what did people think of Maximo Park at the time?

Apologies, i'm just syphoning through piles of stuff. I remember both albums being pretty strong. I think they were one of only a handfull of bands who got the nobby mainstream plaudits but still actually made easily digestible and fun records. I don't listen to them any more but unlike a lot of the stuff i'm finding they retained some credibility, no?

  • absolutely wrong forum.

    mer.

  • Heh, "at the time"

"Maximo Park! You do remember them? With the hat, and that one about velocity, yeah? You liked them at the time"

    • tbh, i think a year's a long time.

i certainly don't listen to any of the bands now that i did twelve months ago.

  • The second album seemed to get a bad reception

I never listned to it. I liked the first one a lot.

  • Didn't think much of them at the time

and even less of them now.
I thought the frontman looked a bit like a mobile phone salesman.

  • Liked them then and now

Saw them for the sixth time at the Forum a couple of months ago, they now have a really strong catalogue of songs and Paul has become an amazing front man. The couple of new tracks they played sounded promising too.

  • didn't get them until I saw them live

Brilliant live, all right on record. Our Velocity is still a cracking song.

  • I was knocked dead by A Certain Trigger

Being 13, and having only Franz and a few others for my 'indie' backdrop, they came at the right time and secured a place in my heart.

Second album was weaker, but I turned my younger brother into an absolute fanatic so I got to hear it all the time on family holidays and I still really like them.

But yeah, this thread seems a bit like an obituary.

  • At the time?!

I hate the way music moves so quickly these days. ANyway. The first album is fucking brilliant, and Our Velocity is the best single of last year, or whenever.

    • loved the first album

second was not too bad but just not as good.

    • bamos, stop writing my opinions please

      Its really weirding me out.

  • Anyone remember

those big summer gigs that Radiohead did in a park in East London?

    • Man they sucked

  • i hated them, and i've always hated them.

    the singer irritates me.

    • He is very irritating onstage actually

and a bit of a knob off it to boot.
