:( I had a bloody ace weekend - best festival I've ever been to. But looking back at these boards I'm beginning to regret some of my decisions..
LEONARD COHEN: Really wanted to see him, but lost track of time in the Green Fields and ended up missing him.
ELBOW: Decided that as I'd seen them at Festival Hall the week before I'd go to Simian Mobile Disco instead. It was rubbish, and so was the sound. And my friends who saw Elbow said it was their fave show of the weekend.
KINGS OF LEON: I sat getting hammered instead, cos I was miles away and having loads of fun. Still had fun, like, but woulda like to have seen them.
LYKKE LI: I don't even know what happened here. I managed to miss BOTH shows.
So, basically, I'm too lazy and unorganised for a festival as big as Glasto. Give me 'one field Reading' any day....
if it's any consolation
i missed jeff buckley in 95 cause i was queueing for a potato.
and a mate stood and wtahed him next to bernard butler who was my fave guitarist at the time. :(
that's
quite wonderful actually - I hope that potato was the best fucking potato ever.
I can probably beat that
As i missed Radiohead in whatever year they headlined after releasing OK Computer as was in a real mess and ended up watching Kula Shaker instead FUCKING KULA SHAKER!!
Oh dear
I was forced into seeing Kula Shaker at V2006. I feel your pain.
What's worse about that was they played the next day instead of Neil Young
I met a girl who'd seen Kula Shaker instead of Radiohead and was actually clearly quite depressed that she got them instead of both Radiohead and Neil Young in the end. Oh dear.
BUT
Jeff Buckley was actually rubbish that day - in both my opinion and by common consent, even amongst his bigger fans.
that's interesting ...
I saw him for the first and only time that day, decided it was awful and walked out after a few songs ... have since never bothered with listening to any of his stuff figuring he was just overrated and not for me ... but maybe he was ok after all and I've been needlessly avoiding his music for 13 years, despite all the plaudits, because of one duff gig ... ho hum
I missed Morrissey
In favour of near-suicidal vodka consumption at reading a few years back. I remember hearing him do 'There is a light...' in the distance, but not feeling I could tear myself away from the evil spirit.
I think you did ok, although Lykke Li is dead good live, better than her record.
I saw...
Cohen, Elbow and Lykke Li. And just to make you feel even worse they were pretty much the three best things I saw all weekend.
I'm gutted that I went to see Massive Attack instead of Jay Z and fell asleep. Just watched Jay Z on the bbc iplayer and it looked boss.
i miss leonard cohen
for spiritualized. which is just aaboutt okay. but i wish id seen leonard too.
i also missed battles cos i was totally conked out on a bin bag.
ah cool
Now I can do the bragging. That final run on Saturday of MGMT, Battles, CSS was absolutely bloody ACE.
Sorry.
its okay
mgmt are lame and i cant really stand CSS.
hehe. sorry. battles though. still upset.
Not much of a fan of MGMT or CSS either
but they were actually quite entertaining.
Or maybe I'd just spent too much time at the bar.
I slept through The Arcada Fire at Glastonbury last year.
and I missed Earth at ATP...
...because I was watching Sports Personality of the Year.
I missed Shellac at last years ATP
to watch the worst FA cup final ever
Ha!
We tried watching the cup final on the screens above the Sports Bar doors, while listening to Shellac, but yeah, our interest waned.
It was really shit
I should have done the sports bar option.
I paid £350
to go to last years cup final, after turning down £1200 for one ticket outside promising myself it would be entertaining...
We lost...
It was awful...
Fail!

KOL were shit.
O really,
Why do you say this? What could they have done to make it a good performance?
They should have turned it down.
I don't think they have the tunes to headline.
There was not enough Aha Shake Heartbreak in there. They weren't special enough - setlistwise or performancewise.
I know everyone hates music which is old and good, but this Glasto lacked an oldtimer headlining. Leonard Cohen headlining would have been better. Anyone. KOL just don't have it.
*KOL ARE shit.
.
KINGS OF LEON
Biggest pile of shit i've ever heard/seen.
I've watched them at Glastonbury 3 times now. Once in 2003 in the New Band Tent, then in 2004 on the Pyramid before Oasis. Both times they were awful, so i should've known what to expect. But they had a headline slot, So i thought i'd give them a whirl cause the last album was aces. Surely they must've improved by now?
HA! How wrong i was. Still absolutely the most charmless, soulless, boring live band i'll ever, ever see. If they at least looked like they were having a good time that'd be half the battle won. Shame really, because the last album was quite a corker. This was the only blip in an otherwise flawless weekend. I enjoyed them less than the migraine i got on the wednesday night.
Leonard Cohen was worth £155 on his own
Everything else was a bonus
^^^I agree.
You are always gonna miss bands and for many stupid reasons but thats all part of the festival going experience.
I missed elbow this year and it bothered me massively as I have never seen them before. But hey ho.
anyone else
see Pnau in the Pussy Parlour?
or The Presets?
i have a few regrets
saw the the cribs instead of Franz Ferdinand and Dizzee Rascal. not sure that was a superb decision
the best decision i made was seeing my morning jacket over the shitty verve!
agreed
i also went to see My Morning Jacket and then sprinted to catch the end of The National rather than Verve or UNKLE and i was very glad i did.
Franz were very good but i got bored by Dizzee this time so left for someone else i forget.
I missed
Cohen, Battles, Spiritualized, The National & Hot Chip as they're all playing Benicassim so should catch them there.
I thought MGMT at The Park were amazing, highlight of my weekend but I do wish i'd seen Elbow.
I went home on Sunday afternooon
as my body could stand no more. This meant I missed The National. Sad Face.
Missed Cohen
due to poor organization on my part; didn't want to miss Tunng at the Park and then met a mate who'd seen both. Curses!
at Reading '98
I passed out in a shattered drunken mess after Deftones, near the new bands tent, where I was very-very close to seeing Elliott Smith's last show in the UK. A few years later I became a huge fan.
sigh
we had tickets for that Elliott Smith festival hall show with an orchestra that was cancelled, that's a huge regret that didn't happen :/
It's not the same level as everyone else but I had to leave early when the microphones played toynbee arts cafe a few years ago, only to find he'd done a few songs live with the swirlies, who'd supported, one of my favourite bands! Also sadface for every time I saw CPWK in the gig guide and thought "ah, am tired, they'll play next month..."
