Where to start with Hefner?

Looking at there website they've done tons of albums.

  • Do it chornologically through their proper studio albums...

That doesn't leave too many, but enough.

    • Can't go far wrong with that.

My favourite is The Fidelity Wars.
Darren Hayman's favourite is We Love The City.

      • Rly?

On Hefnet, he talks about The Fidelity Wars being "his" record, so I assumed that it would be his favourite. Mine is Breaking God's Heart, for the record.

        • Yes, really...

Breaking God's Heart is Darren's least favourite, because he was being all lo fi belligerent 'we're going to record this in one take' and now thinks it should've sounded better. And the Fid Wars subject matter probably makes it pretty hard to re-listen to, if you're him too. Ummm... what was the question? Oh right. Start with the Best Of, see whether you like it and if so start at the beginning. Not the very very beginning, obv, because copies of the Devotion Chamber are pretty hard to come by and most are just copies of copies of copies of the tape that Darren did on his little tape recorder...

    • OK

      Thanks everyone, I'll do this.

  • Fidelity Wars or Boxing Hefner

or Breaking God's heart. The live albums are great too - Live at Maida Vale for example. We Love the city is easily my least favourite of the lot, I think, but it's still got some great songs on it.

  • you know

i listened to The Fidelity Wars on the way to work this morning and i rea;;y like it and all, but it's just a bit... ehhhh. i can deal with self pity in music but this toes the line even for me.

also, that whole "i call it home" bit in the second track is AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL and one of the most cringeworthy moments of music i've ever heard.

    • wrong

May God Protect Your Home is the best song about fingering people ever.

      • these things are all relative though.

    • Apparently...

...if Darren were going to change anything about the Fidelity Wars he'd not put that on it, fact fans.

I like it though, mind you.

    • Agreed

Totally ruined it for me for a good while. Of course, my first exposure to the song was when I was dating an obsessive Hefner fan, which didn't help matters...

  • I think my favourite is

Breaking God's Heart. Yes, it is.

  • I really like Boxing Hefner, even though it's a b-sides compilation.

Then probably The Fidelty Wars. Never really got into Dead Media, but I absolute LOVE Alan Bean and When Angels Play Their Drum Machines...

  • i got the fidelity wars last week

and i am enjoying it very much.

  • I think the best of is the best place to start

then you can decide which 'era' you like best and go with that.

  • the fidelity wars

  • FIDELITY WARS

god i love that album. so so so so so so so so much.

unfortunately it is 200 miles away from me BOOOOOOO.

  • The Fidelity Wars

but skip May God Protect Your Home and Fat Kelly's Teeth because they're crap.

    The rest is gold though.
