Drowned in Sound

I know most of DiS dislikes them now.

For the ones who do like them. Do you know what the countdown on their website is for? (http://www.blocparty.com/)

i do

i hope its something good like an album and not something dull like a dvd.

and

The Killers (9?) don't?

killers aren't pretentious

they're the opposite

Yeah, but they get away with it because they deserve it

Due to them being, you know, consistently great?

bloc party have more reason to get away with it than Killers!

i like bloc party though.

I quite like Bloc Party too

But they are just so patchy when it comes to writing decent tunes, one song can be absolutely amazing and the next song can be utter crap.

hmm yeah thats certainly true of a weekend in the city

the first album though - brilliant i thought

i predict a return to form

you heard it here first.

it's for a time-portal.

everyone on the website at the exact time of countdown will be transported back to October 2004. Then they'll thrust their dirge on you again, muhahahaha.

Nooo

I'm happy in 2008!

yeah but

if we shoot a portal where we are about to land we will free fall and build up momentum, then fire one back the way we came we'll land back in 2008. or go too far cos of the momentum and end up in 3008.

you all play portal right?

i actually think it'll just be a new website

they've not made another album yet

^this

is probably going to be the case, since there's nothing else to access on the front page. booooooo

I wouldn't say most people on here dislike them

at all. What I would say though is that album number two wasn't a patch on the first record, and as the great man Cloughie once said, "You're only as good as your last performance".

oo

thats exciting, wonder what it is.

the answer is simple really

it's going to be a countdown to a video.
of 20,000 copies of the flux single, being burnt in a huge fire.

while kele runs around the burning pile of plastic while screaming:
"fuck global warming, im in it for the money"

it then finishes with a full band performance of 'for the love of money' by the O'Jays.

during which poor gordon will just stand there, playing a microkorg, wondering what happened to his bass, and his life.

it'll then be released as a digital download immediately.

with a 7" to follow in the next week.

watch this space.

DiS-syndrome

yes, the irony is delicious

Well I'm excited

even if no one else is. I reckon its maybe a new song. Kele has spoken about a new album/songs before the end of the year. A live date or two would be great - Norwich please!

A weekend in the city...

was possibly the most dissapointing second album ever, only on par to show your bones....

And Flux....they really jumped on that nu rave bandwagon like 7 seven years to late...

Lets hope its not a countdown to the re-release of "I Still Remember"...

@gcub

gotta agree.
I was so dissapointed straight away.
It took a friend a while to admit it to himself

the daily mail line, oh god that awful awful awful daily mail line

the sad thing is, the album is filled with that kinda crud

mystery jets 2nd was toss as well
futureheads 2nd was good, but their 3rd was super meh
Killers' 2nd was meh

the 04-05 bands didnt return to form

disagree

mystery jets 2nd is excellent.

The new Futureheads is pretty good too.

yeah

to be fair the futureheads have shown themselves to not only be versatile but pretty tough aswell (being dropped and releasing a good 3rd album)

mystery jets 2nd is better than their 1st

it's only bloc party that made the sophomore mistake - there's definately a hint of the pretentious. also their key attribute was matt tong who is completely underused on a weekend in the city.

It was inevitable that the vapid string of 04-05

superficial acts weren't going to outlast the temporary era that brough them commercial success. The mainstream music industry moved on to different pastures relatively quickly, and their sophomore outings were undeserving of any critical acclaim they received. I'm addressing the hugely NME-endorsed Killers, Bloc Party et al.

Although 'Futureheads diversification

was fruitful as they endeavoured to seperate themselves from the collective of samey acts, and arguably merited admiration from critics - sadly only unjustifiably lose their label contract as a result.

*losing

and i guess drop 'only' as well.

Treble post, apologies.

Are you drunk JayPe?

I hope so. If not please may I direct you to:

I saw Kele last tuesday at the Radiohead gig and he had a very smug look on his face. Almost like he was counting down to something...

,

I really do prefer AWITC by a considerable distance as well

what if they split up?

that'd at least be interesting.

maybe a second remix album? u know like the one for the first album?

i hate it when bands do this!

inflated sense of self-importance much?

And if anyone's got an inflated sense of self-importance...

it's that Kele.

Uh, I do like Bloc Party though.

[And I prefer the second album]

It's

nice to have an air of mystery about something though, its exciting, especially if your a fan.

But yeah Kele is rather pretentious, and Matt was terribly underused in the second album.

And also I think 83746725 is right it will be a remix album.

I hope its not another lame album

I really liked Silent Alarm and am very indiffrent about weekend in teh city :(

They need to sack that producer and get their edge back.

Paul Epworth

from the first album is working on the new stuff apparently, but aswell as Jackknife Lee from the second album :S

oh god

F Off Jackknife :(

He ruins most bands he touches unfortunatly, cant he go back to making shit big beat and leave every one alone.

Epworth can be wicked mind some times he made some beautys on the last Acoustic Ladyland album Salt Water is a massive beast of a tune.

i agree

but he's still not as bad as Tony Hoffer, who should probably be on the recieving end of a lifetime restraining order that he keep 1000 yards from music at all times

live dates i reckon

they announced a few new american dates today. couple of UK dates to follow me thinks.

nanananNANaANanaNA

confused me
what is happenning then

it's a bomb

the internets is gunna blow up on monday

Its probibly the countdown

to Burial's mix album coming out, especialy as it doesnt seem to have any numbers or time period

///

new single on zane lowe, tonight.

boring.

you were right.

oh man thats rubbish

Why wont anyone tell me when Burials album will be out!

I'm not in that much of a rush to hear a new Bloc Party single. I will wait for it to be all over the radio and an album to pop out.

could it be this

http://www.seetickets.com/club2020/event.asp?e|artist=&e|promoter=6388&filler1=see&orderby=date&filler3=id1gadleis

"2020 PLAYERS PRESENTS BLOC PARTY" down in bournemouth? or is that something else

forget that

its just a dj set by the looks of it

HA

Oh God, that's shite.

That

was no way near as good as I was expecting, lame!
