Update! Battles and Soulwax WILL play Wild in the Country

Battles @ Astoria, 14.05.08

UPDATED: Scroll to end of article

This just in, courtesy of a DiS reader...

Following yesterday's news that Björk has pulled out of Wild in the Country, held on July 5 at Knebworth Park, word reaches us that both Battles and Soulwax will apparently not be playing.

Says our source:

"[Seetickets, where I bought my tickets] said that they had information that Soulwax had pulled out also. Also, a contact of mine is the tour manager for Battles and he informed us that they will not be performing either, as WITC were only offering them half the original fee to play.

"WITC have also issued instructions not to give refunds for the event! I’m trying to get my money back and I’m sure other people will be also!"

DiS has had Seetickets on the phone, and a spokesman told us that they've no information on either act pulling out. So: is a DiS reader ahead of the game, or are they out to scupper the festival?

The truth is out... DiS contacted the festival - official website here - and heard back from them to the tune of no panic, both bands are playing. So there you go. Drama over.

Sh!t

that don't look good does it? And there was me thinking this was going to be amazing... too good to be true I s'pose. thank f**k i didn't get a ticket...sorry for people who did though :(

Jesus

A cancellation must be imminent...

Was Jesus one of the headliners ?

has he pulled out too ?

so unreliable

turns up unannounced half the time

They have

to issue refunds now, surely?

it'll be absolutley fucking shocking

if they don't.

3 top acts pulling out (including headliner)

they can't NOT issue refunds. That would be beyond f**king disgraceful.

i feel so sorry

for the organisers of this festival. they're screwed.

Blame the credit crunch!

Tough break for the organisers, it actually looked like one of the better festivals this year too.

that is it

i was half debating going regardless, but seeing sa the other big draw for me, and two of the curiousities (I take it 2 many DJs are out as well?)

at least I SHOULD be able to get a full refund now

Wow, that's 3 big acts

to pull out. Surely they can't not issue refunds, particularly as it doesn't look like there's not much to fill the gap.

I just phoned See

and they've told me that Battles and Soulwax are still on the bill.

They're also both listed on the official site still ?

aye, i am bit concerned by the 'our source told us'

it does sound a bit like a Sun football rumour

They're out of luck then

If two headliners have pulled, they'll be selling zero tickets unless they can replace them. And it's a bit late in the day to be scouting for new headliners you can only pay half the going rate.

Sadface for the people who've bought tickets to this one.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

that's the last time i try and go to a festival.

I'm expecting a call from Trading Standards about this

I'm sick of being fobbed off with 'it's not about one act it's about the whole event' excuse. My ticket says 'Bjork + guests', she's pulled out, now the Battles and Soulwax have cancelled too, so I want my money back. Fucking madness.

Just go watch Sasha..

.. and dance for 12 hrs. Sorted.

Ah, holier than thou is see?

Well, I'll be having more fun than you, chemically imbibed or not.

No, not really

I just think Sasha is pants. I saw half hour of his set at TDK a few years back and it was incredibly dull.

flucking hell!

i was SO looking forward to this. now i am just going to be angry the whole time. :(

from the renaissance forum

"Apparently the Battles is a rumour thats being investigated, and soulwax are still confirmed. This was based on a phone conversation with Rennaisance as of 12:15"

not an official response, just thought I'd add to the rumour mill.

Bollocks

In regards to WITP declining to refund - as soon as it was confirmed Bjork was out they gave the go ahead to issue refunds as long people get the tickets back to point of purchase before the festival.

where

did you hear this?

i read that too

possibly on the forum post which broke the news? I'm not sure.

I work

for "a major ticket agency" so I read it in an email. It's true honest guv..

That's not what

several friends of mine with tickets have been hearing.

basically

from what i've been told - it's you've bought a ticket, we've pulled the main headliner, suck it up - we've already got your money.

