hey there Mr. Subjective

welcome to my kitchen.

yes

agree with PTW and after seeing Mobius Band the other day i put them forward too.

Animal Collective

Blonde Redhead
Liars

Blonde Redhead?!?!?!?!

Honestly? They'd probably be my number one example of a good band on record that's rubbish live.

I would also say

Liars, loved them live, have never been able to get that enthused about them on record.

.

the cribs

i was gonna do a thread on this actually.

isnt it funny the way you get bands that are fantastic on record and just dont deliver live.

or the band is utterly fantastic live but can never pull it off on record.

a band that manages somwhere in between is usually a rareity.

why is this???

!!!

Sooooo much

Actually one of the best live bands period! Same goes for Man Man, their albums will never capture u like the quite frankly mind blowing performances... same with Ruby Suns.

.

Rolo Tomassi?

I like them on record, but there just something about them live!

I agree

I love them live, but can't really listen to them on record, doesn't have the same effect.

Foals

I agree ^

live I thought they were brilliant, really energetic, but on record I just can't be bothered. The songs are too long and the energy is lost :(

i second crribs

fucking immense every time i see them but on record its pish

radiohead? lolz the first time i seen them every song included 10000 miles an hour bleeps n shit it seemed = goodness

65dos,muse

65 Days of Static

are always the first band I think of.

i wasnt

very keen on 65DOS when I saw them live, I was only there for the support really but I just wasn't interested during their set at all

Battles

But after seeing them live it made me like the album more.

The Music

While I still like some of their records I think they are a fucking immense live band!

bon iver

and efterklang - efterklang were so much more immense live than on record... but maybe i just need to turn the volume up way louder....?

And bon iver live is much better than the album - only when i saw him at st giles in the fields did i appreciate the hype.

The Young Knives

My girlfriend played that first record all the time and I thought it was weak. I caught them live by chance about a year ago and they rocked.

^^^Aye the young knives are another

great live band. And before they even start they don't look like guys that are about to rock.

Agree with both of these

Also:

Gogol Bordello
O' Death
Battles
Okkervil River
Final Fantasy

I'll second that

The new album's a bit hit and miss for me, but saw them last night in Newcastle and they were absolutely electric, plus the new stuff sounded outstanding. Strength In Numbers and No Weapon were absolute beasts compared to what they are on record

yes to this

They're a fucking tight band live.

Maximo Park too - always thought they were ok on record, then saw them live last year and it suddenly made sense

agree with Bon Iver

also off the top of my head ...
!!!
Blues Explosion
Monotonix
Caribou
Arcade Fire

^ yeah

i agree with Arcade Fire, they were wank when i saw them in Paris

Akron/Family

One of the best gigs i've ever been too, but just can't capture my attention for longer than 2 or 3 tracks on record

But PTW are great on record

They're killer live, but they've got at least three solid-gold sounding albums as well

Counting Crows are better live than on their records...

...mainly cos they don't have to play all the rubbish filler that pads out their albums.

I saw the Counting Crows

and i can confirm they're just as shit live as they are on record.

I always thought the Manic Street Preachers were much better live that on record, particularly early on when they were really fierce live and their records were a bit stadium rock.

The Hives

Young Knives, Editors (not a massive fan but saw them in Barfly and they were very good), Arctic Monkeys are very good live in a small venue - you can smell their energy. Lots of bands I can't be arsed to listen to on record are great live but it's all about the context innit - Art Brut are great fun live with a sweaty drink fuelled crowd.

Conversely, Spiritualised made me want to eat my own shoe out of sheer boredom when I saw them live.

I'm going to second

that comment about Spiritualized. Love them on record, live they're just tedious.

Tindersticks too

really dull live.

Metallica on the other hand were ROCK OUT AWESOME and I am not a fan of theirs particularly but I do like to say "put 'em up, put' em up" Wizard of Oz style whenever I see James Hetfield.

^^ Nah

Your wrong.

^^ Too the spiritualized haters

not tindersticks, never heard of them

they're definately wrong

Spiritualized were awesome last month

Gay For Johnny Depp

Wasn't looking forward to them at all when they supported 65dos, but they were great.

oooh, there's loads...

jamie lidell
a hawk and a hacksaw
explosions in the sky
scout niblett
dirty three

i prefer EITS and AH&AH on CD.

But then it's all subjective...

Going back to Spiritualized

First I don't hate them. I just found the live experience something of a one trick pony. The constant lapse into cacophonous noise diluted the impact. My Bloody Valentine do it so much better.

agyness deyn

sounded better on the sunday night project

blood brothers

not so keen on listening to their music on record, but they were great live!

Dananananaykroyd

I reckon i'll probably have seen them 5-6 times by the end of this year, one of my favourite live bands fo sho!

Yes

They are by faaaaaaar the best live band I know of. Although the recordings are uniformly excellent too, but just not the same somehow.

DEVO

and tons of other bands!

I think...

Muse, definitely.
oh and Horse The Band
