so ladies, the pill..........

microgynon to be exact. when you're on the weeks break, and you haven't quite finished your period, do you start taking it again anyway after the week is up?

also, the pill sucks. I'm now constantly hungry and overly emotional, is this what it's like to be a real girl?

  • Remind me what the instructions say

I do believe they are quite clear.

    • well it does say take after 7 days on the same day

I just assumed the period would've ended, online searches for FAQ hasn't helped

      • I was being a bit harsh

It's 28 day cycles. Take for 21 days, off for 7.
The periods can be very confused at first.

        • it is asking alot of where am I questions

          • If you started the first pack on a saturday

start your next pack on a saturday.

  • Why

    did i open this thread

    • dude. it's a period

      get over it!

      • I think I love Tristan

        • ...

I hate hoe freaked out boys get about periods when they're totally natrual

          • Yeah, like vomit and lions ravaging buffalo

  • Urm, yes

    otherwise you aren't covered.

    Microgynon is an awful pill!

    • of course

wow. I should've thought of that.

and yes, after much research on the web I have concluded the same.

weight gain, emotional instability and depression being very common side effects, why thank you doctor for giving me the cheapest pill you could and taking no regard for my mental wel being.

      • They palm it off to everyone

keep a diary, weigh yourself and take up lots of exercise. If you still have problems, ask to go on Yasmin - the best (and most expensive) pill ever.

        • Yasmin?!

          • Not bleech

or whatever that woman was called.

            • *bleeth

            • "Yasmin's Bleach"

"Coat yourself in this and no man will want to touch you."

        • yep

Yasmin seems to be the god of all pills from what I've been reading today.

I had an unexplained really bad headache last week, which I'm now convinced is connected.

          • i get slight headaches with Yasmin

but only when I run a pack together. Boy oh boy, it makes me suffer.

    • can you recommend a better one?

that's what they automatically put me on when i came to this country, even though i was on a completely different type in australia, so i am rather confused..

mine had 3 different phases/levels of hormones.

      • Yasmin

I have serious problems with weight gain and mood swings and after some research, they placed me on this one. However, you have to be under 12.5stone to go on it as it has a risk of blood clots.

I've never had any problems, my weight has kept down (I'm just under 12stone, and most of my teenage years I was 14/15stone), I have no spots and my mood swings are non existant.

        • many thanks!

          but when you say expensive...?

          • For the doctors to prescribe

but I get it free. However, I've been on it for 2 years and up until recently, I had to have 3 monthly check up. I finally have a 6 month prescription because I think they trust me not to gain weight again!

            • *you get it free

not I get it free. You know what I mean!

              • i get it now.

i always had to pay in oz but yeh, thought it was free here. nice how they just palm off the cheapest one on you - even though i turned up after ages of messing round to find the right one for me back in oz, described it to my doc & showed HER the packaging. bitch.

            • the pill should be free

as it's a method of contraception.

              I think that's right anyway.

              • But certains pills are expensive for the doc to prescribe

I should have explained more clearly!

        • i echo this.

my girlfriend uses yasmin and she has a very steady temperament.

      • bleak is sexually active

How do I do a raised eyebrow smiley?

  • i've never been on the pill

    thanks

  • I think my gf's on the pill

but I've never seen her taking it.. and she never seems to have this week off. Should I be worried?

    • Do you really want to be involved?

      the answer is no.

    • she might be on the minipill

you have to take it every day, and there are no breaks. you basically just don't get a period.

      • aah..

I didn't want to ask her.
The other girls I've been with who've been on the pill have all had 'that time of the month' type stuff.. must have been the old skool one.

      • what?

        there's no period?

        ever?

        FFS

        • not really.

maybe you should ask for it?

          it's Cerazette.

          • pah

I've been on Cerazette for 3 months and when they prescribed it (misprescribed, actually, they thought I had high blood pressure but the reader was wrong...they didn't care) I was all "hey! awesome! no periods! score!"

Well that's a whole pile of bollocks, now mine lasts three weeks at a freaking time.

I'm not pregnant, though, which is always a plus.

