I don't know if they are bands - but they should be.
the new genghis tron LP is super good.
^this^
daughters are good
their first album is a bit similar to the locust.canada songs its called
Canada songs is great
but my ipod tried to play me a track today whilst on shuffle. I lasted .3 of a second before skipping it. I have a headache. It is not headache music.
They supported The Fall of Troy and were DREADFUL
I heard they (Daughters) demolished them
at virtually every show.
Wouldnt be hard. Fuck TFOT.
They did.
Mainly because they're better in just about every way.
Fear Before The March of Flames - Art Damage
Every Time I Die - Hot Damn!
Rolo Tomassi?
^this^
Behold...The Arcotopus,
Orthrelm and Psyopus might well float your boat.
^this^
certainly
well,
trencher are a bit like the locust but with less sass.
tigers! are a band from leeds who did one great 7" which is worth tracking down.
a lot of the other bands that jp from the locust was in sound like the locust. apart from the swing kids (who are better then the locust) and struggle who i think are a hardcore band.
for bands that sound like DEP get a copy of "we are the romans" by botch. then give up listening to any tech hardcore metal stuff because it's better than everything else.
we are the romans
isn't really tech is it? I mean it has it's mathmatic moments (and is brilliant), but it doesn't sound impossible to play like alot of dillinger stuff.
i know
it is fairly tech to a point - lots of time signatures, loops and tepping. mainly i didn't want to say metalcore because it makes me think of avenged sevenfold.
yeah
I do like the way they use 5 in a bar like any normal person would use 4. They really want an extra beat to shout in.
An Albatross...
...and Mass Movement Of The Moth are good bets if you like all things Locust (although MMOTM's earlier EPs are far more "spazzy" than the album).
May I second the albatross
possibly even better live than DEP and locust
Down I Go
Holy Molar
^this^
i need to give holy molar a listen
Arab On Radar?
They remind me of The Locust, although they don't actually sound that similar.
Some have been said
But these are good:
An Albatross, Daughters, The Post Office Gals, Some Girls, Holy Molar, Das Oath, Love Like... Electrocution, Loma Prieta, Trencher
got in there before me with some girls
they are awesome though
Yeh they're ace
I forgot about Melt Banana. Shall be seeing them next week!
yeah me too!
:D
you can buy me a drink
;)
nope
i think you owe me a drink. i'm not sure why. but i'm sure you do.
Some Girls
Melt Banana
Converge
Have a look at
most of the bands on Three One G Records.
burn! piano island burn!
by the blood brothers, if you haven't got that already.
and circle takes the square are good in places.
Also...
Aotea and Stand by For Action are probably worth checking out as well
again, like the last 2 bands I recomened
i think both bands have split, but theyre both still awesome
One of my favourite bands at the mo is
The Number Twelve Looks Like You.
I'd recommend the album Nuclear.Sad.Nuclear
Awesome stuff.
Also
Gay For Johnny Depp are incredible. Definitely recommend them.
i was going to say the number 12...
and GFJD are pretty rocking too
yay
=)
good call on Gay For Johnny Depp.
Bloody brilliant live as well.
You may like the following
Swing Kids
Orchid
Murder of Rosa Luxemburg
Ed Gein
Tower of Rome
Spazz
Das Oath
Charles Bronson
Orthrelm
Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower
yeh these are all awesome
i haven't heard 'judas goats and dieseleaters' yet. is it as good as 'its a shame..' because that album's amazing.
Yeah that
Ed Gein album is really good. I would try and get hold of but its loads more of a straight up grind record, that is prob why i still prefer 'Its a shame..'
Charles Bronson and Scholastic deth if we are getting into
spazzy type power violence stuff too
<3
Swing Kids
Orchid
Murder of
The Plot to blow up the eiffel tower
Not really anything like either Converge or DEP, but still awesome.
Ace recommendations thus far but also try
As The Sun Sets
Curl Up And Die
Harlots
Hella
Me and Him call it Us
Phoenix Bodies
Phoenix bodies are awesome
i'd also recommend xbxrx
Ones that haven't been said
Breather Resist
Chariots
Between the Buried and Me
The Red Chord
From A Second Story Window
Straying a little bit, but you might like them.
Lye by Mistake
Cloacal Kiss
Sawtooth Grin
Cephalic Carnage
Crowpath
Down I Go
Fuck the Facts
Intronaut
Krupskaya
Orgone - The album these guys released last year is absolutely frickin' amazing.
Crowpath!
Not listened to them guys in ages.
