Just how good is Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?

Near perfection.

That's all.

  • hmm

i completely forgot about this album. i haven't listened to it since last year. in conclusion, it's good but not a classic.

    • i beg to differ

      listen to it again!

      • nah way

i'm listening to Kickball these days. listen to Kickball toby, you'd like them.

        • not as good as sunlandic twins...

after all the hype it got, I was slightly disappointed...

          • strange

I much prefer it to Sunlandic Twins, I was actually quite disappointed by that one! Hype is a dmaging thing!

        • ho is kickball?

and what album should i look for?

  • it pales in comparison with

satanic panic, and to a lesser extent sunlandic twins.
i havent given fauna the attention of the other 2, but thats just cos its not as good.
i know he was obviously going through hard times but wheres the joy in this record.

    • ???

      it's 100% joy

      • Really?

About half the songs seem to be about his failing marriage and subsequent mental breakdown. I know the music is jolly, jolly, bouncy, bouncy but some of the lyrics are really dark.

        • music is joy

          • ^^ what a gay post

i mean, the music is joyful enough to carry it

  • I will never understand why this band seem to get so much love.

    It baffles me.

    • ^

      this.

    • You were there

for 'The Past Is A Grotesque Animal' at ATP and said it was the most amazing end to a set you'd ever seen.

I think they're pretty good but HFAYTD loses it in the last few tracks.

  • only just recently been getting into it

SO many great tunes on it

  • Took me fucking ages to get into

but I absolutely love it. Every song is great.

    • Hmmm

Its never really grabbed me. The fellas voice in particular i find very dull and uninteresting.

  • i agree its an amazing album

when i first heard it i loved it, and i like it more every time i listen to it.

can't wait to hear the new one if it is anything like Hissing Fauna (which i think it is)

  • 7.8

  • It's had

a new lease of live for me since their ATP set which was probably the happiest hour of my year.

  • It better be good

because I am spending my precious emusic downloads on it right now and if it isn't any cop I will be holding the internets in general to blame.

  • i think it's goood..

the first few tracks are wonderful but i think the second half drags. it sort of morphs into cod-scissor sisters dirge. having said that she's a rejector and we were born mutants again.. are among their best.

still i prefer the sunlandic twins and to satanic panic..

still one of my favourite bands in the whole world.

  • so good i bought it twice

it's one of the few records i own on both cd and vinyl. it's that good. right down to the artwork and packaging... <3

  • it's very very good indeed

I thought I couldn't like anything as much as Satanic Panic...I was wrong. How many insanely catchy songs can go on one album? The bar has been set very high for Skeletal Lamping. Oh and their ATP set was pure pleasure too.

  • love it

much prefer it to any of their/his earlier records. MUCH.

    • yeah

same. Their earlier stuff is nice but doesn't have the same vitality or edge that Hissing Fauna has. It's a wonderful record and one of the most imaginative things I've ever heard, although it falls short of perfection because of Faberge and Labyrinthian Pomp.

      • I consider of montreal to be two seperate bands

I think kevin barnes considers them to be three judging by oMM2. I love early of montreal, I think cherry peel is the best lofi indie pop album ever, the bedside drama has his best songs on it and the gay parade is a masterpiece, I loved how optimistic he always was even in th sad songs. I think they lost their way for a bit until perfecting their/his new sound on hissing fauna. It is such a mental breakdown of an album, very powerful, another masterpiece but I miss the old naive oM
