anyone else excited about this and going? Any idea what to expect?...
The new album is slowly growing on me but it's by no means a masterpiece. Still, they can't all be zingers.

About to book tickets for friday
Really don't like Distortion one bit... anyone know if the set will comprise more of the, er, "nice" songs?!
^
i'm not going to the munich show this friday 'cause distortion isn't amazing and it's 35 € for a ticket. rip.off.
I think
the new album is great. One of the most underrated so far this year.
terrible new album
ticks off every single cliche you could associate with bright eyes/sufjan stevens-era american indie; fey, pseudo-literate lyrics, 'ironic' songs about california girls, heads continually up the collective arse of americana pastiche.
plus, stephen merritt has a hearing condition that keeps him from being able to work with high-pitched sounds, but decides to crib heavily from Psychocandy regardless. of course the album was going to be abysmal.
i really
don't see that at all. have you ever heard Sufjan/Bright Eyes?!
to me it sounds just like the Magnetic Fields but with some Psychocandy guitar fuzz (agree with you on that one).
yes i am looking forward to this, am going for the friday gig in Cadogan Hall (anyone been there before? good venue?).
what are you talking about?
I don't see what Distortion has to do with Bright Eyes, Sufjan Stevens, or their "era of American Indie" at all. I mean, Distortion is by no means a classic, but it's a damn sight better than 'I' but if your criticism of the album is that it's too full of "Americana pastiche", then the rule applies for a lot of his music, especially 69 Love Songs, and I think this partly why people like his approach to songwriting. I don't see how firstly, it makes this album noticeable worse than his others because of it, and I don't see what it has to do with any era of indie music whatsoever.
Id love to be at this
but unfortunatly cant make it grr
I'm excited
and think Distortion is briliant.
this is on friday night in london next week?
i'll be down, so i might go!
and wednesday
and thursday
not sure if there's any tickets left mind.
So did anyone go to this?
Am thinkabouting going tonight to pick up a ticket. Can't decide. What was the consensus for weds and thurs?
Wednesday was very, very good indeed
I'd definitely try to make it if I were you!
wednesday
was great. Lovely music, intimate venue. I figured they're unlikely to tour again soon (or ever?) so go!