            • ...actually, this thread is now worrying me

is there something wrong with me? Stupid freakin' pill...

            • i think

that's because your body has to get used to it and doesn't know yet that there shouldn't be a period at all, so now you have spottings in the first months/s, you know..?

        • but you constantly worry about being pregnant

well, I did when I was on it.

      • that sounds scary

like one day your womb will burst and explode and period blood will spray everywhere

        • maybe

        • That sounds awesome.

Like an out-take from a tampax advert or something.

        • In all seriousness - what happens to the build up?

If you never have a period?

          • there is no build up, i think.

basically the messages that your brain sends to your womby bits get stopped. so the lining doesn't get formed. *i think*

            • so like a false menapause

            • ^this

              'something about hormones'

    • mine is too,

but I stand there and make sure she takes it every day. She knows what'll happen if she doesn't *smashy smashy*

      • Do you have to massage her throat to get her to swallow it

        like a cat?

        • nah,

I cup one hand over her mouth, the other hand pinches her nostrils closed.

          • If you accompany it by

repeated punches to the uterus, it's even less likely that she'll get pregnant!

    • Maybe she's on t'injection.

      • injection?

this world of contraceptive shenanigans is dead confusing.

        • There's an injection that 'they' can have

once every six months or so? In their bum. It means they get bigger mams and don't have to think about forgetting their pill and don't have periods. It's pretty much all win.

          • what

if it doesn't work though and while they think they aren't having a period because of the injection it's because they have a bun in the oven?

  • my housemate is on the pill

She went for an eye test last week and the Dr. told her that her eyes have changed shape and she'll need to order new contact lenses to fit her new peepers. Apparently being on the pill can do this, I found this hilarious.

    • seriously?

the pill is fucking scary. I'm not sure it's worth it....

    • What on earth?

      I have never heard that.

    • I thought it was pretty strange

but she was telling me about it in the kitchen last night.

It also made her 'boobs' bigger, which she wouldn't shut up about.

      • It means you get to stare at her tits though

        which can't be bad thing.

Unless she's got big fat floppy tits.

That would be a bad thing.

      • I swear this is a urban myth

as when you gain weight, the first place is usually goes is yr boobs.

        Fatty!

        • hah

brilliant, I shall make that point next time she brings it up.

        • ^

          yeah, i wish it would..
          i just get a fat tummy :'(

  • I <3 the pill

  • I wish I had a pill to take.

It's not fair. It's like a little secret club.

    • you do not want to be a member

it's the shittest club in the universe. ever.

      • i don't have any troubles at all!

though i seem to be quite lucky with these things. *touch wood*

        • maybe your doctor had a conscience

and didn't just stick you on the cheapest one without listening to your concerns.

and it was a women. fucking bitch.

    • isn't there some male pill

      in development?

I doubt any woman would trust them to take it every day.

      • that's because no

        male would.

  • yes you do

    • thanks

here I go again then. I'm giving it one more month before I either explode in some kind of hormonal atom bomb, eat myself to death, or go to the doctor and ask to be changed to a different one.

      • definitely

go and ask for another one if you're not comfortable, what is there to lose??

  • 21 days on

7 days off, no matter if you're still having a period or not.

Expect it to take three months for your body to settle to a new pill.

Expect to be slightly psychotic, emotional and to have everything swollen and hurty in the interim.

It's absolutely fine when you get used to it, but you do have to be on the right one for your body/own hormone levels. So if you're four months in and still feeling like you want to kill everything that walks past you, ask the doctor to switch it for you.

    • Oh and

particularly in the early stages, it really helps if you're regimented about the time of day you take it - same time every day, otherwise your body will go a bit nuts/have constant interim bleeding that will feel like three day periods.

  • PS

wasn't geronimo the name of the reusuable condom that an old man had in the olden days?
Anybody remember that safe sex advert form the early/mid 90s?

  • come off it...

people are eating their lunch, ffs. I don't want to read about women bleading from their genitals.

  • ever let a guy have sex with you without telling him that you're on?

  • yes you do.

and yes i hated that. putting on weight through hormones sucks.

    • yeah...

      :'(
and not even in the right places!
