do yoga
Its basically a tool for helping you meditate comfortably. The lotus position being the optimum.
I've never done yoga so don't meditate in the lotus position, there's no way I'd be able to do it.
yeah i used to and it's something i'd like to get back into
first time i felt so weirded out by the calm i had to watch black hawk down to recover!
i wanna go to this at some point in the next few months though it might be a little culty: http://www.globalretreatcentre.org
