Sorry for being late, but my BBQ lasted longer then planned ^.^ right so i'm stinking hungover but LETS DO THIS

This weeks choice is braught to you by: theetersecrimp

The album you ask?
Lightning Bolt - Wonderful Rainbow
Experimental/Post Rock/Indie

In case its unique brand of sonic assault and battery didn't leave you lying dead on the floor with your spleen poking halfway out your gaping mouth the first time around, Lightning Bolt is back for a second strafing run on your sense of mental and musical balance. Think you're up for it? Well, maybe you are, but only if you leave your volume knob down between two and three. It's hard to believe that all this noise is made by only a guitarist and a drummer, and it's sometimes even harder to believe that no electronic manipulation is involved. But, however, it is they who create this glorious ruckus, it's a sound that attracts at least as strongly as it repels, and there are a few tracks (let's not call them "songs," thank you) on Wonderful Rainbow that come perilously close to actually having hooks. The brilliant "Dracula Mountain," for example, with its heavily processed and thoroughly indecipherable vocals, or the equally baffling and wonderful "Assassins," both of which pummel and dance in equal measure. In fact, the only real misstep here is "Duel in the Deep," which clocks in at an eventually tedious six minutes. At its best, though, this album is like having a beautiful girl hit you repeatedly over the head with a baseball bat. Imagine all the best aspects of Fred Frith, Derek Bailey, the Ruins, Slayer, and Ornette Coleman all thrown into a blender together. Then imagine them on speed. This one's a keeper.

****

Looking forward to it as I HAVE NEVER heard this band before in my life.

Woo woo!

Haven't listened to Wonderful Rainbow in soooo long.

but you choose it

surely you can listen to it when you want. haha

Is this one going to be tricky to find?

How did you know that?!

And yes I can, it's just one of those albums that's been collecting dust for too long.

because in the first post it says

This weeks choice is braught to you by: theetersecrimp

Definitely,

everyone who hasn't heard it is in for a real treat.

excellent.

i saw LB live once and they were GRATE.

Good stuff!

This'll sort the men from the boys, yuk yuk yuk

CASHBACK!

I already own this : D and love it

excellent

i have a couple of songs from this album i downloaded from soulseek back in the day. time to invest in the whole album? maybe...

YES

I bought Hypermagic Mountain recently & loved it, looking forward to hearing this.

30 second previews only

i hate indie labels that do this :(

this sounds awesome

A band I've never properly explored and an amazing sounding one at that. This is why this whole album thing is such a good idea :)

Never heard this guys either

So I'm mighty excited.

im excited to hear this :)

dont own any lighting bolt so its all new.i LOVE this idea.

thats so wierd

i only got this like 2 weeks ago and have been loving it since!

I listend to it today

considering I was hungover as hell, I still really enjoyed it! Can't wait to hear it when i'm more in the mood for it.

I've been...

meaning to check them out for a long, long time. Will have a search for this now. :)

Schaweet!

I only have Hypermagic Mountain, this is a great excuse to explore their other work :D

Erm....

Emusic don't have it, itunes don't have it, needless to say Canterbury HMV don't have it. I would order it on Amazon but it might not get to me in time for me to properly absorb it before Thursday.

So... could anyone help me out here? PM me would be nice...

Ta.

listening to it now

it's like the worst produced record ever but it TOTALLY SLAYS \m/

slays

totally slays. TOTALLY SLAYS. RAAAARGGGHHHHHHHHH

i'd say its perfectly

produced. it sounds exactly how they want it to. it makes my head bang.

i dunno

it captures the muscle of their live show but not quite the in-your-FACE-ness.

bump

I can't be the only person that missed this....

oh...

...and good choice btw.

Im on my first listen

this album is amazing, I can't beleive I have not heard it before.

Im immediatly putting it in my top 50 albums.

thanks theetersecrimp

The DiS weekly album club

changing people's top 50s since 2008.

Bloody nora!

This is incredible! I decided not tolread the Wikipedia or the Allmusic review and just listen to it and christ it is pretty much an assault on your ears. Quite the choice.

Two weeks down, two quite amazing albums. I shall see how this one changes in my opinion as the week goes on but... blimey.

I'm enjoying listening to this again so much

Assassins is just complete mindless fun!

This album in the sonic equivalent of having a seizure.

In other words: pretty pretty pretty good.

..

everyone loves seizures?

Sorry

I realised it made no sense after posting.

Baaaaaasically I really like the album, and if I was to imagine what a seizure would sound like, this would be similar.

It shouldn't of said 'having' really.

Thank you :D

I really don't think it was

the 'having' word that ruined the analogy

Looks like it right now :(

maybe give it time? If not don't worry as next weeks album goes a completely different direction.

How has the who-gets-which-week been sorted?

Is it the first to ask or something?

O you know when people were giving me album titles

I just added them next to a number on the list at random, the was no method or technique behind this I just put it next to a number, for example the person before you could of got 34 when u could of got 13.

Have you got all the

albums sorted for each week now then, or do you need any more?

Oh and bloody hell......

I just listened to the Lightning Bolt record for the first time through. Pretty incredible!!

After the first 3 tracks you wonder if they can keep the intensity up for the whole duration of the record....damn right they can!

It might just have made it into my top albums list too. Now for another listen.

I have a full list right now

depending on the success I may ask for more

Ah ok.

I'm a latecomer to the weekly album club, so won't be on the list, which is ok, as I'm more into the discovering than pimping of albums.

Based on Hypermagic Mountain this is a good choice.

Although I haven't got my copy yet. ;(

Thoughts so far?

I think this album will get some of the largest posetive responses yet. I'm loving it so far :D

PS- To people that made requests at Zonino the list is already full :)

Also if you haven't already then join the last.fm group http://tinyurl.com/6r5yun for easier to find disscusions on past albums, a reasource to find albums you may of missed being posted here as well as links to the artist pages and the album being discussed on said week, considering some artists have whole albums up on DiS then this could be a great tool :D

Also logic is correct and Lightning Bolt is the most listend to album this week, thank God... the SYSTEM WORKS

i was thinking the other day

as i was listening to it while walking to the shops that its the kind of album where you can't help but nod your head and scrunch up your face into a 'RARR' face.

RARR!! :@

RAAAWRRRRRRR

the bit 59 seconds in Towers on Fire.

FUCK YES.

I foolishly had always ignored Lightning Bolt

but from the first listen it was like the sort of record I had wanted to hear all my life.
It's just incredible.
Are they still active? do they tour often?

you know

when you are listening to a 'nice' album and you wish it had a bit more balls and a bit more noise?

and you know when you are listening to a noise album and you just wish it had a fucking tune as well, or a beat to dance to?

Ta-da!

what a fucking record!

neither have i (in fact i haven't bought it yet)

you should though based on the amazingness of Hypermagic Mountain.

Under 24hrs to go till the next one oooOOoOOOOOOoOoOOOoO