Old Cuts and Blunt Knives and Red on Chrome were both brilliant records.
Didnt think much of Son of Sulphur though.
agree with you on the Crowpath
records. also really like what i have heard of Cloacal Kiss and Sawtooth Grin maybe add these as well:
Executive Distraction Tasks
The Motel Bible
Oktober Skyline
Thumbscrew
Definitely Cephalic Carnage
they're a deathgrind Dillinger that write almost exclusively about weed. Awesome.
Can only properly remember the Italian cliche guitarist.
He was about 50 and a jazz drummer,
but was only in the band for the time of The Painters Palette album/subsequent tours.
Last time I saw them (Oct 06 perhaps) their new drummer was reading sheet music while playing. Never seen that before.
They opened for DEP back in 2004. Poison the Well were in the middle. That gig was amazing.
^This
"He was 50 and a jazz drummer"
Damn, I wanted to post that but you got there first.
Good band by the way.
Awesome band
The Painters Palette is one of my favourite albums.
Can't wait to see where they go with the next album which they're about to record.
CAR BOMB
Ultra Dolphins perhaps?
not really!
Ultra Dolphins are awesome!
But nothing like DEP or The Locust..
I misread DEP as DBP
and thought it referred to Dave Benson Phillips. Gungecore!
:D
With a more grindcore edge...
...the following are worth checking out:
Pig Destroyer
Discordance Axis
Tower Of Rome
Tusk (specifically their first album Get Ready. Their latest album and some of the one before are not like this at all)
Cro-Mags
not anything like them really, but im listening to them now and they are fucking awesome
Cro-Mags
Are mint, yeah...but it's embarrassing/annoying that they're the buzz band in hardcore at the moment, for everyone to name check to prove dey is ol skool!
man are you in for some sweet listening
black cobra?
like lightning bolt, if they were slightly... ermmm doomier? with vocals.
i can't explain anything, but.. yeah. FUCKING AWESOME
erm
seeing as half these bands now are nothing like The Locust (who are shit by the way) and DEP, I'll say Transistor Transistor, Norma Jean, 1000 Travels Of Jawaharlal, everything's been said
LOL
You called the Locust shit and recommended NORMA JEAN?!?
Ouch.
Most of the bands have been said already.
Das Oath
.
i'd say
black cobra fitted in with those two.
it was just an incredibly lazy description.
So no-one has mentioned Beecher then?
Eh?
Are Meshuggah close enough to count?
what do they sound like?
like
being clubbed to death by a cave-troll with a solid gold sledgehammer.
...
Best description ever.
They're much more closely related to Dillinger
than half of the stuff mentioned in this thread.
I don't think anyone's said
Agoraphobic Nosebleed yet. So 'Agoraphobic Nosebleed' I think.
Not really as metal as DEP
but Naked City are well worth a listen. I'd be very surprised if DEP and other bands of this ilk weren't influenced by them.
Also, The Boredoms.
Plot to blow up the eiffel tower
Blood Brothers
Cattle Decapitation
Holy Molar
(if they havent already been said)
Cattle Decaptitation
are immense! Their last record was amazing, although I wouldn't really count them among the legion of Converge/DEP soundalikes - they're definitely more of a pure death/grind outfit.
I read somewhere yesterday that they're releasing a new LP this year, can't wait!
XO Skeletons?
Another Wes Eisold project, bit more like Error though.
<3
I love XO Skeletons!
Pg.99
Slightly more punky but chaotic and brilliant.
I dont get why The Plot to Blow Up The Eiffel Tower have been mentioned so much. They sound nothing at all like either band.
I know they've both split
but Cutting Pink With Knives and Help She Can't Swim have a similar sound, but slightly more pop and electro than said bands
erm....
Help She Can't swim sound as much like DEP as Brian Molko sounds like Barry White. I like both bands but they are seriously nothing alike.
you took the thoughts right out of my brain
apart from the liking both bands bit. Dillinger are astoundingly good.
I'm actually asumed they thought DEP was a different band.
There has to be another band with the initials DEP.
*I actually asumed
DEP
Dogs encounter Ponies
Daisy's Ecstacy Parade
Don't Ever Panic
I don't know if they are bands - but they should be.
the new genghis tron LP is super good.

there was an amazing band called ephel duath
or something like that
like italian jazz metal
turns out theyre still going
www.myspace.com/ephelduath
they sacked two members
the remixes are less good
Im sure
I saw them supporting DEP, or someone.
They were ... entertaining.
was the drummer like 100?
he's gone now. hopefully not to the other side
He was pretty old i think