Who

did you book with?

i got mine from

renaissance on their website. So far my requests for a refund have been met with "you've bought a ticket for the event, not any one act" type responses.

yeah!

renaissance - i'm such a doofus!

Until we hear official announcements...

...either from the promoters or the bands themselves about all this I would be inclined to ignore this “I’ve got a friend of a friend who says….” style rumour mongering.

I've got a friend who is a top promoter

and he says... They have to give refunds if a headliner pulls out. Apparantly this has been challenged in court before.

He reckons as soon as Renaissance check with their lawyer they'll have no choice.

they are both still playing

^

where

did you hear that?

See's CS

Advised me to call back tomorrow to see about a refund because they had heard that other bands were dropping out and were just waiting for confirmation.

Useful information

just posted on the renaissance forum:

"To anyone who thinks that the T&Cs on the ticket deny them the right to a refund, they don't, since they constitute unfair terms of contract.
The OFT recently ruled against Mean Fiddler Music Group and forced them to amend their T&Cs to prevent them reserving the right to change the headline act even for festivals, if there is a named headliner.

It makes ***k all difference if WITC is primarily a dance music event, Renaissance have traded on the basis of having Bjork. Losing Bjork through reasons under their control (i.e. not meeting her production demands, regardless of what they may be) makes them basically in breach of contract and liable to either
a. refund the tickets or
b. refund the financial loss consequent upon the absence of Bjork (i.e. partial refund)."

Hope that's useful to some of you!

From Efestivals.co.uk:

"The organisers have also confirmed that contrary to some reports both Battles, and Soulwax (the latter are curating a whole tent at the event) will still be appearing."

http://www.efestivals.co.uk/news/080701d.shtml

It would appear that your DiS reader is talking out of their a*se. No doubt some bitter Bjork fan who's got the hump because SHE decided to cancel her appearance without giving 2 sh*ts about any of her fans who may have bought tickets for this or her rescheduled Sheffield gig (which she has now cancelled indfinitely just 1 day before it was due to happen).

Should really check your sources non?

Suppose that would have gotten in the way of a semi-interesting story though.

If I get a sniff of something...

...it's worth posting and waiting on confirmation... organisers/PR are saying yes they're both playing... hence the above... but a further update is to follow as that's not the whole truth.

Ok

I heard a strong rumour that the woman from The Ting Tings used to be a horse...from a concrete source too.

Post it!

I heard that

Bjork's replacement will be Har Mar Superstar.

SeeTickets

have changed their terms and conditions to say that "details of the event are significantly changed after an order is placed (significant changes being a change of headline act (concerts only)"

'(Concerts only)' did not appear in the Ts and Cs I took a screenshot of this morning.

shaking my head at you DIS

i'm a big fan of this site and it helps get me through the working day but i gotta say that the above piece of reporting (especially in its non-updated state but even now), was pretty silly and pointless. given that it was bound to cause some annoyance, praps you could've held off writing it till you had some more reliable sources... wouldnt want to start DIStrusting your reports innit.

On the Warp website

it still states clearly "05 London, UK - Knebworth Festival (w/ Bjork) BATTLES ARE NO LONGER PLAYING"

They've changed it

Fickle Beatniks

The article never said 100%

that they were not playing, merely a contact had informed us they'd heard neither were... as it turns out Battles are not, so the information was a clean 50% sound.

Actually mike

Latest news is that battles ARE still playing, so your information appears to be a big fat 0% sound. Always next time though eh?

Hey...

don't have a go at DiS! it was reporting the word on the street! If Warp had it on their own site that Battles weren't playing it was right for DiS to voice the concern... now its been rectified, no worries. Least DiS is keeping us up to date.

Ooo I thought it was gonna be like Northern Rock all over again! ;D

...

That note on the warp website didn’t appear until AFTER this new article. DiS should’ve checked their sources rather than rushing out some unverified rumour based on something sent to him by a reader who “has a contact who says…” – Lazy journalism is what it is.
