Radiohead deliver the hits at second London show
Posted: 26 Jun '08, 10:33
Radiohead delivered the hits last night in London, at their second show at Hackney's Victoria Park.
The band received criticism from some quarters following their first night's performance, which didn't include the band's OK Computer-period hits (although it did feature 'Climbing Up The Walls', 'The Tourist' and 'Airbag'; read our review here). Last night, they pulled out the big guns: 'Lucky', 'Karma Police', 'No Surprises' and, to close, 'Paranoid Android', their highest-charting single.
The band also played 'My Iron Lung' and 'The Bends', from their second album The Bends. Last year's In Rainbows was well represented, as expected, with selections including 'Nude' and '15 Step' (both delivered the night before, too).
The setlist from last night (June 25) was as follows:
'Reckoner'
'15 Step'
'There There'
'All I Need'
'Lucky'
'Nude'
'Weird Fishes/Arpeggi'
'Myxomatosis'
'National Anthem'
'Faust Arp'
'No Surprises'
'Jigsaw Falling Into Place'
'Optimistic'
'Videotape'
'Everything In Its Right Place'
'Idioteque'
'Bodysnatchers'
- - -
'House of Cards'
'The Bends'
'Bangers and Mash'
'My Iron Lung'
'Karma Police'
- - -
'Go Slowly'
'2+2=5'
'Paranoid Android'
DiScuss: Were you at both London shows? Which set did you most enjoy? Are you seeing Radiohead in Manchester or Glasgow? Excited?
-
glasgow tomorrow
popping the old Radiohead cherry. Both this set and the one before look cracking - I think I'll be happy with anything!
-
RADIOHEAD PLAY GIG!
Is this news?
-
You read it.
I WIN.

Went on Tuesday
Really quite happy that I didn't go last night instead. "Ooh, let's finish with 'Paranoid Android', no-one will be expecting that."
We got to hear what THEY wanted to play, not what THE CROWD wanted them to play. And if they're happy, then I'm happy!
-
so they don't like the songs they played last night?
-
apparently
they're only meant to play songs which the crowd aren't expecting..
"and for our next song, we'll be covering Umbrella!"
-
-
-
I can't bring myself to be bitter
I heard The Tourist
-
exactly
-
and 'Climbing up the walls'
which was absolutely brilliant. And I would rather they finished with 'Idioteque' as well.
Excited about seeing them again at werchter next week. Anyone know if they have played 'the rip' live yet. That would be very special.

i think
it is largely irrelevant whether radiohead "played the hits" or not. I went last night and i really could have done with some amnesiac songs but i am still in shock from simply how amazing karma police sounded.
swings and roundabouts innit
-
swings and roundabouts?
is that a new one?
-
-
2+2=5
is the only track out of those that I'm disappointed they didn't play on Tuesday
-
i was there...
last night but wished i've had been at tuesday instead...!personally would have preferred to hear that particular set. the 'hits' just seem to bring out the worst in people...so many pissed townie wankers 'moshing' because they're incapable of appreciating music in any way other than pushing and elbowing those 'enjoying' the music around them. can't fault the band's performance, it was mesmerising but i can't help feeling ever so slightly annoyed by the idiots surrounding me...!oh, and they didn't play 'climbing up the walls'...
-
I was at both
and wednesday was better for me, mainly because I could gage where to stand, avoid the day tripper freaks and got to here My Iron Lung & them end on Paranoid Android. Tuesday was my first time seeing them and was still something special though.
-
The day trippers...
...or whatever more offensive name you want to give them really pissed me off. Too many people with little/no interest in the music, and instead talking all the way through. I'm no uberfan, but I didn't feel the need to talk all the way through the songs that I didn't know!
Being the badfan that I am, I am glad I went to Wednesday rather than Tuesday; it was quite nice to hear the hits.

Went on Wednesday night.....
Was absolutely blown away, this was the 2nd time seeing them(1st being Glastonbury '03) and this was a GREAT gig, preferred to see this set, instead of Tuesdays, seems that this set was the 2nd rarest on the current tour.
(by the way 'The Rip' has been used for soundcheck but not played live as yet!)
The lights/set was amazing, and they seemed to enjoy it as much as the fans did, thought the crowd wasn't to bad myself, ok you'll always get a few talking here & there, but I've been to a lot worse crowds.
Shame I didn't find out where the after-party was, as would have loved to been there....For anyone going to the other gigs on tour, you'll love it, they were on top form, hate to sound OTT, but last night was a night to remember!
-
Totally agree
Also my 2nd time, my first having been Glastonbury 2003. That probably ranks as my all-time for any band (and yes I have been to a few in my time, as I approach my thirties) but I thought Wednesday was a great set. London crowds of that size always attract a few wankers, but if you know how to avoid them you can have a great time.
I like the line "In Rainbows was well represented", they played all 10 tracks!

long time no hear
This was the second time I've seen them, the first being at Brixton around the time of The Bends. Put off by the "difficult" tag I haven't bought any albums since the Bends either but, as they were playing a 10 minute walk from home, we decided to go.... and they were great. It probably would have been better if I'd known some more of the stuff but, bearing that in mind, I was really impressed. They can still build ethereal atmosphere and then change everything by rocking out when required. I may even go and catch up on their back catalogue now. Needless to say, I was very happy to hear The Bends and My Iron Lung, but can someone explain why you pay £50 for a ticket ansd then spend the entire gig talking to your mates ? We moved several times to get away from such idiots.
-
Hmm
I don't know which I would have preferred - Optimistic would have been a live treat, but hey, can't complain with Airbag, Planet Telex and Pyramid Song. Actually, I don't really like it when they play the big songs, as the cunts in the crowd make themselves immediately apparent, like the 17 year olds that barged by when they played Just on tuesday...
-
glasgow tomorrow
and although ideally for me personally its all post kid A material, 'fake plastic trees' would be nice.
but, I don't really mind what I get, I'm just happy to be seeing them and hope the crowd and the band are happy.
wow, this responce is really wishy-washy, HOLD UP:
IF THEY DON'T PLAY IDIOTEQUE THEN I WILL SUICIDE BOMB. I'M LISTENING TO FUCKED UP, NOT FLEET FOXES.
-
At first i was a bit gutted
having gone on tuesday (to see them for the fist time) and now having seen this set list, but then theres no pyramid song, dollars and cents, just, climbing up the walls, you and whose army, planet telex etc Tuesday was still brilliant.
If youre a radiohead-head you're not going to be satisfied going to just 1 show, and I cant wait to see them again :)
-
Everything...
Wednesday's set was outstanding. I was glad they played so much of the In Rainbows material, it is so much more immediate, challenging and relevant than their older hits. The Bends and My Iron Lung were great to hear, but they almost seemed (dare I say it) boring compared to their latest output. I just wish I had politely informed the guy behind me that he doesn't, and will never, sound like Thom when he sings. Although it would be churlish to ruin someone's enjoyment of an incredible evening so perhaps it's best I didn't.

I'd completely forgotten about the planes in the sky nearly missing each other
Until I saw this review/illustration when googling for reviews:
http://www.disposablemedia.co.uk/music/live-reviews/radiohead-live-at-victoria-park-250608/
It was ace...everyone near me gave a cheer when they missed. Even though they were probably 20 miles from each other or whatever.
