You're a football manager with £8million to spend on a new striker

You ask around and find that your number 1 target Peter Crouch is out of your price range. Luckily a couple of clubs come back saying that for £8million you can have their top strikers. The first is Real Zaragoza who say that their prolific Argentinian international Diego Milito is available, the second is Sheffield United saying that you can have James Beattie for the £8million. Who do you go for?

Diego Milito

Though i can imagine some would go for old beattie. Fools.

.

That was to ht27.

And being serious, Milito, every single time.

Is this a trick question?

Or is it really as glaringly obvious as it seems?

Also which team is this about?

Fucking Pompey

Surely??

How old is Milito these days?

It would probably depend on who else is in your squad.
8 million for Beattie though?

Well done Arry

You're posting.

I was about to start a thread asking if you're about.

I'll just bump an old one from your profile instead.

It certainly wouldn't be

Andy "Andrew" Johnson.

Is this about Middlesborough?

I always assume threads about paying fuckloads for average players will involve Middlesborough somewhere along the line...

.

Pah, the days of boro spending loads on average players are gone, ahem, almost. We've been linked with Harper from Reading for £3.5milion, why?!?

There was a rumour

If that happened Southgate would be lynched.

It's a rhetorical question

but I've read today that both Milito and Beattie are available and both are available for £8million.

You'd take Milito for £8mil

Beattie though?

I know

I choked on my marmite toast this morning when I read that.

I'm not suprised

he's championship level at best.

I want us to buy Messi

In fact I'd rather we had him rather than ronaldo

*Mr Messy

(best Mr Man as he's a giant scribble with a face)

Milito is not that good

but then again neither is Beattie, I'd buy Shefki Kuqi instead and get quite a bit of change from 8 million

It's an odd one.

Six months ago Zaragoza could've got £15m for Milito, now they've gone down and even though Barca, Real, Sevilla & Valencia might all need new forwards they can't seem to find suitors other than Man City. I actually like Beattie, but he's not good enough to do a job for a top four club. Those aside i think he could be a crafty buy for anyone in the next bunch; Villa, Newcastle, City, Spurs, Pompey. He seems to have unfairly got a reputation as a bit of a fat waster, but look at his record, apart from Moyes' attempts to ruin him he's banged in goals everywhere he's been. Is he worth £8m? No, but if a big club comes in and he says he wants to leave you're probably looking more at £4m-£5m.

Kenwyn JOnes

uh huh

I heart Kenwynne

His interview insouciance is the cherry on his athleticism (copyright M. Lawrenson describing any black footballer ever).

spurs?

as in really? you think we should buy beattie? i mean james beattie? the one who was good in the championship, but not that good at all in the prem? JAMES BEATTIE?!

I honestly think it would be a canny buy.

Let's be honest, David Villa's not going to come & Berba's offskis. I don't think a target-man would be a bad call. Not as inspiring as some of the others mentioned, but he's not worse than Lukas Podolski or Milito.

In fairness he was brilliant in the Premiership at Southampton

And he made his reputation as Premier League striker. Last season was the first he's spent in the Championship.

At the same time I don't think he's Spurs level. I think he's a good-signing for anyone in the middle of table who wants a reliable 10 - 15 goal a season striker but not an £8m one.

he had one good season at southampton

and was their star man yeah, but after that, what has he done?

hes not bad, but i agree, we should be looking at better players if we want to progress

I wouldn't have thought that Spurs would go for him

He did look promising at Southampton, but hasn't really delivered on what it looked like he could be capable of. £8mil is way too much I'd say. Then again didn't he go for £6mil last time?

milito

easily.
