but i've heard an 'old wives tale' that eating locally produced honey can help relieve symptoms in some way, something to do with ingesting small traces of pollen or something so you build up some level of tolerance, no idea if it actually helps or not but it's a good excuse to eat nice honey.
pills wise, i think there are 2 different types so it's just a case of experimenting and seeing which ones work best. don't bother getting brand name ones like Clarityn because they're exactly the same as others but about £2 more expensive.
i got prescribed these eye drops once and they were amazing. not preventative though, but if your symptoms flared up they really helped keep things under controll.

get nose sprays and eye drops as well as antihistamines, and start taking them 1 month before symptoms usually start.

probably won't help with the hayfever but it should take your mind off it for a bit:)
if you're inside or just come in
change your clothes.
outside and inside: wear sunglasses.
sunglasses are essential
and keeping your hair short is good as well. my symptons have backed right off since i cut my hair a bit.
