Every bloody story or post on this site is about them, so i finally checked them out yesterday. Meh.

we've had far more "JoFo are overrated" threads than "JoFo are great" in the last month, although admittedly the latter held sway for the period before that.

Overhyping then slagging band is much too common. Give the bands time.

As for "JoFo", I like what I heard and will buy the album when my record shop will manage to get it.

The album has grown on me as I was originally very sceptical after seeing the ridiculous number of "Johnny Foreigner are the greatest band in the universe" threads, 8/10 is an ideal rating for them

what you have to realise is that you're confronted with more Johnny Foreigner than your average human being, because you read Drowned in Sound. There is an underground of British bands that really don't get much coverage in the UK beyond this website. It's not as though they're regularly mentioned in the NME or T4 music programs.

I find it hilarious when bands like JoFo receive hostility on these message boards. It seems such a childish over reaction. They are basically us in a band. They listen to the same bands that we by and large listen to, they post on the same message boards, they are fighting the good fight.

They are beautiful, beautiful people, and they are an incredible band. You wish you were doing what they were doing.

You just hate music.

I feel like I'm letting myself down by being apathetic about them. I'm listening to them really hard now (almost giving meself a hernia) attempting to summon some vehement feelings either way. I think they are great, and the album is brilliant. although i do agree that the bonus track is a bit annoying, even if i do still like it, considering how perfect an end Absolute Balance would be.

that it's a band like Johnny Foreigner who are the subject of so many "is it just me or are they shite and overhyped?" threads. They're barely hyped outside these boards, for a start, but moreover at the moment there's quite a few bands - Times New Viking, Fuck Buttons, No Age - whose sound you'd imagine as an oustider would be more instantly polarising yet do get endless threads about their greatness without anywhere near the poster backlash JoFo get.

My hat's off to you for posting on this thread. I've not heard your music so I can't add to the debate but I have to tell you that I have discussed this with some notable artists who admitted that they couldn't bear to even look at music forums let alone post on them and more especially add to a discussion about themselves! You are amazing for that if nothing else.

What are people rating them as? Best band in the world? Then yeah, maybe a bit overrated.

and they are first modern british band to get me very excited for a long time. so personally i don't think they're overrated especially as they don't really get that much publicity apart from here. if anything i believe they are underrated because i think their album deserved a 9/10 instead of an 8/10. but there you go. just my opinion.

and although they're by no means repellent, their stuff really doesn't grab me as anything special. I almost saw them live once, but turned up too late to see them. I don't get the attraction...

they adorn their new video and record sleeve with, but i'm nonplussed and indifferent when it comes to their material.

I stumbled upon the video in question on NME TV during a brief televisual surf(shudder), so major musical distribution channels and commercial networks would appear to taking notice.

I just wish they'd play Cambridge more. Perhaps... every day, maybe. Or just for them to set up in the corner of my living room and play non-stop. I'd give them free gin in return.

i think it's definately fair enough to call them overrated on here, and that's coming from someone that absolutely bums the ep/album/live shows/t-shirt i own.

Cant be arsed to read this, but I still hold that "JoFo" are shit and are rated (i.e. thought of ) too highly mainly on these boards.
